CHARPENTIER & CIE, A GOOD ORMOLU AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK GARNITURE FRENCH, CIRCA 1860-1870 Clock with case with playful cherubs above white enamel dial signed for Charpentier & Cie, Bronzier, 8, Rue Charlot, Paris, supporting similarly signed 8 day striking movement, case 57cm high, 46cm wide The garnitures as cherubs carrying seven light floral sprays in baskets, 89.5cm high The firm of Charpentier & Cie was founded by Félix Maurice Charpentier (French 1858-1924) and recorded at 8, Rue Charlot, Paris in 1860. In turn the company merged with Masion Lemerle and traded as Lemerle-Charpentier & Cie circa 1870 to 1890. The company exhibited at the Exposition Universelle of 1878 in Paris, fusing 18th century taste with the highest standards of late 19th century bronze and metal work.
A PAIR OF GEORGE III GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE AND MARBLE 'APOLLO AND DIANA' FIGURAL CANDLESTICKS BY MATTHEW BOULTON, THE DESIGN CIRCA 1778 Standing figures holding scrolling arms supporting acanthus leaf collars, Diana with moon diadem, on gilt foliate banded swept marble bases, approximately 50cm and 50.5cm high respectively Design drawings for these figural candlesticks appear as a three branch candelabra in Matthew Boulton's Pattern Book, I, p.19, and utilise the symbolism of light-bearing Sun and Moon deities. Two pairs in this design are recorded as being included in Boulton's sale held by Messrs Christie and Ansell's 'At their Great Room, Next Cumberland House, Pall Mall' on the 16 May 1778, Lots 79 and 124. One of those two lots was probably the pair sold at Christie's London, 31st October 2023, Lot 18 (£75,600) Literature: Sir Nicholas Goodison, Matthew Boulton: Ormolu, London, 2002, p.184 & 187, and figs. 131.1 & 132.1-2. A REGENCY PLASTER FIGURAL LIGHT BY ROBERT SHOUT EARLY 19TH CENTURY Female figure in classical dress, right hand holding light aloft, incised inscription to reverse of plinth 'Publ 4th June 1818 by R. Shout, 18 Holborn London', also inscribed to dress to her back, now set on Regency style painted plinth the figure 94.5cm high (including shade), 164cm high overall Robert Shout and his father Benjamin worked together at their Holborn premises from the late 1770s to the 1820s and were recorded in Holden's London Directory (1806, 1807) as "statuaries, masons and plaster figure makers" and were noted for their production of "bronz'd" goods.
Y A FINE AND RARE PAIR OF GEORGE III SATINWOOD COMMODES PROBABLY BY SEDDON, SONS & SHACKLETON, CIRCA 1790 Each cross-banded overall in Amaranth, the breakfront D-shaped tops above a panelled frieze fitted with a drawer, above oval-panelled doors decorated with a group apple picking and the other of a shepherdess, enclosing a shelf, on taper-hermed supports, the gilt brass handles original each 83cm high, 81cm wide, 35.5cm deep Provenance: Acquired from Jeremy Ltd, London, April 1978 Thence sold at Christie's, London, Important English Furniture, The Collection of The Late W.N, Rumball Esq., 28th Nov 2002, Lot 65 (£50,190) These exceptional commodes, veneered in beautifully figured West Indian Satinwood, have indented and rounded columnar corners, in the French manner introduced to the Prince of Wales' Carlton House mansion in the 1780s, and illustrated in Thomas Sheraton's, The Cabinet and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, 1793. In his Appendix (plate IV) discussing pier tables 'for ornaments under a glass', he notes 'they are generally made very light, and the style of finishing them is rich and elegant. Sometimes the tops are solid marble, but most commonly veneered in rich satin, or other valuable woods, with a cross-band on the outside'. A satinwood and painted cabinet with similar French corners and taper-hermed legs, has been attributed to Messrs. Seddon, Sons & Shackleton (C. Gilbert, 'Seddon, Sons & Shackleton', Furniture History, 1997, fig. 27). The engravings on the offered lot depict attractive scenes of rural life, such as featured in the paintings of James Ward, R.A. ( 1769-1859). Condition Report: Both with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. The expected old chips and splits. A PAIR OF REGENCY MAHOGANY WATERFALL BOOKCASES CIRCA 1815 each 138.5cm high, 72cm wide, 25cm deep Condition Report: Old marks, wear, scratches and abrasions, some fading comensurate with age and useSome old chips, cracks and splits as expected for age and use. Some fading. The depth of each shelf (in order from the highest to the lowest respectively) is as follows: 10.5cm, 14cm, 14.3cm, 21.9cm, 21.9cm (Please note that due to the age and making of the item there is some minor variation in depths along the same shelf) Some additional old scratching and staining to the shelves as expected for age and use. Some scratches are quite deep. The exterior side panels (and to a degree the front edges of the shelves) are more faded to one bookcase than the other (due to previous placement in natural light etc) This could be resolved by a restorer if required as well as to the colour/ darkness of colour to any or all areas. Pair of Royal Doulton Burslem figures of female water carriers, 48.5cm high and 43cm highThe figure with a bird in her hand is missing a thumb. She has also been broken in half and restuck. The other figure is in good condition with some light wear to the gilding, the rim of the pot she is carrying has also possibly been restored.

Gucci black leather waist belt, with gilt metal 'GG' logo buckle, in a Gucci boxThe belt is approximately 82.5 cms , not including the buckle.The length including the buckle is 89 cms.The box is not orignal to the belt. Some scuffs and light scratches to the leather. The wear is mainly around the end where the holes are (see additonal image). The buckle has some light surface scratching. This is a fairly modern piece, possibly 1980s/90s.
Mount Blanc Meisterstuck fountain pen in casePen is in good overall condition. There are very light surface marks and wear to the case only, the case is mounted with gold coloured bands. The 14k nib is bi coloured in both yellow and white gold. It appears sound and free from damage also. The pen is currently not writing, we assume it requires new ink. Please see additional photographs.
Paul Cummins Tower of London ceramic poppy, one of 888,246 placed outside the Tower of London in 2014 to marks the centenary of the First World War, in original box with paperwork.There are a couple of very minor paint losses to the edges of the petals but the photographs pale areas is a light reflection.
Victorian sword stick with Malacca shaft, Damascene blade and horn crutch handle, with embossed silver plated collar and press button release. 86cm overall length, blade 52.5cm.Good original condition, blade has some light wear and light pitting . Some traces of blued decoration. Good tight fit to sheath. Chip to horn handle
19th century Sevres marquise shaped serving dish, decorated to the well with hand painted panel of birds in foliage on opaque white ground with further botanical sprays to the border on blue ground with allover gilded vignettes and garlands, interlaced device mark to the underside with letter X, 30cm diameter. Condition report: Chip to rim on right hand side. Light rubbing to gilded rim. Age related grazing to gilded decorations.
A large Indian silver bowl, circa 1900. Repousse decorated with figures and animals in landscapes and buildings, on a carved wood stand, height of bowl, height 17cm, diameter 31cm, 1483 grams. Brought back from India in 1916 by the vendors grandfather Thomas Reed Dawe. He retired as a Major in the 79th Carnatic Infantry. There are some holes to the body of the bowl, possibly done in manufacture as these are not on raised areas. There is a rusty mark to the interior which could be an old repair. There are some minor chips to the dog figures on the stand. The decoration on the bowl is very good and with very light wear.
