Jan Dircksz BOTH (1615/18- 1652), Öl auf Leinwand, feine italianisierende Landschaft mit Hirten und Viehherde vor antiker Ruine, sehr schöne Tiefe, Maße: ca. 63 x 76 cm, verso handschriftlich "gemalt von dem holländischen Meister Both", doubliert und verso Leinwand zudem lasiert, im unteren Drittel des Bildes starkes Crakelé, mehrfach retouchiert und unsachgemäß ergänzt, dagegen im oberen Drittel prächtige Farbfrische. Rahmen des 19. Jhdts. wiederverwendet. Deutlich ist die Nähe zu Claude Lorrain sichtbar, mit dem Both eng zusammengearbeitet hat.
ALAN KING (SCOTTISH 1946-2013) RED HATTED TROUBADOUR Oil on panel, signed lower right, 15 x 13cm, (6 x 5?) Alan King studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1964 to 1968, and went on to teach. In King?s art practice he explored the process of painting, and his fascination with the craft is depicted through repetition of the emblem of The Red Hat, a motif which is used throughout his contemporary work. Brian Shields 'Braaq' FBA (1951-1997) - standing elderly gentleman holding a walking stick in his right hand wearing a brown coat, hat and white scarf; together with a smaller example depicting a gentleman and a small child, both signed Braaq, oils on board, 7.5" x 5.5" and 6.5"x 5" respectively (2)-** These are early examples by the Liverpool born Brian Shields as neither is inscribed with his deceased sister's name Ann-** The artist was born in Liverpool and is best known for his painting of industrial scenes of Northern Britain. He acquired the nickname 'Braaq' in his school days on account of his artistic talent, he was named after the French artist Georges Braque.
