The poster features green and black stylised image of ghost of Tsarevich Dmitry (1582-1591) overlooking himself dressed in long purple caftan and jewelled fur hat with sword on his belt being murdered by a woman in a pink headscarf and other terrified woman in traditional Russian Court Gown. The film is based on the 1874 opera by Modest Mussorgsky (1839–1881) and the 1825 play by Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837), which tells the epic story of Tsar Boris Godunov, who reigned over Russia between 1598-1605. Boris Godunov inherited the throne of Ivan the Terrible after the death of his eldest son Fedor and Tsarevich Dmitry. The people blamed Boris for the death of the latter.
