A FRENCH NICKEL-FINISH AND GILT BRASS DESK COMPENDIUM TIMEPIECE WITH BAROMETER AND THERMOMETERHENRY MARC, PARIS, CIRCA 1880The eight-day timepiece with platform cylinder regulated by sprung monometallic balance applied to the arched backplate stamped with serial number 441 to lower left hand corner, the 3.25 inch circular white enamel Roman numeral dial inscribed H'RY MARC, PARIS to centre and with Arabic five minutes beyond the minute track, with blued steel spade hands, moulded silvered bezel and a frosted gilt oval mask engraved with symmetrical foliate designs to upper and lower margins, set within an oval moulded nickel finish case with bevel-glazed gilt cavetto moulded front and push-on rear cover, standing on an oval moulded foot beside a conforming aneroid barometer with circular enamel scale calibrated in barometric inches and with the usual weather observations, both joined at the centre with a shaped gilt panel applied with a mercury tube FAHRENHEIT and CENTIGRADE thermometer between decorative upper and pendant finials, the whole set on a rectangular marble plinth base.21.5cm (8.5ins) high, 25.5cm (10ins) wide 8cm (3.125ins) deep. Henry Marc is noted in Allix, Charles and Bonnert, Peter CARRIAGE CLOCKS Their history and development as probably a retailer of various mantel and other small clocks and refers to a relatively early carriage clock (number 26886) supplied to Marc by Japy Freres. Condition Report: Timepiece movement is wound and will run for a little while before stopping indicating that a gentle clean/service is required. The dial has slight rubbing to the signature and some oil deposits/smears otherwise appears undamaged. The barometer has not yet been 'bag tested' (as we do not currently have access to a bag big enough!) but otherwise appears to be in fine condition with no visible faults to the register. The thermometer has heavy tarnishing to the silvered scale otherwise appears undamaged. The case appears to be in very good original condition with faults limited to some oxidation/rubbing to the areas of gilding and a couple of tiny edge chips to the marble base.Timepiece is complete with a key. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY ARCHITERCT'S DESK IN THE MANNER OF GILLOWS, LATE 18TH CENTURY With ratchet adjustable top, the top drawer fitted with a tooled leather inset slide above divisions 82cm high, 126.5cm wide, 68cm deep Condition Report: Desk with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. The expected old splits and chips - see images. Old repairs - see images for details. Tooled leather to interior slide of drawer with the expected wear and losses. Handles appear original. One lock is a later replacement. A key is present and operates the lock to the door. No key present for the drawers, but all are open. Hinged edge to the top does not rest at a chosen angle but drops down is not held. The feet with later blocks to the backs, some old glued repairs, and some feet 're-tipped'. The brass work throughout retaining little or no gilding- quite dull, matt greyish in colour. Tortoiseshell quite dry and showing some effects of sunlight and general dulling A rosewood perpetual calendar of arched form, 15cm high; lacking small elements of brass to edges, reverse strut repaired, splits to back- later papers A rosewood framed inkstand/standish, 35cm wide; 1 glass well with small chips to glass- lid loose, the other with damaged lid (visible inside) gilding very rubbed, shrinkage faults to frame and old polish deposits, base lining lifting A casket with hinged domed top, 22cm wide; interior leather marked and rubbed- slightly tired A stamp box, 9.7cm wide;- probably a pounce grinder- section of brass detached- some missing tortoiseshell, end slide panel stuck A blotter, 28 x 22.5cm; samll losses to veneers to edge- interior fairly good, reverse and spine showing sunlight and contact wear damages (slightly musty) A set of postal scales on serpentine base "S MORDAN & CO London", 6 gilt metal weights to drawer which is slightly warped replacement base lining Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report. A BURR WALNUT AND CROSSBANDED PARTNER'S PEDESTAL DESK EARLY 20TH CENTURY With tooled leather inset top, the top incorporating tooled leather inset slides to the sides 66cm high, 141cm wide, 93cm deep overall Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some fading overall. In very good presentable and useable condition overall. Some minor old chips and splits, some minor old repairs. The handles and locks are original throughout. Key is present to operate locks on one side of the desk (drawers and pair cupboards on one side of the desk only) The burr veneers are extremely well selected and attractive. High quality solid oak drawer linings. The leather is generally tidy but with some marks including thin ring marks. Appropriate treatment could largely resolve or improve the appearance of these marks if done well. The height of the feet may possibly have been reduced slightly. There are some additional old marks and abrasions to the feet and adjacent moulded plinth sections as expected for age and position. There is some minor worm damage almost exclusively isolated to the shorter sides of moulding to the plinths on one side of the desk (see additional images) Please refer to all additional images available via email for visual reference to condition. A VICTORIAN CARVED OAK DESK ARMCHAIR MID 19TH CENTURY The arms carved with ram's heads, with loose buttoned leather squab seat 80cm high, 66cm wide, 55cm deep overall Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use. The later aged red leather squab cushion is buttoned to the seat. There is some opacity/fading to the back crest rail area. There is a visible sectional join to the upper area of crest rail with small knocks suggesting that there is a possibility that this has been detached at some point; there are two discreet possible repair dowel marks to the back left support of the crest. The underside of the chair is fabric covered and the areas covered have not been inspected and cannot be guaranteed. There is good colour, figuring and play of the medullary rays within the oak.
