A 'SOUVENIR OF SINGAPORE' PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM Circa 1930s, published by Nakajima & Co, 91 Bras Basah Rd, the album titled 'Souvenir of Singapore' to cover, containing 16 pages of topographical and other stock images of Singapore City and environs, scenes of everyday life etc., mostly 10x8cm, all titled, including views of Raffles Place; GPO (Fullerton); other significant buildings; Capitol Theatre; Thaipusam festival; Chinese Wedding; Market Scenes; Botanic Gardens; and a quantity of images showing the production of rubber from tree planting through to packing and shipping 26 x 31cm Condition: The three larger format photographs (24 x 12cm) are in fine condition, the third of which shows very minor smudges to three corners, likely due to a fault during development. The first page is slightly warped at the centre and the upper middle section of the photograph is similarly affected. The proceeding photographs are all in fine condition and all title labels are intact. The inside pages are similarly in fine condition with only very slight warping and minor wear to the corners. The inside cover has two end sections of a partially removed red and white sticker label. The right hand side of the cover shows some spots of wear (pictured). The bottom right hand corner of the front cover and the lower spine have minor damage where the canvas has torn and begun to split away from the board. The spine is otherwise intact and held with a black braided cord, the end of which has frayed. Overall, the album is in very fine condition. I have attached photos of the described areas of damage. This is an auction of preowned and antique items. Many items are of an age or nature which precludes their being in perfect condition and you should expect general wear and tear commensurate with age and use. We strongly advise you to examine items before you bid. Condition reports are provided as a goodwill gesture and are our general assessment of damage and restoration. Whilst care is taken in their drafting, they are for guidance only. We will not be held responsible for oversights concerning damage or restoration.

Irish War News. The Irish Republic Vol. 1 No. 1, Dublin Tuesday April 25 1916 [second day of the Rising]. Sm. quarto, single folded sheet. A superlative copy, easily the best to have come on the market in recent years, in immaculate condition throughout apart from a few finger marks. A very scarce item, the only publication known to have been printed in the area controlled by the rebels during the Rising, in a commandeered print works in Halston Street. The material in pages 1-3 may have been prepared in advance, but the 'Stop Press' column on page 4, headed 'The Irish Republic,' could not have been written before Tuesday morning as stated. Written by Pearse while under fire in the GPO, it names the members of the Provisional Government, and gives some details (mainly accurate) of the fighting to date. 'At the moment of writing this report (9.30am, Tuesday) the Republican forces hold all their positions and the British forces have nowhere broken through. There has been heavy and continuous fighting for nearly 24 hours, the casualties of the enemy being much more numerous than those on the Republican side. The Republican forces everywhere are fighting with splendid gallantry..' It is printed on the lightest of newsprint, and surviving copies are often in poor condition, torn, frayed or soiled; the present copy is altogether exceptional.
