A carnelian intaglio showing a bust of Minerva or Roma draped and wearing a crested helmet. The engraving is almost exclusively rendered by cutting with a rotating wheel, a technique that comes to the fore in the second century AD and continues thereafter. The silver mount had two pairs of loops for suspension on a necklace or bracelet. 20 by 14 mm. with mount.

Benjamin James, London an oak longcase clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour markings and Arabic five-minute outer numerals, the matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds dial and decorative engraving to the date aperture, with cast-brass crown and cherub spandrels to the four corners, the arch with a silvered boss engraved with the maker's name Benjamin James, London, the oak case with break-arch top to the trunk door and fluted pillars to the hood, height 220cm.Notes: Benjamin James is recorded as working in London in circa 1730.Reference: Watch and Clockmakers of the World, Brian Loomes, N.A.G.
