Richenda Court Julia's Gaze Linocut on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Richenda's work is figurative, lyrical and dreamlike, forged through line drawing and mark-making. For her the process of drawing becomes a method of thinking through ideas - drawn spontaneously, her imagined visions bring to the surface subconscious thoughts and feelings, revealing new truths about the world she experiences. Many of the prints begin as a line drawing from memory. Great attention is given to gestures of the hands, positions of the figure are all inspired by her training in dance. The prints are then carefully composed and reworked to invoke the associations she has drawn her inspirations from, finally producing a composition which balances both the image and the story behind the image. As well as prints Richenda has created 'Ocean Swell' a lithographic produced book of line drawings and 'Glass Town' an animation film. Richenda was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painters and Printmakers in 2021 based at Bankside gallery. Education Richenda graduated from Brighton Polytechnic in Expressive Arts, Fine Art and Contemporary Dance, completed a post graduate at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and studied many years under master printmakers Richard Michell and Frank Connolly at Morley College. Select Exhibitions/Awards Exhibitions include Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Society of British Arts at The Mall Galleries, London Original Print Fair, Somerset House and Henry Sotherans Ltd. Prizes include Stuart Southall Printmaking Prize at Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition and For Arts Sake Prize in 2022 at the RE Summer Exhibition, Bankside Gallery. Henry Glover Softer Side, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About I am an oil painter and ceramicist. I focus on the interplay between the physical sensations of my materials and the raw emotions I experience in my daily life and personal relationships. I am concerned with shared feelings of introspection that have arisen in recent years and proven to catalyse the impacts of rumination and loneliness on the soul. I draw upon the early Mediaeval period, Antiquity, Folklore and Myths in providing subject matter steeped in history, and drama, transforming it into our contemporary every day. I find a freedom of expression by utilising iconography and maintaining my own motifs with a rich background in often Romantic and aggrandised contexts. Education Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL) - BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting Oxford Brookes - Art and Design Foundation Select Exhibitions/Awards Solo Exhibitions: THE KNIGHT'S TOUR, Grove Berlin, Berlin, 9th - 23rd September 2022 TAKE ME SOMEWHERE NICE, Liliya Art Gallery, London, March 22nd - April 18th 2021 Selected Group Shows: CHECKMATE, OHSH Projects, London,11th May - 11th June 2023 I MASCHI, C.G.Williams, Siena, 5th - 21st March 2023 Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I have submitted three works that relate to emotions encapsulated in simple symbols, be it a heart or a forest. Each has been painted in a way that embraces the drama and hangs on straddling the surreal and every day. I enjoy focusing on this place visually in between genres and playing up the voice of the works titles simultaneously. Snapshots of raw feelings are elevated with extreme colours and fantastical elements hopefully capturing the expressions in an honest way. Robin Kandel It Was Unlike As If We'd Been, 2023 Graphite on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Born in Detroit, Michigan, I have an early memory, at age five or six, of gazing at a Franz Kline painting in the Detroit Institute of Arts and, to the amusement of two adults behind me, explaining Kline's heavy, black, mark-making to my older sister. Seeing that Franz Kline painting and, on exhibit nearby, a massive, black, room-like sculpture by Louis Nevelson, might just account for the trajectory of my life in art. Louis Blondiau In The Woods, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About I am a landscape painter. I try to create paintings that facilitate emotional intimacy and a reconnection with nature. Looking at forests and oceans can provide us with a sense of connection to something beyond ourselves, a feeling of the vastness of the world and our place within it. I use a scratching technique that mix oil and etching approaches. I avoid using colour in my work. I feel that sometimes colour can be distracting and can impeach the viewer to focus on the movement and forms suggested by the many fine scratches on the canvas. I lived in London from 2003 to 2019 and moved to the Netherlands in 2020. Education Louis Blondiau is mostly a self-taught artist. Yet he studied as a non-enrolled student at the at Brussels Visual Art School La Cambre School (Belgium) in 1989 and later at Art Academy of Braine l'Alleud in 1999 - 2001, Belgium. Select Exhibitions/Awards Louis exhibited in Galleries in London (Hicks Gallery, Cavaliero Finn Gallery, Gagliardy Gallery), in Brussels (Arthus Gallery, Galerie Chapitre 12) and in Amsterdam (Mokum Gallery). In 2014 two paintings of Louis were selected for an exhibition of the Dulwich Picture Gallery (London) and shortlisted for a prize. In 2018, the London County House commissioned two large paintings currently on permanent show. In 2023 one painting was selected for the Royal Art Academy summer show. The paintings of Louis are in several private collections. Gallery Representation Galerie Mokum, Amsterdam; Aperture Contemporary, Brussels Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The four small paintings submitted are made with oil on paper (I usually work on larger formats with oil on hard board). They all represent a figure surrounded by nature. The border between nature and the figure are blurred and the nature seems to interplay with the figure. My paintings question the conventional dichotomy of subject and object, inviting viewers to reconsider the interplay between inner realms and the external world, to experience a dissolution of these binaries, and to encourage a reflection on the interconnectedness of all existence. Jon Burgerman Shiv Ink and Crayon on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Frankie Shea About Jon Burgerman (b. 1979 UK) is a New York-based British artist whose works have been acquired by prestigious public collections such as London's Victoria and Albert Museum and the OÖ-Kultur Museum in Linz, Austria. His art has been described by critics as "bright, and intuitive, focused on the visceral energy of play as a tenet of communication" (Cate McQuaid, The Boston Globe, July 2021). Jon's highly distinctive fuzzy-edged characters in day-glo bright pinks, yellows, greens and blues epitomise the paradoxes of contemporary life. Their seemingly simple googly eyes betray a range of emotional complexities and anxieties, with comically distressed expressions and collapsing forms underlined by titles such as Xanax, Dualist, Fortitude and Chameleon (2022). At once friendly and scary, happy and sad, Jon achieves a form of emotional Cubism that relates directly to "a generational mental health crisis, [exacerbated] by climate anxiety, the pandemic, the narrowing of political choice and financial insecurity. And yet, there is always an elastic resilience, a wry smile, joy in the process and chance of hope" (Jon Burgerman personal statement 2022). Each of Jon's paintings reveals a studied balance of contrasts: hazy, indistinct huddles and isolated, lonely forms; crude graffitied marks versus fluid, soft forms achieved with an aerosol can. Improvised rhythms informed by electronic music permeate his works, creating staccato visual melodies that allow each work to perform satisfactorily to both eye and ear in a continuum of Miró and Kandinsky. Jon has developed a new visual language all of his own, painting with a hitherto unknown simplicity and captivating optimism that allows his subjects to establish a remarkable immediacy and intimacy with his viewers, in the same vein Keith Haring mastered. "I want to make expressive and open works, where the viewer can not only play with narrative strands suggested by the characters and forms but also emotionally connect with the textures, colours and very fabric of the painting itself." Jon Burgerman, 2023. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork "The Night-Wanderer expresses the longing to return to the place where I grew up, the bitter, salty wind smell of the sea, an imaginary return to the North-Sea of my childhood. This print is set in between the Lighthouse and the Kurhuis in Scheveningen, a make-believe place where I would wander in the night, looking for something, anything away from the restrictions of reality. The Kurhuis and the lighthouse are in fact not that close together, but both buildings are a signifier of place for me, the lighthouse whose light sweeps were visible through the curtains of our childhood bedroom and the Kurhuis, the 'palace' at the boulevard, a place of great magic, opulence, lights and music, a famous landmark." Abigail Hampsey Cheek to cheek, 2023 Coloured pencils on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Abigail Hampsey is a British painter and a co-founder of the artist led project Minutes_on. Abigail completed her BA in Fine Art at Newcastle University in 2019 and has recently completed her MA from the Royal College of art (2022). In this time her work has been exhibited at the Holden Gallery and workplace gallery to name but a few. Abigail has also spent time at the British school at Rome being awarded the Foreshaw Foundation Residency and was also the recipient of The Basil H.Alkazzi Scholarship Award at the Royal College of Art. Abigail is also an academic and tutor at Newcastle University where she teaches and a member of the painting collective Contemporary British Painting. Interested in the notion of truth, trickery, the real and the fake, Abigail's work acts like that of the vaudeville stage. Characters, locations and mediums change from scene to scene creating layers of narrative that reflect not only the source of the imagery but also the decision-making process of painting itself. Abigail creates images drawing on her own experiences and memory, as well as art historical and literary sources. She seeks to create her own stories in a new type of narrative painting. With a particular interest in myth and folklore from the North West of England, Abigail's affiliation to place and home plays a strong role in the construction of her work. In turn, the images tell stories that may be neither true nor accurate, but that reflect a personal yet often archetypal narrative. (Nov 22-July23) Exploring for the first time the land of her memories hoping to find her "Home" now within it. "House luck is the luck we bring into the home. The luck we can create, the luck we can wish for and the luck others can give. It is mystical and non-verbal. It's a lottery and not a given. It's an exploration into the desire to have one's own space, place or home. In its simplest form its safe and dry. It doesn't always physically exist. its coins under the corners of your carpet or thrown through the door on new years day. Often times we gaze at others, imagining what ours could be. Its Piranesi in appearance and ever expanding upon our land, yet tricky to possess entirely. It's the luck of the house at the loss of the land. A conversation to start with no end as old as standing strait. An initial scratch of a larger itch, since arriving "Home" that one can't help but latch." Salvatore Fiorello Roadside Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Salvatore's work deals with perceptions of time, memory, and place. He makes paintings that depict often overlooked sections of suburbia, edgelands, and semi-rural landscapes. Laura Hope Eye Spy III, 2023 Mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About My work is centred around unspoken emotions and quiet inner lives. Created from my own staged photographs of models, it is often a response to memories, relationships and personal crisis. Through composition, cropping and reversing the image, I strive to convey an uneasy narrative that shines a light on subtle feelings that often hide in the shadows. With hints to another era, my figures live in a world that is both nostalgic and present. I sit on the fence between painting and drawing - feeling that 'painting' better describes my process but knowing that 'drawing' is my method of creation. My training as an illustrator as well as my time working as a memorial artist (hand etching onto granite) have cemented the importance of line and mark making in my practice. A combination of thick, harsh scribbles and precise, light touches alongside a unique translation of colour are the voices used to tell my stories. Isabella Lolita Amram Bad Hologram Oil and oil pastel on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Isabella Lolita Amram is a Turkish and Venezuelan artist living in London. Isabella ritualistically combines astrological chart analysis and tarot card divination in relation to the places, people, and events that inspire her, with paint. Her paintings can best be described as cosmological landscapes and portraits that capture the world through a lens of occult knowledge. Further to that, she not only conceptually and experientially investigates, but also "processually" embodies and performs her research on tarot- and astrology-centric symbolic and archetypal storytelling through a gestural, circular, and textured manner of layering paint, using the materials as an extension her body. On the one hand Isabella's practice is built on a foundation of conceptual research on esoteric meaning-creating symbols based on astrology and tarot. On the other, it emphasises approaching the occult by dropping out of analysis and storytelling into "mystery," which she does through practices like automatic drawing and using her body as a vessel rather than a tool of conscious material manipulation. The intention behind this seemingly dualistic foundation is to bridge the gap between body and cosmos, material and meaning, the unknown and knowledge, something and no-thing, and the observed and imagined, through the use of the physical and tactile properties of paint, surface and colour. As such, Isabella touches upon moments of individuation and transformation - both personally and collectively. Furthermore, through her work, Isabella aims to open the door to conversations about the relationship between space and time, the unknown that exists beyond storytelling, contemporary attitudes on mysticism, as well as age-old discussions on consciousness, free will, and the cyclically patterned nature of history. The crux of Isabella's oeuvre is the fleeting and transformative process that goes on in her studio, while the works displayed are heirlooms from these voyages throughout space and time. The intention behind this foundation is to bridge the gap between body and cosmos, material and meaning, mystery and knowledge, something and no-thing, and the observed and imagined, through the use of the physical and tactile properties of paint, surface and colour. As such, Isabella touches upon moments of individuation and transformation - both personally and collectively. Isabella not only conceptually investigates, but also "processually" embodies and performs her research on tarot and astrology-centric symbolic and archetypal storytelling through a gestural, circular, and textured manner of weaving materials. Ritualistically combining astrological charts and tarot divination with paint, her works can best be described as cosmological landscapes and portraits of events and people informed by divination. Analysing moments of significance through the lens of such occult tools and transcribing them onto surfaces opens the door to conversations about the relationship between space and time, the unknown that exists beyond storytelling, contemporary attitudes on the esoteric, as well as age-old discussions on consciousness, free will, and the cyclically patterned nature of history. Nick Walker 369 (1-4) Stencil and spraypaint on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Frankie Shea About Nick Walker is one of the world's best known street artists. Born in 1969, he emerged from the infamous and ground-breaking Bristol graffiti scene of the early 1980s. As a forerunner of the British graffiti phenomenon, Nick's work has become a blueprint for hundreds of emerging artists. His work is constantly evolving and remains innovative, modern and thought-provoking. Nick draws on the energy and imagery of graffiti but he succeeds in combining the freedom the spray can brings, with very controlled and intricate stenciling. The results are highly sophisticated and infinitely desirable. The methods he uses retain their forcefulness and integrity on the traditional medium of canvas. Nick Walker's instantly recognisable style and humour have gain ed him a worldwide following. In 2008 Nick had sellout shows in LA and London, where collectors queued for over 24 hours to be among the first to get his latest print edition. In 2008, his iconic Moona Lisa sold over ten times its estimated value at auction at Bonhams. Over the years Nick's work has been accoladed by the media and has attracted headlines worldwide, including the front page of the Independent arts magazine and the Observer's round up of the year's biggest events of 2008. Richenda Court Birdy Linocut on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Richenda's work is figurative, lyrical and dreamlike, forged through line drawing and mark-making. This lot has been curated by Katherine Kittoe About Born in 1965, Birmingham, United Kingdom, Hurvin Anderson lives and works between London and Cambridgeshire. After studying painting at Maidstone College of Art in the 1970s, Richard embarked on a career that has seen him edition work for a number of leading contemporary artists including David Hockney, Robert Ryman and Jasper Johns among others. Harriet Porter Little Blessing Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Harriet Porter is a London-based artist specialising in still-life oil painting, making quiet monochromatic works of solitary reflective objects. "I paint from observation, concerned with finding patterns of tone within the whole scene, focusing on the glints of light set off by shapes of shadow. I use layers of translucent glaze to build up the feeling of luminosity. The space I create is a world where nothing bad ever happens: a sparse dreamy place filled with a still, tranquil glow". Harriet's preoccupation is informed by her previous career as an art director and stylist. Working in film and photography, she found the camera increasingly frustrating. As a capturing device it became insufficient to describe the wonder with which she perceived the shimmer that constantly caught her eye. She found that painting achieved more accurate results, bypassing unwelcome photographic detail. Matthew Eguavoen Womanhood Acrylic on cartridge paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Matthew Imuetiyan Eguavoen (b.1988, Edo State) lives and works in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. Matthew Eguavoen is a contemporary artist with a singular style. Far more expressive than the traditional portrait, the Lagos-based artist uses color and composition to raise questions about gender, race and history, particularly linked to Nigeria and Africa. In his portraits, Matthew uses a combination of oil paint, acrylic paint, charcoal, and graphite pencils to document stories that encompass the emotions and demeanor of his muse to the viewer of his work. He depicts the vulnerability and openness associated with expressing the feelings of love, as well as the apprehension of protecting one's self from heart break and ulterior motives. His work addresses the lack of awareness on mental health, especially depression. Due to the stigma associated with mental health, conversations about depression are not often had, hence information, and resources required to deal with depression are sparse and the effect of societal pressures and timelines seton youths to achieve certain goals by a specific age (marriage, financial goals, family responsibilities). Eguavoen, wants to give voice to the impact of Slavery in Africa and its people. The extinction of African traditional values and the growing sensation of religion in Africa, importation of western moral and cultural values. He attended the University of Port Harcourt, where he obtained a Bachelors in Science for Civil Engineering and Structures. In his final year at the university, Matthew decided to pursue his passion for creating art through self-study, where he continued his artistic development. Matthew didn't start painting till he was 25 years. Matthew ́s works are featured in collections across West Africa, USA, Europe, and North America. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork 1. Womanhood "In a world where gender roles are constantly in flux and in one that increasingly understands gender and biological sex as two distinct realms, I often find myself wondering about the nature of womanhood. What does it mean to be a woman? We no longer make sense of what it means to be a woman through a set of physical characteristics or personality traits, nor through fixed societal roles. But if being a woman is not determined by these dimensions, is there some other element that is shared by all women?" 2. More like family This piece was created to acknowledge people in my life who have supported and nourished me mentally and emotionally, most especially in my career, and have continually my back one without asking for their act of kindness to be repaid. 3. Sadiq Sadiq is a Social Media friend whom I respect because of how he has continually lived his life without being confined to societal standards. He has continued to be expressional, most especially with issue in relation to gender, and i have used this piece to represent that part of him. Gallery Representation Brooke Benington (London) Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Katie Tomlinson's paintings reflect on the united experiences of women and focus on the intricate dynamics of human connections. Ideas surrounding power structures and vulnerability; nuances of consent, exchange, and desire; heteronormativity and performative femininity; and the politicisation of intimacy recur throughout her practice. Using vivid colour, playful and surreal motifs, absurdity, symbolism, and varying applications of paint, the works are imbued with tension, concealed messages, and fluctuating tempos. Katie's paintings serve as both an exploration into the medium and the figures in which inhabit the frame. These figures demand further exploration, inviting questions about their identities, actions, motivations, and relationships with one another. Katie's paintings overtly reference moments throughout the canon of Western, patriarchal, art history. She reconsiders, reconfigures, and reclaims specific moments from Painting's problematic past. Harbouring this as a tool to enhance, develop, and reinforce her paintings' contemporary social themes within a post-MeToo era. Lucas Price Dream Weapon 1 Pigment print on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Frankie Shea About Contemporary artist Lucas Price, formerly known as Cyclops, blends the traditional and the modern, merging contemporary photorealism with antiquated styles and religious iconography. Lucas completed a Master's degree at the Royal College of Art, London. In 2008, he exhibited at the Tate Modern as part of their exhibition 'Art on the Street' and, in 2015, appeared in Bonhams' contemporary auction. Fascinated by the coexistence of beauty and decay, Price's work combines the stillness and harmony of photorealist imagery, with the chaos and commotion of urban life, to create an aesthetic which is mournful and modern. His work brings together image and text, to explore the relationship between language and visual culture, and the power of art as a fundamental tool of communication. His photorealist series 'Way of All Flesh', which previewed in November 2013 at The Outsiders, London, combines Baroque imagery with street art motifs, to contemplates the role of the art institution and its relationship to commodity cultures in the twenty-first century. I think about the quiet beauty in the everyday, particularly in the natural commonplace things, rarely celebrated. My paintings are inspired by what I see around me: the form of a tree; the long lines of twining stems; the intricacies of birds in flight. Often I am reminded of a poem or a piece of music and revisit an idea resonating there. Before the layers of gesso, I draw in charcoal or acrylic and the subsequent gilding or linseed oil shine in contrast. I paint in oil from my photographs, tracing the lines loosely with a fine square ended brush, observing the tonal shifts, and the marks build up the complicated patterns of the whole. Using traditional materials, my work draws attention to these fleeting moments and underscores their value." Gallery Representation Ovcharenko; Stanislas Bourgain; PlinthUK Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork At first glance, the works in this series may appear as geometric abstractions comprised of colour fields. However, upon closer examination, one can discern that the individual elements coalesce into a figurative image, portraying the various facets of an artwork's existence within a space. This could be represented as a white canvas hanging on a wall, an empty video screen, or even as an installation within a contemporary gallery exhibition. Sarah Wood Admiration (AOP), 2023 Oil on Sized Paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Sarah grew up in Yorkshire, close to the city of Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales. Since graduating from Wimbledon School of Art, London, Sarah has maintained a professional practice, occupying various studios across London, and now settled in Space Studios, Peckham, London. Following a successful exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery in Cornwall, curated by Cath Wallace, Sarah's work has been shown and sold through Quantum Contemporary Art, London at art fairs around the world. For many years Sarah has immersed herself in the painting of pears and continues to develop her skills and contemporary style, whilst also applying the same concentration to a series of small flower paintings. The genre of still life painting and particularly painting pears, has dominated Sarah's practice for some time. Looking at the paintings of Cezanne and Morandi, or the more elaborate Dutch still life painters, she has become fascinated by how the depiction of simple everyday objects can convey something more than the things seen. Pam Glew Pimms O'Clock Graphite, Acrylic and collage on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Frankie Shea About Pam Glew, born in 1978, is a Brighton based artist best known for her distinctive paintings on fabric. Collage, sewing paper, flags and textiles are used to explore and question how identity is constructed by the places we inhabit. Paint, inks and pigment are applied to found fabric adhered to panels, often incorporating contemporary and vintage Japanese prints, vintage denim and heirloom textiles. The use of textiles and dress making pattern; washing, dyeing and sewing cloth are a nod to the scarcity of women artists documented in the history of art. The artist has shown internationally in 7 major solo shows and over 100 group exhibitions, alongside such artists as Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Peter Blake. She has exhibited at Dallas Contemporary and Honolulu Museum of Art and has been shown at major art fairs in London, New York, Miami and Seoul. Tomas Harker Drosophila Oil on canvas Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Ell Pennick About Tomas Harker's works address the nature of meaning in conditions of mediated experience and hyperreal saturation. Over the last several years, the artist's practice has increasingly blurred the lines between fairytale and reality, often by subtly manipulating notions of the uncanny. The mythologies leaking into his recent works are not simply an exploration of fantasy, however; rather, they act as a point of entry to the abstract network of thoughts through which they come into being, suggesting that a real-world circumstance is not quite what it seems. Existing on the fringes of popular culture, Tomas's practice often draws from a variety of image production and distribution systems in an attempt to make sense of a cosmic order becoming increasingly disordered. His paintings reflect the increasing murkiness and confusion of contemporary life, whilst remaining mindful of the dynamics of power benefiting from uncertainty. In spite of their relationship to complex, significant systemic and social issues, Tomas's work manages to retain a lightness of touch, a sense of irreverence, through the inclusion of mythical aesthetics. Unlike magical realism, however, his paintings act as thought experiments - providing the viewer with material by which interpretative systems can be created. They insist that we move beyond defined aesthetic language and into a mode of thinking capable of establishing connections between disparate chunks of metaphor, reference and symbolism as a means of better understanding the physical sensations capable of dominating experience, opinion and existence. Tomas's works therefore venture into a new realm, where representations of the unreal are presented as symbols, or emissaries, of alternate understandings. Some I select because they hold a personal significance, others I collect which have an unknown history, and I paint them directly from life. For my three Art on a Postcard submissions, I have painted objects which were found, or around me in the studio, or which I saw on the way to the studio. The three feathers were treasured finds on a recent family holiday in South Wales - I can never leave a beach without filling my pockets with feathers, shells etc etc! The tape measure has been a trusty companion in my studio for a long time and being bright orange is always easily found! Sophie Vallance Cantor Tiger Collage, 2023 Oil and collage on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Ell Pennick About Throughout her practice, Sophie Vallance Cantor creates worlds that express the inner workings of her mind by blurring the line between reality and imagination. Her paintings offer a unique perspective as they invite viewers to see the world through her eyes: where bright neon signs light up dark alleyways and domestic cats transform into wild beasts in 24 hour bars and cafés. Each painting reads like a still from a film; characters look at the viewer with a sense of cool detachment as they ride motorcycles down an infinite highway or smoke cigarettes and blow smoke while nursing a cocktail. Amidst the narrative of her paintings there often lies a sense of stillness, with each small moment immortalised and savoured through thick, luscious strokes of oil paint that exude a palpable sense of joy and pleasure in the creation process. Sophie's figures are depicted with strong, bold shapes and her use of vivid colours invites the viewer to relish in the pleasures of her practice. There is a certain sense of playfulness and mischievous delight that permeates all of Sophie's work. In a broader context, Sophie's art serves as a counterbalance to her experiences as a neurodivergent individual, with her self-portraits constantly evolving and conversing with each other on the canvas. Although viewers are welcomed into her world, they are still kept at arm's length, like outsiders looking in on a private moment. Alison Jackson Diana Gives The Finger Giclée hahnemühle pearl Signed on Verso & Recto 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Alison Jackson, a contemporary, BAFTA and multi award-winning artist, photographer and filmmaker explores the cult of celebrity - an extraordinary phenomenon manufactured by the media, publicity industries and the public figures themselves. To raise questions about this, Alison creates celebrity 'news' that appears real and plausible but isn't. She creates convincingly realistic work portraying the imagined private lives of public figures using cleverly styled lookalikes. Resemblance becomes real, and fantasy touches on the plausible. Alison creates scenes that the public have all imagined but never seen. It's an exploration of our insatiable desire to get personal with public personalities, raising questions about the power and seductive nature of imagery which incites voyeurism and our need to believe - Alison challenges our preconceptions. Alison takes portraits of (real!) famous actors, politicians and celebrities, collected by Museum collections, such as at the National Portrait Gallery, The Parliamentary Art Collection in London and SF MOMA, San Francisco amongst many others. In 2019 Alison founded and launched the photography initiative to include photography workshops, programs, competition and exhibition of A Day in Your Life/Young Artists to cultivate, nurture and celebrate the future creatives of tomorrow from under - represented, lower socio-economic, minority backgrounds, and people living with disabilities. Laura Jane Scott Necessary Limits (Mini) 2 Greyboard, interior paint Signed on Verso 11.1 x 15.2 x 0.8cm (4¼ x 5 x ¼ in.) This lot has been curated by Katherine Kittoe About Laura Jane Scott is an artist working in minimalist, geometric abstraction and colour-field painting. Her desire for formal simplicity through geometric form and her striking use of colour enables her to produce work where painting explores a model of architectural form and where colour embodies a physical structure. The resulting work is a refined visual vocabulary of form and colour. "My aim is always to express an idea as simply and as elegantly as possible. To strip everything back to only what is necessary to communicate that idea. My work is primarily an exploration of balance, of positive and negative space, of presence and absence." Education Laura studied at Camberwell College of Arts and Ravensbourne University London. Select Exhibitions/Awards Laura's work has been exhibited widely over the past seven years in London, Edinburgh, New York and Hamburg and has featured twice in the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Gallery Representation Laura is represented by Kittoe Contemporary in London and frequently shows work with &Gallery in Edinburgh. She also sells work independently and accepts commissions for large scale installations. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Laura has submitted two works to Art on a Postcard Winter 2023. The first is a miniature of her relief series 'Necessary Limits' which explores colour, balance and form within the confines of some self-imposed boundaries. The second piece 'Considered' is a minimalist painting of saturated, clean-edged shapes using colours from Laura's signature palette and the component shapes that often appear in her work. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.
Isabella Lolita Amram Forgotten Shadows Oil and oil pastel on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Isabella Lolita Amram is a Turkish and Venezuelan artist living in London. Education BA from Brown University Foundation Degree in Fine Art from UAL Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from UAL (ongoing) Select Exhibitions/Awards 'There, Yet' group exhibition at The Department Store Brixton, London, UK Pop-up group exhibition at Standpoint Gallery, London, UK 'Intuition Goes Before You' group show, 13 Soho Square, London, UK 'ONE Akaretler' group show by Bilgili Holding and shopigo art platform, Istanbul, Turkey Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Isabella Lolita Amram's practice is built on a foundation of radical processual embodiment - a durational way of painting as felt and experienced by the body, on the one hand, and research on ancient and esoteric meaning-creating symbols based on astrology and tarot, on the other. Tomas Harker Drosophila Hydei, 2023 Oil on canvas Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Ell Pennick About Tomas Harker's works address the nature of meaning in conditions of mediated experience and hyperreal saturation.
