Christmas card signed Elizabeth R, 1975, signed beneath the printed message in blue ballpoint pen and opposite a b & w photo of the Queen Mother with Princes Charles and Andrew on either side, folded ivory card with embossed gold crest to front, several minor marks to interior and exterior of card, minor bruise to lower outer corner, 19 x 23 cm. Caspar Hochfeder, not after 1493], 401 (of 402) leaves, lacking final blank, two columns, fifty-six lines and head-line, gothic letter, capital F on a2 recto supplied in gold and colours, other capitals in red and blue, initial strokes in red, B8 incorrectly signed B2, ms. quiring in black, cut away in places, the first leaf soiled, ink scored, and frayed with some loss, many headlines cut into to varying degrees by the binder, early ink marginalia and underscoring in different hands, mostly shaved at the fore-edge, text soiled, with some staining, particularly at the beginning and end, clean tear in P5 repaired, with trivial loss, top corner of Q1 torn away, mid-16th c. blind stamped pigskn over wooden boards, with a roll-tooled border of the saints, and the initials WPR, soiled, worn at the corners and foot of the spine, formerly with catches and clasps, folio (in 8's and 6's). The first book printed by Hochfeder was the Works of St. Anselm, dated 27 March 1491; in 1498 or 1499 he went to Metz, and continued printing there and later at Cracow in the 16th Century.
