There are two horizontal tears to the left edge, each circa 1cm, and a further smaller tear also visible to the upper section of the left edge. There is a cluster of pin holes to the upper left corner. There are a couple of surface scratches, most notable to the foot of the maid and to the left of her hat. There is a rectangular indentation to the right side of the upper edge, circa 3cm. A rare early 20th century 1st pattern original sterling silver Scoutmaster Officer’s silver hat badge, featuring the fleur-de-lis within a circlet, with a scroll titled ‘Be Prepared’. Complete with green plume, loops to the reverse, and a cotter pin. Marked with the registered design number ‘Rod 535092’ to reverse, plus the makers mark of JAW & Co for J.A.Wylie & Co. No hallmark date marks, but simply marked ‘Silver’. The registered design dates the pattern to 1909, but the badge may be a little later than this. Approximately 3.1cm across. Condition: generally good. Small depressed to the silver on the round frame, at the 2 o’clock position. Good colour and patina, with intact loops to the reverse. A little fading to the green plume, but nothing that detracts.
