A Victorian walnut veneered Davenport, with piano front and pop up stationery compartment, fitted with four actual and four dummy drawers and raised on castors. Width 59 cm(see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The Davenport is structurally very sound. It is in generally good untouched original unrestored condition with only minor problems. The pop up section operates. There is some veneer and polish bubbling to the top domed surface. There is an old return moulding repair to the left hand side of the rise and fall section. The piano front is in good condition as is the hinge. The drawer slides as it should. The writing surface is in good order and appears to be original. All drawers run as they should and all have locks. We have no keys. There are minor veneer nibbles to the drawer fronts and around the plinth. The rear panel has slightly lifting veneer in two places but no losses. There are numerous scuffs around the plinth base. The castors appear to be original.

Lot 1781

An Anglo-Indian carved hardwood Davenport desk, the superstructure carved with a battle scene and the slope front with mythical creature and figural supports, all raised on lion mask and paw front feet. Width 61 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The Davenport is in extremely good condition. It is structurally very solid with no loose joints. The superstructure is in very good order. The bottom left hand drawer handle is damaged and partially missing. The slope front is not warped. The writing leather is perished and worn. The left hand side carved edge of the flap has a 2 cm minor loss to the carving. The back panels which are all carved are in very good order with no issues. The right hand door which encloses the four short drawers is missing its original knob. The carved supports and base are all in very good order. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

A Copeland china oblong dish with hand-painted central floral spray initialled "MC" with gilt embellished rim, printed "Copeland China England" to base, together with a twin-handled vase of squash form with green ground and painted floral spray decoration to the yellow and gilt highlighted handles with cross mark to base, a Derby "Haddon" tea saucer and two Davenport Imari decorated egg cups and one further similar CONDITION REPORTS Copeland dish has numerous surface scratches, build up of dirt, areas of loss to the gilt. There is a chip in the corner of the rim of the rim and also an area of loss to part of the rim. There is also a large crack that goes from one corner through widthways to the opposite side of the dish and a couple of other smaller cracks. Some crazing and accretions.
