Gertie Young RWS Air Berlin Collage, gouache and pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Gertie was born in Nottingham and moved to London in 1968 to study at Hornsey School of Art. Over the years she continued to paint, filling sketchbooks and always searching for her own visual language. She takes her subjects from surrounding life - holidays, household objects, walking or gardening. Gertie has firmly established her position as an artist in the UK, having participated in a variety of National competitions and exhibitions such as: the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, the National Open Art competition, the RWS' Contemporary Watercolour Competition, the Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition, the Sunday Times Watercolour competition, the New English Art Club exhibition, the Royal Society of British Artists exhibition, the Royal Institute of painters in watercolour exhibition and the Royal Watercolour Society where, after becoming a member she also became the society treasurer. Her paintings can be found in private collections in the USA, Oman, Germany, France and Spain as well as here in the UK. Each of Gertie's paintings is like a little journey that makes its way out into the unknown. The images that arise are based on a mixture of observation, emotional memory and imagination. Ultimately her pieces often deal with the meeting of opposites: whether near or far, natural or man-made, mundane or celestial, personal or global. Fairy stories, poems, dreams, imaginary or real objects and places provide her with a constant stream of ideas. Gertie spends most of her time pushing back reality. Education Hornsey Art College Select Exhibitions/Awards Memberships include: Member of the Royal Watercolour Society Awards include: Contemporary watercolour competition Seawhite award winner, National Open Art competition winner, Sunday Times watercolour competition winner, Julian Barrow award Exhibitions include: Chelsea Art society, Royal Institute of painters in watercolour, New English Art Club, Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries, RA Summer Exhibition Gallery Representation Bankside Gallery, London Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork My pieces often deal with the conjunction of opposites; whether near or far, natural or man-made, mundane or celestial. Henry Glover Giving my all to you, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About I am an oil painter and ceramicist. I focus on the interplay between the physical sensations of my materials and the raw emotions I experience in my daily life and personal relationships. I am concerned with shared feelings of introspection that have arisen in recent years and proven to catalyse the impacts of rumination and loneliness on the soul. I draw upon the early Mediaeval period, Antiquity, Folklore and Myths in providing subject matter steeped in history, and drama, transforming it into our contemporary every day. I find a freedom of expression by utilising iconography and maintaining my own motifs with a rich background in often Romantic and aggrandised contexts. Education Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL) - BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting Oxford Brookes - Art and Design Foundation Select Exhibitions/Awards Solo Exhibitions: THE KNIGHT'S TOUR, Grove Berlin, Berlin, 9th - 23rd September 2022 TAKE ME SOMEWHERE NICE, Liliya Art Gallery, London, March 22nd - April 18th 2021 Selected Group Shows: CHECKMATE, OHSH Projects, London,11th May - 11th June 2023 I MASCHI, C.G.Williams, Siena, 5th - 21st March 2023 Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I have submitted three works that relate to emotions encapsulated in simple symbols, be it a heart or a forest. Each has been painted in a way that embraces the drama and hangs on straddling the surreal and every day. I enjoy focusing on this place visually in between genres and playing up the voice of the works titles simultaneously. Snapshots of raw feelings are elevated with extreme colours and fantastical elements hopefully capturing the expressions in an honest way. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Olivia Adamczyk O'Sullivan Looking For Hadrian's Wall Gouache on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Olivia lives in Southeast London. Her work has two main focuses: the industrial buildings, blocks of flats, streets and parks of that area, and the landscapes of the English coast and the Drome in France. Olivia's work is based upon on- and off-site sketchbook drawings and paintings as well as still and moving digital images collected on her iPhone. Sketches use charcoal, ink, watercolour and pastels. Her work is mostly on paper using acrylic, watercolour, ink, charcoal and crayon. Olivia wants the images she creates to demonstrate a sense of commitment to a place, a reflective commentary on the continuum of what can be described as 'ordinary', whether a building seen from a commuter train or a brown English beach on the South Coast. Education Olivia studied music at the University of East Anglia, followed by a career as a teacher and in teacher education and research. Towards the end of her career in education Olivia began painting and drawing courses at City Lit London and completed the two-year Fine Art course there in 2016. Select Exhibitions/Awards She won the Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Open prize in 2019, and the RWS Cass Art Solo Exhibition prize in 2020. She was elected as an Associate Member of the RWS in 2022. Her work was selected for the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in 2022 and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2023. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I usually create larger works, so painting on postcards was a new experience for me. The three postcards are based on work from my sketchbooks where I develop my ideas. I draw and paint en plein air as much as I can - it's when I feel completely alive and free. On Worthing Beach: we frequently visit Worthing for family reasons and I've grown to love painting its wonderful skies and brown beaches. In search of Hadrian's Wall: based on plein air sketches this year in the magnificent Northumbria countryside near the Wall. 'In the park, Southeast London': one of the many paintings I've done of the park on my road - a place which played such an important role in my mental wellbeing during the Covid years. Charlotte Aiken Luminance Mini IV Oil and gold leaf on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Charlotte Aiken is a Gloucestershire-based artist, creating visual impressions of the sky through the use of oil paint and mixed media. Her practice celebrates the sublimity of the sky and explores her own fascination with cloud formations and the power of nature. Charlotte graduated from the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London, in 2017. Shortly after graduating Charlotte won the Graduate Art Prize, with ARTIQ, London. Charlotte has exhibited across London and parts of the UK. In 2023 her painting was exhibited in 'Only Connect', The Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, curated by David Remfry. Charlotte's work centres on the notion of infinity, as exemplified by her representations of the sky. The composition of her paintings is guided by the structure of the cloud formations she photographs. She chooses on occasion to use decorating brushes to accentuate imperfection and texture, recreating an impression of the sky rather than an accurate portrayal. Charlotte's work is often informed by her autism, which, she says, places her in a world that can feel overexposed, pixelated, and too vivid. She uses her paintings to comprehend what she observes; the layers of colour and brush strokes are physical manifestations of what the world looks like through her eyes. Faith XLVII Untitled (1) Red Wax Crayon on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Frankie Shea About Liberty's journey as an artist began on the streets of South Africa in 1997, as a young graffiti writer known as Faith47. She rose to prominence on the international street art scene before becoming widely recognised for her multidisciplinary artistic practice. Monumental and intimate, private and public, her artwork takes the form of murals, sculptures, video installations, tapestries and drawings. Deconstructing notions of value and place, investigating forms of domination, she explores the shapes of human perception. In quest of the divine, she expresses a longing for a deeper connection to the wisdoms of the natural world. There is too the active investigation and questioning of the human condition, its deviant histories and our own inherent existential search. She has shown at the Musée des Beaux-arts in Nancy, France, the Calais Museum of Fine Art, the Bernard Magrez Foundation in France, Mana Contemporary and the Brooklyn Museum, both in the USA. London SE1 (commended work) Gallery Representation Beaux Arts Bath, Cornwall Contemporary Penzance, and Eastwood Fine Art Hampshire Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork "Walking my dogs in the early morning I notice the small seasonal shifts. I think about the quiet beauty in the everyday, particularly in the natural commonplace things, rarely celebrated. My paintings are inspired by what I see around me: the form of a tree; the long lines of twining stems; the intricacies of birds in flight. Often I am reminded of a poem or a piece of music and revisit an idea resonating there. Before the layers of gesso, I draw in charcoal or acrylic and the subsequent gilding or linseed oil shine in contrast. I paint in oil from my photographs, tracing the lines loosely with a fine square ended brush, observing the tonal shifts, and the marks build up the complicated patterns of the whole. Using traditional materials, my work draws attention to these fleeting moments and underscores their value." Marie Lenclos Light Oil on card Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Marie Lenclos is a Paris born painter living and working in South-London since 1995. Marie is developing a recognised body of work based on the observation of urban landscapes and buildings close to her home and studio in Loughborough Junction. Lenclos was a documentary video maker for around 12 years. This made her very conscious of the way she looked at the city around her. She got used to 'framing' things all the time, even without a camera. Walking around she would suddenly see something and think: 'this would make a good shot'. Since becoming a painter, she sees something and thinks: 'there is a painting in this'. Her paintings capture a 'moment of seeing', when lines, light, colours and shapes all fall into a particular order that suddenly makes sense to her. Reality is simplified, and perspectives become her own. Her main focus is colour, which she aims to make vibrant and emotional through gradients and the use of light. Education 2001 MA RCA (Communication Art and Design) 1998 BA (1st Class Honours) Camberwell College of Art (Graphic Design) 1993 MA Sorbonne, Paris (French Literature) Select Exhibitions/Awards 2023 Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy Town House Open, Spitalfields Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries Everyday Sunshine Shop, solo show 2022 Brian Sinfield Gallery, Oxfordshire Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries Kudu Gallery, Peckham 2021 Art For Youth, Mall Galleries Artist Support Pledge, Hastings Contemporary Brick Lane Gallery, London 2020 Visual Art Open, Mall Galleries Upstart Gallery, London Linley's Design Store, London Sunny Art Centre, London Studio 73, Solo Show, London 2019 Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize exhibition, London Gallery Representation Gina Cross, Tom Cox, Brian Sinfield Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork A typical Lenclos urban landscape inspired by the forms and light Marie delights in during her walks around her South London neighbourhood. Liqing Tan Listen Oil on fine paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Liqing Tan is a prizewinning artist with international exposure. Her work centres on exploring and experimenting with the manifestations of human experience. Creating imaginary spaces (landscapes, objects or body) or capturing dramatic moments (real or illusory) are important elements of her paintings. They are intended to elicit a degree of ambiguity, inviting the viewer to bring their subjective judgement to each piece. Informed by daily routines, they are storylines about contradictory happenings - documenting intimacy and separation, appearing and disappearing, missing and forgetting, discovering and reflecting, focusing and diverging. She seeks to create strange atmospheres in her compositions, mixing ambiguous elements with dramatic features to ultimately represent the co-existence and complexity of human feelings. Three oil paintings are an exploration of the theme "closer". They are divided into "Listen", "Chat", and "Obsess" three parts, through the modulation of space and colour, describing a private scene of intimacy, a sense of reflection, of pleasant, sometimes suspicious, human warmth. The fourth chapter of watercolour is a winter vision, conveying a quiet and looming atmosphere, and the same time, inviting. Harriet Porter Small Mirage Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Harriet Porter is a London-based artist specialising in still-life oil painting, making quiet monochromatic works of solitary reflective objects. "I paint from observation, concerned with finding patterns of tone within the whole scene, focusing on the glints of light set off by shapes of shadow. I use layers of translucent glaze to build up the feeling of luminosity. The space I create is a world where nothing bad ever happens: a sparse dreamy place filled with a still, tranquil glow". Harriet's preoccupation is informed by her previous career as an art director and stylist. Working in film and photography, she found the camera increasingly frustrating. As a capturing device it became insufficient to describe the wonder with which she perceived the shimmer that constantly caught her eye. She found that painting achieved more accurate results, bypassing unwelcome photographic detail. Rebecca Hardaker Appreciate me no.2, 2023 Watercolour pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Rebecca Hardaker's practice is an intersection between painting and drawing. Executed with an unabashed fondness for innocence, each canvas is an ensemble of abstract mark making and figures. Rebecca often never has a plan when she starts a new painting. One mark provokes another and so gives birth to a landscape of abstraction. She moves around the canvas, filling it with painterly strokes and line. The process is fast and intuitive, unencumbered by rules. Her palette is bright and dreamy. Just as she never sets out a plan, Rebecca doesn't cancel out mistakes. These are part of the composition, which is the artist's immediate translation of her cerebral vision giving way for to whimsical uncertainty. Cathy Tabbakh Cobalt Monstera, 2023 Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Cathy Tabbakh is a French painter working in the UK, with a passion for the mesmerising power of colour. She has exhibited in various galleries in Europe, the UK, USA and Australia and soon in Seoul, Korea. She holds degrees in Fashion Textile, Design and Fine Art (2011) and Art History and Archaeology (2017) both in Lyon. Cathy's work can be found in private collections worldwide and since 2021 as part of the Soho House Collection, with 2 paintings commissioned a displayed in Soho House Paris (2021), a commissioned floral ceramic sculpture displayed in Brighton Beach House (2022) and several works soon to be in High Road London in Chiswick, coming September 2023. Cathy's work collides imaginary forms with existing landscapes through the use of both architectural and botanical elements. Her compositions incorporate a hint of surrealism, as to alter presumed proportion, and a saturated colour palette to punctuate the contrast between shadow and light. Tabbakh's still-lifes show her desire to surround herself with green spaces combined with her love for architecture and interior design. She recently introduced ceramics into her practise, reflecting the colourful and bold style of her still-lifes. Charlotte Aiken Luminance Mini III Oil and gold leaf on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Charlotte Aiken is a Gloucestershire-based artist, creating visual impressions of the sky through the use of oil paint and mixed media. Henry Ward Untitled Acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Katherine Kittoe About Henry Ward is a painter living and working in London. He works primarily as a painter, but also makes drawings and small sculptures. He is interested in exploring the language of paint by investigating the threshold between abstraction and representation. He maintains three specific sites of practice; his kitchen table, where he makes small objects, his shed, where he paints on paper, and the studio. These three spaces create an ongoing dialogue between different ways of working and different paces. He was shortlisted for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in 2018, 2019 and 2022, and longlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2021. He is included in the inaugural "The Football Art Prize" in 2022. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions. Laura Hope Eye Spy II, 2023 Mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About My work is centred around unspoken emotions and quiet inner lives. Created from my own staged photographs of models, it is often a response to memories, relationships and personal crisis. Through composition, cropping and reversing the image, I strive to convey an uneasy narrative that shines a light on subtle feelings that often hide in the shadows. With hints to another era, my figures live in a world that is both nostalgic and present. I sit on the fence between painting and drawing - feeling that 'painting' better describes my process but knowing that 'drawing' is my method of creation. My training as an illustrator as well as my time working as a memorial artist (hand etching onto granite) have cemented the importance of line and mark making in my practice. A combination of thick, harsh scribbles and precise, light touches alongside a unique translation of colour are the voices used to tell my stories. Looking through a crack in a door or spying through a keyhole was something I wanted to explore with these tiny works. The scale is much smaller than I usually work, so I decided to work to a crop rather than reducing the image. Crops fascinate me, especially in portraiture... Without all the features, can you still translate their expression? How are you being watched? Is it a menacing stare or a loving gaze? Henry Glover Simply done, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About I am an oil painter and ceramicist. Laura Jane Scott Considered Interior paint on card Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Katherine Kittoe About Laura Jane Scott is an artist working in minimalist, geometric abstraction and colour-field painting. Her desire for formal simplicity through geometric form and her striking use of colour enables her to produce work where painting explores a model of architectural form and where colour embodies a physical structure. The resulting work is a refined visual vocabulary of form and colour. "My aim is always to express an idea as simply and as elegantly as possible. To strip everything back to only what is necessary to communicate that idea. My work is primarily an exploration of balance, of positive and negative space, of presence and absence." Education Laura studied at Camberwell College of Arts and Ravensbourne University London. Select Exhibitions/Awards Laura's work has been exhibited widely over the past seven years in London, Edinburgh, New York and Hamburg and has featured twice in the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Gallery Representation Laura is represented by Kittoe Contemporary in London and frequently shows work with &Gallery in Edinburgh. She also sells work independently and accepts commissions for large scale installations. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Laura has submitted two works to Art on a Postcard Winter 2023. The first is a miniature of her relief series 'Necessary Limits' which explores colour, balance and form within the confines of some self-imposed boundaries. The second piece 'Considered' is a minimalist painting of saturated, clean-edged shapes using colours from Laura's signature palette and the component shapes that often appear in her work. Jess Quinn Come And Join Us Pencil and pen on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Katherine Kittoe About Jess Quinn creates surreal worlds, filled with colour and pattern, that mix the magical and the mundane. She weaves together memories and real events with fictional characters and places. These imagined worlds, inhabited by women and wild animals, offer an escape, the possibility of a new existence. However, there is always suggestion of darkness, a looming threat. Her characters look out at us with an unflinching gaze that we are compelled to return. They are represented as protectors and builders, the wild animals as guardians representing their strength. This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Gretchen Andrew hacks systems of power with art, code, and glitter. Gretchen's work dares us to dismiss it. After leaving Silicon Valley for a world that would allow her to be herself, Gretchen became known for her playful hacks on major art world and political institutions, including Frieze, The Whitney Biennial, Artforum, The Turner Prize, and The 2020 Presidential Election. Her work has been recently exhibited at museums in California, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. David Micheaud Yellow Buoy Oil on board Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About David Micheaud's practice is concerned with the act of looking. Seemingly mundane objects and landscapes are carefully observed over time. Overlooked details become central in paintings that capture the atmospheric tones of light and delicate shifts in colour of the environments that frame them. They appear to be born of a resistance to the typical pace of looking; a desire to slow down and delve deeper. She has exhibited at Dallas Contemporary and Honolulu Museum of Art and has been shown at major art fairs in London, New York, Miami and Seoul. Kate Dunn Call Me The Bubbler, 2023 Acrylic, spray paint, coloured pencil, pencil and pigment on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Kate Dunn makes paintings and environments about devotional practice and the artist's ownership of visual identity. This is felt in their grappling with the existential notion of vocational work, evidenced through repeated references to sacred spaces and Dunn's refusal of painterly categorisation. Personal experiences of dissociation and nihilism led to an inquiry around visual identity and repetitive artistic approach. This, in turn, birthed their most recent series, the collage works, in which the surface appears a fragmented montage of paintings, images and textures, but is in fact, all made of the same surface by the artist's hand. Selected solo shows include mid-morning in the scriptorium at TJ Boulting, London, Il Tabernacolo welcome to pharmakono at A+A Gallery, Venice, and SKIN OF LIGHT at SET Bermondsey, London. This series follows a process of multiplicity, meaning unlimited stylistic approaches are embraced within each piece. The emphasis is on expansion rather than limitation, the outcome of a recent revelation in which I attempted to bring many of my artistic identities to the fore. These works emphasise the concept of image, pattern, perspective and paint, all coexisting as texture on the surface. There is no clear focus, allowing the notion of figure and ground to remain in continuous flux. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Knapp Gallery, London (solo) Gallery Representation Cubitt, London Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The paintings I have submitted for Art on a Postcard Winter Auction 2023 - 'Tippi at Cooling' and 'The Anchoress' - are examples of my current painting practice, which relates two systems of thought routinely dissociated by modern secular concepts and values: religion and aesthetics. My paintings propose an intervention, not in what is generally regarded as a defunct system of vision - religious imagery - but an intervention in the discourses of a contemporary visual system: - the contemporary painted image - and conflates those historical idioms with contemporary secular visual systems such as fashion photography and cinema. 'Tippi at Cooling' is very much about a genius loci -'spirit of place' - in this case the low-lying marshlands of Cooling in Kent. Across this landscape the figure of the American actress, Tippi Hedren walks, carrying a bird cage. Above her a small group of birds is thrown into relief by the stormy sky. The scene depicted is based on a personal memory. 'The Anchoress' is a smaller version of a larger studio painting which presents a 1930's fashion model holding lilies against a dark and contemplative background. The image suggested to me a similar sense of genius loci - 'spirit of place' - in this case the devotional cell of a mediaeval anchorite (e.g., St. Julian) These paintings explore the contemporary communication of meaning and experience in religious paintings (the visionary, the religious ecstatic). Matthew Eguavoen Sadiq Acrylic on cartridge paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Matthew Imuetiyan Eguavoen (b.1988, Edo State) lives and works in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. Matthew Eguavoen is a contemporary artist with a singular style. Far more expressive than the traditional portrait, the Lagos-based artist uses color and composition to raise questions about gender, race and history, particularly linked to Nigeria and Africa. In his portraits, Matthew uses a combination of oil paint, acrylic paint, charcoal, and graphite pencils to document stories that encompass the emotions and demeanor of his muse to the viewer of his work. He depicts the vulnerability and openness associated with expressing the feelings of love, as well as the apprehension of protecting one's self from heart break and ulterior motives. His work addresses the lack of awareness on mental health, especially depression. Due to the stigma associated with mental health, conversations about depression are not often had, hence information, and resources required to deal with depression are sparse and the effect of societal pressures and timelines seton youths to achieve certain goals by a specific age (marriage, financial goals, family responsibilities). Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork 1. Womanhood "In a world where gender roles are constantly in flux and in one that increasingly understands gender and biological sex as two distinct realms, I often find myself wondering about the nature of womanhood. What does it mean to be a woman? We no longer make sense of what it means to be a woman through a set of physical characteristics or personality traits, nor through fixed societal roles. But if being a woman is not determined by these dimensions, is there some other element that is shared by all women?" 2. More like family This piece was created to acknowledge people in my life who have supported and nourished me mentally and emotionally, most especially in my career, and have continually my back one without asking for their act of kindness to be repaid. 3. Sadiq Sadiq is a Social Media friend whom I respect because of how he has continually lived his life without being confined to societal standards. He has continued to be expressional, most especially with issue in relation to gender, and i have used this piece to represent that part of him. This lot has been curated by AOAP About This summer Rebecca was selected by David Remfry RA to exhibit in the Royal Academy's summer exhibition. The drawing (sold during the exhibition) was one of six artworks picked out in The Times article, reviewing by Lead Art Correspondent, Laura Freeman. Rebecca exhibits regularly at the Mall Galleries, London, including both the ROI and the Royal Society of British Artists, and she was selected for the Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize (2021). In 2022 she was awarded The Surgeon's Prize by the Royal Society of British Artists, and in August 2021, she was awarded the Michael Harding First Prize in Oil Painting by the Gallery at Green & Stone, Chelsea, London. She was subsequently invited to have her first solo show with the gallery, 'Returning to London' in December 2022. Society of Women Artists 2019 Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Rebecca enjoys capturing everyday moments - not the 'special' moments which are easily noticed or remembered, but rather those that we take for granted and give little or subliminal attention. By immortalizing these through art, she raises their importance and encourages the viewer to relook at them. Her figures are captured in very familiar surroundings and absorbed in their own environment, which makes them easy to relate to and empathize with; as a viewer, we are encouraged to add stories and background to the characters. "My artwork acts as a time-capsule or visual diary of contemporary routines and culture. I am interested in encouraging people to reflect on the way we live today." Olivia Adamczyk O'Sullivan In the Park, South East London Gouache on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Olivia lives in Southeast London. Some I select because they hold a personal significance, others I collect which have an unknown history, and I paint them directly from life. For my three Art on a Postcard submissions, I have painted objects which were found, or around me in the studio, or which I saw on the way to the studio. The three feathers were treasured finds on a recent family holiday in South Wales - I can never leave a beach without filling my pockets with feathers, shells etc etc! The tape measure has been a trusty companion in my studio for a long time and being bright orange is always easily found! And finally, I spotted the Chelsea bun in a shop on my way to studio and couldn't resist it, both to paint, then eat! You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Rebecca Hardaker Appreciate me no.4, 2023 Watercolour pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Rebecca Hardaker's practice is an intersection between painting and drawing. Gallery Representation Brooke Benington (London) Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Katie Tomlinson's paintings reflect on the united experiences of women and focus on the intricate dynamics of human connections. Ideas surrounding power structures and vulnerability; nuances of consent, exchange, and desire; heteronormativity and performative femininity; and the politicisation of intimacy recur throughout her practice. Using vivid colour, playful and surreal motifs, absurdity, symbolism, and varying applications of paint, the works are imbued with tension, concealed messages, and fluctuating tempos. Katie's paintings serve as both an exploration into the medium and the figures in which inhabit the frame. These figures demand further exploration, inviting questions about their identities, actions, motivations, and relationships with one another. Katie's paintings overtly reference moments throughout the canon of Western, patriarchal, art history. She reconsiders, reconfigures, and reclaims specific moments from Painting's problematic past. Harbouring this as a tool to enhance, develop, and reinforce her paintings' contemporary social themes within a post-MeToo era. Tomas Harker Sciaridae, 2023 Oil on canvas Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Ell Pennick About Tomas Harker's works address the nature of meaning in conditions of mediated experience and hyperreal saturation. Over the last several years, the artist's practice has increasingly blurred the lines between fairytale and reality, often by subtly manipulating notions of the uncanny. The mythologies leaking into his recent works are not simply an exploration of fantasy, however; rather, they act as a point of entry to the abstract network of thoughts through which they come into being, suggesting that a real-world circumstance is not quite what it seems. Existing on the fringes of popular culture, Tomas's practice often draws from a variety of image production and distribution systems in an attempt to make sense of a cosmic order becoming increasingly disordered. His paintings reflect the increasing murkiness and confusion of contemporary life, whilst remaining mindful of the dynamics of power benefiting from uncertainty. In spite of their relationship to complex, significant systemic and social issues, Tomas's work manages to retain a lightness of touch, a sense of irreverence, through the inclusion of mythical aesthetics. Unlike magical realism, however, his paintings act as thought experiments - providing the viewer with material by which interpretative systems can be created. They insist that we move beyond defined aesthetic language and into a mode of thinking capable of establishing connections between disparate chunks of metaphor, reference and symbolism as a means of better understanding the physical sensations capable of dominating experience, opinion and existence. Tomas's works therefore venture into a new realm, where representations of the unreal are presented as symbols, or emissaries, of alternate understandings. Royal Academy Summer Show. Gallery Representation Saul Hay Gallery Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The structures I focus on, often constructed from concrete and metal, brutal in nature, straddle well-travelled motorways and roads, familiar landmarks that evoke feelings of nostalgia often formed from memories of childhood journeys. Unchanged and built to last, they offer sturdiness and a consistent presence that spans decades. They may be accompanied by the addition of graffiti or nature might have taken hold where possible, only adding to this presence. By documenting and recording these structures using the language of painting and drawing on the traditions of landscape painting, I aim to expand our perceptions and viewpoints and challenge how we look at these structures in our everyday landscapes. My aim in to readdress the negative images of black people in museums, with my powerful portraits of Black British Londoners. I am already known as the Lucian Freud of Multiculturalism. The four postcards are my decorative, with a bit of imagination thrown in. The portrait of Queen Tiye, is from a 3000-year-old Egyptian portrait of grandmother of Tutankhamun, it is the first realistic portrait in western art and it of a black woman. I just gave her a modern haircut. Please google my name or check me out on Wikipedia. You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Rebecca Hardaker Appreciate me no.3, 2023 Watercolour pencil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About Rebecca Hardaker's practice is an intersection between painting and drawing.
