A CASED SIX-SHOT PERCUSSION TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER BY JOSEPH LANG, LONDON The approx. 15cm octagonal barrel engraved "J. Lang 22 Cockspur St. London" along top face, with a sprung rammer beneath, the chambers of the cylinder numbered 1 to 6, the frame with scrolling floral engraving throughout, the chequered grip inset with a blank rectangular escutcheon, the whole measuring approx. 32cm in length; the velvet-lined case with paper manufacturer's label to lid and containing accoutrements to include a copper and brass powder flask by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield Note: The label bears an inscription in ink, which attributes the revolver's ownership to Lieutenant-General Sir Henry William Barnard (b. 1799). The inscription states that it was used by Barnard in the Crimea and at Delhi, where he was killed on 5th July 1857. Condition Report:In all mechanical respects, the revolver functions well. The hammer holds full and half-cock and releases with gentle pressure to the trigger. The cylinder rotates smoothly and the rammer beneath the barrel moves freely. Tarnish throughout. Some more significant rust/pitting in places. Dents/nicks here and there, particularly around the muzzle. Chequered grip with a deep patina through handling. Case in fair overall order. Patches of white mould to lid. Some chips, losses and old glued repairs. Internal dividers are loose in places. Velvet is much dirtied and faded. Paper manufacturer's label is faded and with many small tears and dents. Accessories are worn (the copper flask, for example, having multiple significant dents).
