1940 Excelsior 98cc AutobykRegistration no. LMD 115Frame no. TAM4412Engine no. XXA23565During WWII Excelsior created the Welbike for British paratroopers, which later transformed into the Corgi. Before the war they had started the manufacture of an autocycle, the Autobyk, which continued post-war and spearheaded the upsurge in autocycles which provided cheap transport for many of the population. The Autobyk stayed in production from 1938 until 1956, in various forms, and proved to be an excellent form of transport throughout the 1940s and 50s, until the advent of cheaper forms of motor cars, and greater disposable incomes. LMD 115 was acquired by the vendor approximately 10 years ago, and whilst the bike has not been used since that time, it has been kept in good, dry storage. No key is required, the engine is not turning, and will, therefore, require re-commissioning or restoration to some degree.
