A Set of Six English Porcelain Armorial Dinner Plates, probably Coalport, circa 1830, painted with the crest of a greyhound seizing a hare over a ribbon inscribed with the motto GRATA SUME MANU for the Brisco family within a claret border with foliate panels highlighted in gilt and gadrooned rim27cm diameterIt would seem that the Brisco family arrived in England at the time of the Norman Conquest when a company of lancers from Brisgau in Swabia accompanied William during the Conquest. The family later had holdings in Wigton in Cumberland, St Kitts and MarylandOne with a small rim chip. Another with a hair crack. No other damage and free from repair. Some scratches to the ground colours and other typical wear. Some very tight and feint glaze crazing. Unmarked.

An early nineteenth century hand-painted porcelain part tea service, possibly Coalport, c. 1805. Comprising of: six London-shape cups and saucers, six coffee cans and bute-shape saucers, a waste bowl, six tea plates and six dished plates. It is decorated with a wood grain effect with gilded rims. One can has a painted leaf detail to the underside. Dished plates: 22 cm wide. (25)Condition: very minor gilding wear, one can and one plate have a tiny foot chip.
