The Royal Enfield Bullet has the longest production run of any motorcycle having remained continuously in production since 1948. The Bullet marque is even older, and has passed 75 years of continuous production. The Royal Enfield and Bullet names derive from the company's links with the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, London. The British company produced many noteworthy motorcycles over the next seven decades until the '70s when it folded. Manufacture continued in India, though the bikes were predominantly intended for local use and were not widely exported. In 1995 Enfield of India bought the rights to the name "Royal Enfield" and began renewed development efforts. Modern carburetors, five-speed transmissions and new twin-leading-shoe front brake systems were notable improvements.
