A CHINESE JIANG GLAZED OGEE BOWL SIX CHARACTER QIANLONG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1736-95 Decorated to the exterior and interior with a warm light chocolate-brown glaze, the base glazed white and with the reign mark in underglaze blue, all raised on a slightly flared foot, 14.3cm.
TWO CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE DISHES KANGXI 1662-1722 The larger dish painted with a pheasant perched on rockwork amidst many blossoming branches, with a further pheasant and insects in flight above, the base marked with a conch shell, the smaller dish decorated with a square panel enclosing a bird perched amidst flowers, each with cartouches containing further blooms encircling the rim, 34.8cm and 20.9cm. (2) Provenance: from a deceased estate, Hampshire.
A CHINESE JADEITE BELTHOOK AND PLAQUE MOUNTED AS A HAND HELD MIRROR 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY The belthook terminating in a dragon's head, the plaque carved in shallow relief with a phoenix standing on rockwork by two large peony blooms, both attached with silvered mounts decorated with bats and an incised floral spray, the reverse set with a glass mirror, 17cm overall. Provenance: from the collection of Brigadier Gordon Richardson, DSO, OBE (1910-1998) and thence by descent. Richardson joined the 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles in India in 1931 before working as an instructor at Sandhurst between 1938 and 1940. Richardson was awarded an immediate DSO in 1944 when commanding the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Gurkha Rifles during the Italian campaign at Monte Cassino. He then received a bar to this DSO later in the same year. Afterwards, Richardson served in Greece, India, Singapore, Malaya and Hong Kong. He retired from the British Army in 1964 and then spent nine years in Nepal working for the Overseas Aid Development Corporation.

A CHINESE CLAIR-DE-LUNE GLAZED TAPERING VASE, LIUYE ZUN LATE QING DYNASTY The slender body surmounted by a cylindrical neck which rises to a flared rim, decorated to the exterior with a subtle pale blue glaze, the base with a six character Kangxi mark in underglaze blue, with paper labels for Sydney L Moss and the K W Woollcombe-Boyce Collection, 16.9cm. Provenance: from the collection of Dr Edward M Brett (d.2018), Hampstead.

Photograph Album of German Concession in Tsingtau China Circa 1900, large and ornate lacquered album with finely detailed cover in oriental form produced in bone and mother of pearl. The album holds fine quality black and white images taken by a German subject whilst stationed with the German East Asia force in China circa 1900. Many images of German military in colonial uniform, images of German’s with Chinese leaders / officials in traditional clothing, various Chinese street scenes, villages, monuments, Tsingtao train station, Chinese temples, rural country scenes, executions and capital punishment etc. An interesting image of Imperial Russian? Sailors who have had legs amputated on board ship. Some very interesting images with all remaining clear. Some with inked details of the place or subject underneath. The album exterior shows some wear but generally still a very good example. 86 images in total, most images measure 14 ¾ x 11 ¼ cms, some larger.

Important Photographic Record in Three Photograph Albums of Pathe News Photographer in China 1921, France & South Africa c.1910 etc. Believed to be A.A.Simon whose task was to set up a Film Laboratory in Peking. Interesting images throughout with captions in French, including view from the Grand Hotel over Peking (1922), street carts, Station and train,Peking. Military band and parades with Marshal Joffre and his staff in attendance, while Chinese look on, Pathe Office with "Pathe-Orient" sign displayed, staff with camera etc. Also Shanghai, Chinese camera "aide", street scenes, Soochow,, Westerners celebrating, "Ecole Municipal franco-chinese" marching past, etc. Another Album which dates from c.1910 has excellent Chinese harbour scenes and junks, even a flying boat with camera visible. Also scenes, possible for a film, in South Africa "Defending the Krall". Three contemporary Albums with c. 200 images, various sizes, very clear and most captioned.
Pre-WW1 German East Asia Squadron Photograph Album Covering Service in China and Japan etc, nice album compiled by a German sailor serving with the East Asia squadron prior to WW1, the photographs and postcards are all housed in a Japanese lacquered photograph album. The album folds out and begins with mostly coloured postcards of Japanese interest. The album soon moves on to his service in China, good images of Chinese prisoners, executions, Chinese soldiers which were trained by the Germans. Good scenes of Peking, Shanghai, Shanghai harbour, Taku Forts, etc. Many of the images are annotated below. (62 images and cards)
