The name "Beefeater" came from a visiting Grand Duke who was astonished by the large amounts of beef eaten by the Yeoman Guards. The monarch's cipher, GR, at the base of the handle is an abbreviation of George Rex, for King George VI. Style One, pistol handle. Brown hat; mask up; green coat; white cravat.Dick Turpin (1705 - 1739) joined forces with fellow highwayman Tom King, whom he accidentally shot. Before he died, King betrayed him. Dick Turpin was hanged in 1739 for the murder of an Epping Forest gamekeeper. The first style of the Dick Turpin jug has the mask up on the brim of the tricorn, and a pistol forms the handle. All of the sizes should have "R.T." inscribed on the pistol grip, however, it may be more obvious on certain jugs due to the casting variations. Documents & Ephemera - Staffordshire.  1870-early 20th century. Archive relating to Henry Warrington & Son & his Berry Hill Colliery & Brickworks. Correspondence, agreements, plans, ephemeral items, reports, items from Park Hill Colliery, Cheadle, etc.  (H. Warrington & Sons works at Berry Hill, Fenton, Stoke on Trent, is recorded in Kelly's T. D. from 1896 to 1908 editions. Henry was born 1838 in Cheadle & left school at the age of 13 in 1851 to work for William Bowers who operated Berry Hill Colliery. An associated brick works had been established by 1870. Henry worked his way up the company eventually succeeding Bowers as the owner of the business some time not long after Bower's death in 1880. The business also included an iron works at Berry Hill but the forges closed around 1900. Henry Warrington employed 1,000 men, farmed 400 acres & lived at Fenton Manor House).

A 19th Century Photograph album belonging to Sir Henry David Jones GCB DCL (14th March 1791-4th August 1866) and his wife Lady Charlotte Jones, the album contains at least one photograph by Roger Fenton from the Crimea, photographs relating to Sir Harry's military service, early photographs from the Middle East, the Royal Family, home life, and images from around the U.K., General Sir Harry Jones was educated at the Royal Military Academy Woolwich and commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1808, during the Walcheren Campaign he served in the attack on the Fortress at Flushing, he took part in the Defence of Cadiz (1809), Siege of Badajoz (1812), Battle of Vittoria (1813), Battle of Nivelle (1813), and was wounded leading the Forlorn hope in an assault at the Siege of San Sebastián in September 1813, in 1815 he joined the army under General Lambert in North America following the Battle of New Orleans, he married Charlotte Hornsby in 1824 with whom he had six sons and five daughters, he served during the Crimean War commanding British forces at the Battle of Bormasund (Baltic Sea), and was Commander, Royal Engineers at the siege of Sebastopol, in 1856 he was appointed Governor of the Royal Military college, Sandhurst and in 1859 served on the Commission on the Defence of the United Kingdom, he was an early member of the Royal Photographic Society and a friend of the war photographer Roger Fenton, the album is signed to the inside front page by lady Jones and dated 1860, it contains approximately 135 photographs together with several pencil drawings, watercolours, and prints, the photographs include, a photograph of 'Lieut. Genl. A collection of seven Victorian and later hallmarked silver thimbles and two fob medals. The fob medals to include one inscribed 'Camp 1923' and 'W Cole 100 yds'  Hallmarked for Birmingham 1922 Makers mark for m Adams Ltd. The other having a central cartouche inscribed 'L/C W Cole' to front and 'Camp 1922 449 yds 1st' to verso. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1921. Makers mark for Herbert Bushell & Son Ltd.  The collection of seven thimbles to include one being stamped Dorcas with CH for maker Charles Horner. Another Victorian example hallmarked for Chester 1899 with makers mark for Charles Horner.  Makers to also include James Fenton & Co, James Swann & Son. Combined weight approx 52.1g. Measures approx 2cm x 1.7cm (thimble) / 4.5cm x 3cm (largest fob medal).
