The Holford Collection - four volumes:'The Holford Collection - Dorchester House - in two volumes with 200 illustrations' (Oxford University Press 1927). Both volumes signed and numbered 377 of 400 by the editor, Robert Benson);'The Holford Collection - Westonbirt - Illustrated with 101 plates' (Oxford University Press 1924) signed and numbered 138 of 300 by the editor, Robert Benson;'The Holford Collection - Westonbirt - A catalogue of 12 illuminated manuscripts and 107 pictures' (The Medici Society 1924).The Holford Collection was, with the Hertford Collection, one of the two greatest British art collections of the 19th century. It was amassed by Robert Holford (1808-1892) and divided between his seat, Westonbirt in Gloucestershire, and his London home, Dorchester House in Park Lane. His son and heir, Sir George Holford (1860-1926), in association with the Burlington Fine Arts Club catalogued the Westonbirt Collection in 1924. Sir George died in 1926 and the Dorchester House catalogue published by his executors in the following year. The Holford Collection was sold in three record-breaking sales by Christies in 1927 and 1928. Also included with the lot is a handwritten record of the sales' results (the July 15th 1927 sale complete with buyers' names).
