R on pair], plaque William Pope and silver watch fob prize boxing competition medal Headquarters Gymnasium, Aldershot named to the same, original documents, including Qualification for Promotion, photographs, memorial to William Stanley Pope of 1st Leicestershire Regiment, unsigned comical Christmas card from VI Division British Expeditionary Force 1915 and the medals attributed to his son, Gordon Stanley Pope (1913-1996), 1939-1945 Star, Burma Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal and United Nations Korea Medal, card box addressed G S Cope, Barwell, Leicestershire Sergeant William Stanley Pope of Hinckley, Leicestershire was accidently killed at the front whilst standing on the parapet of his trench, chatting and joking with others of the Leicesters, when suddenly a gun exploded and a portion struck Pope in the back, killing him within a few minutes. His last words were of his wife, child and mother. A press report of the time described Pope as "the pride of the Leicestershire Regiment". 23 at the time of his death on the 30th December 1915, he had enlisted six years earlier and rapidly distinguished himself in regimental sport, particularly boxing. He was buried at White House Cemetery, St Jean-les-Ypres
