After Maurice Quentin de La Tour (1704 - 1788) Portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie", half-length, wearing armour, the Order of the Thistle on a blue silk ribbon and a lace cravat, his hair dressed a la mode oil on canvas, 77cm x 62cmLa Tour's pastel portrait of the Jacobite claimant was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1748, subsequently engraved by Michel Aubert (1700 - 1757), before the prince's banker George Waters lent it to Maria Anna Louisa Jablonowska, Princesse de Talmont (1711 - 1779) for several copies to be rendered between 1751 and 1752; the present whereabouts of the original portrait are as yet unknown. Condition Report: Re lined and touched up. 19th century Frame with knocks and losses throughout, areas of restoration, paint loss and cracking, etc, see images for examples. See attached images, Background has been touched up in several places, along with the ribbon and medal around the neck, possible touches to the face also, done to a reasonably high standard, however, it is noticeable in the light. An '18th century' oak dresser, dentil cornice above an arrangement of shelves, an arched niche and small drawers, the projecting base with three raised and fielded panel drawers, turned legs, 196cm high, 133cm wide (an old reconstruction of period timbers) Condition Report: 194cm high, 133cm wide, 46cm deep. Please see attached images. Some splits at angles of cornice, occasional bumped losses. Drawers running well. Some light losses. Nice colour, decorative and practical piece.

Government House, St. Michael Parish, Bridgetown, Barbados, circa 1830-50, watercolour on thick wove paper, the oval scene showing Government House and gardens with a native family group in the centre foreground, some light discolouration, 60 x 92 cm (23 x 36 ins), verre églomise border, period gilt gesso frame, glazed (Qty: 1)From the arrival in 1625 of the first English settlers led by Captain John Powell, Barbados was a British colony which quickly established across the island thriving sugar plantations supported by the introduction of the slave trade. Government House, built in 1702 as the main residence for a Quaker sugar plantation, was leased and bought by the British, and became the Governor's residence. The first colonial Governor of the island was Henry Powell, brother of Captain John Powell. Between 1833 and 1885, Barbados became the administrative centre of the newly formed colony of the Windward Islands, the present watercolour view showing the house and surrounding area as it would have been in the early years of this era.

The library of the Thorold baronets at Syston Park, Lincolnshire, was sold by Sotheby, Wilkinson and Hodge in December 1884.
