To include: a post WW2 Grenandier Guards brass bed plate, named ot '22213098 Brassington' (made by J R Gaunt), a WW1 period POW interest maroon leather cigarette case of German origin, marked 'Weihnachten 1911' which translates as Christmas Day 1911. The wallet contains unused cigarettes and a German POW letter, written to an address in Merseburg, Germany. Plus, 2 pairs of circa WW2 era motorcycle / flying style googles.
A WW1 British War Medal, named to 93586 2.A.M. A.E.Valiant of the RAF. Plus, a later gilt metal combined cigarette lighter and case, initialled ‘BN’ to the front. Notes: Air Mechanic 2nd Class Albert Edward Valliant was aged 38 at the time of his enlistment in the RAF, on August 24th 1917. He was a native of Leiston in Suffolk. His full medal entitlement is unknown, and there doesn’t appear to a medal index card available for him. Condition: generally good. The gilt metal cigarette case shows some wear to the finish.
A Boer War era ‘Gentleman in Kharki’ sterling silver cigarette case. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1899, with the makers mark for W.H.Tandy & Sons. Nicely engraved to the front with the classic Gentleman in Kharki, a winded British soldier standing defiant with his Lee Metford rifle. The original picture was by Richard Caton Woodville, and often accompanied the Rudyard Kipling poem, ‘The Absent-Minded Begger’. The reverse has an inscription to a ‘Jack Coghlan’ and was a seemingly given to him as a memento ‘from a few friends on his departure to the front 2nd Feb 1900’. It’s unknown exactly who Jack Coghlan was, but according to contemporary documents there were several Jack Coghlan’s that it could relate to. Approximately 8.2cm x 6.2cm - weight 59.5g. Condition: some very shallow dents, mostly to the front side. Good hinge and clasp, plus good clear hallmarks.
