A pair of French patinated bronze models of rearing horses in the manner of models by Francesco Fanelli (Italian, 1577-after 1641) raised on gilt bronze basesprobably late 18th or early 19th centurythe rearing beasts with open mouths and curling manes, each with an elaborate strapwork cast tasselled saddle cloth, the rectangular swept plinth bases with hatched panelled decoration within foliate and ovolo, gadrooned and acanthus borders, raised on bun feet, the horses, 22cm high, overall 39.5cm high, 33cm deep, 55cm wide (2)Footnotes:ProvenanceChristies Le Bois Muralt: The Collection Of A European Noble Family, 19 January 2000, lot 660 The rearing horse models of the present lot are raised on bases which originally appear to have been mounted as fireplace chenet.
