A Dunmore Pottery grotesque jug, circa 1880, modelled as a dragon in standing position, mouth open, treacle glazed, impressed mark to base, 36cm high Note: established by Peter Gardner in 1860, the Dunmore Pottery, based in Stirlingshire, Scotland, became fashionable within London society in the 1870s after the patronage of the Prince of Wales in 1871. Similar vases are held in the National Museum of Wales (with a red glaze) and the National Museum of Scotland (with a green glaze)

The Viscount Fincastle & P C Eliott-Lockhart A Frontier Campaign: A Narrative of the Operations of the Malakand and Buner Field Forces 1897-1898 London: Methuen & Co., 1898. Original red diapered cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Portrait frontispiece, 16 illustrations, 1 large folding map to rear. 232 pages. Name of previous owner in front. Wear to the outer boards edges. First edition. In 1897 Murray (18721962), later 8th Earl of Dunmore, but best known by his courtesy title Viscount Fincastle, went to India as a lieutenant in the 16th lancers, also acting as a war correspondent for The Times. He received the Victoria Cross for attempting to rescue a colleague at Nawa Kili, Upper Swat, under heavy and close fire, becoming the only journalist to be so honoured. The frontispiece reproduces a photograph of Major-General Sir Bindon Blood, who commanded the Malakand and the Buner Field Forces, relieving the garrison during the siege of Malakand.
