1932-1933 BODYLINE ASHES TOUR, an Art Deco silver cased travelling/fob watch, the wavy engine turned square dial with black Arabic numerals enclosing subsidiary seconds dial, in a plain rounded square case with hanging loop, one side engraved "H. VERITY FROM FERGY" (probably Bill Ferguson) and a kangaroo, the other "ASHES 1933" and St. George and the Dragon, Birmingham 1932, case 1 1/2" square (Illustrated)NB Hedley Verity (1905-1943) was a bowler and played for Yorkshire and England between 1930 and 1939. He was named as one of Wisden's Cricketers of the Year in 1932. Part of the now infamous Bodyline Tour, Verity played with his controversial captain Douglas Jardine and fast bowlers Harold Larwood and Bill Voce. Commissioned in 1940 and promoted to Captain in the Green Howards, Verity was wounded in Sicily in 1943, but sadly died after an operation on his lung. He was buried with full military honours (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT) Condition Report: Appears to be in working order, though quite difficult to wind. Generally good.
