The body is decorated in a setting of trees and blue-green rocks that continues onto the reverse where an eight-character inscription, Xingyue jiaojie/Minghe zaitian "The stars and the moon shine brightly and clearly and the Milky Way hangs in the sky", is written above and to the side of another tree and bamboo. Portrait head of a woman with an elaborate coiffure, with the hair at the back parted in the middle and the two strands folded over each other and then pulled to the front to form a looped horizontal layer, then parted in the middle of the forehead and drawn to the back of the head, thereby forming ripples; individual curls represented along the forehead hairline up to the completely exposed ears; some modern infills to the forehead area above the left eye, both upper eyelids, both cheeks in the middle area, left nostril and the chin up to the lower lip; heavily cleaned. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by a search certificate number no.12464-228803.The coiffure is known as 'Scheitelzopf hairstyle' or 'reverse plait'. The closest parallel for this hairstyle is a portrait bust in the Palazzo dei Conservatori (inv. no. 2767), which corresponds in every detail, including the various decorative curls. The same type of hairstyle, albeit with variations in the details (decorative curls and position of the hair loop), is found on a few other portraits of women that were dated to the Period of Gallienus by Marianne Bergmann. Some of the portraits in this typologically related group are likely to be private portraits. Nonetheless, the question must be raised as to whether the portrait shows a member of the imperial family. Hereby physiognomic features and especially imperial coin portraits need to be taken into account. In this context, it is important to note that both eyeballs were reworked, whereby the iris was completely erased. Furthermore, there are pick marks on the eyebrows, eyelids, nose, cheeks, mouth and chin (partly filled in modern times). If these were intentional changes made in the context of the practice of Damnatio memoriae, they would indicate that a lady from the imperial family was represented. The neck has been prepared for insertion into a sculpture.

On 19 March 1923 Carnarvon contracted blood poisoning after accidentally shaving a mosquito bite infected with erysipelas. He died a few days later on 5 April, in the Continental-Savoy Hotel in Cairo. This unexpected and untimely death gave rise to the story of the 'Curse of the Mummy'. He is buried in a tomb at Beacon Hill, Hampshire and the family lives in Highclere Castle nearby. Highclere is the location chosen for the filming of the BBC drama series 'Downton Abbey'.

An early Victorian 18ct yellow gold black enamel and carved cameo mourning ring, inscribed 'Julia Hudson born 22 Dec 1812 died 10 Aug 1844', hallmarked for London 1844, size S, approx 4.4g.Condition Report: Overall the ring is in good condition, very clear hallmarks, clear inscription, very little wear to the band, looking at the enamel there are a couple of thin surface chips but this does not detract from the piece and is only visible really using a loupe, it is possible that the cameo plaque to the platform either had something surrounding it or is a replacement as there is a clear lip to the plaque frame and the oval cameo does not fit tight to this.

It retained the previous model’s basic profile but drew on the 993 for detailing. In addition, the new headlights reverted to the original bug-eye design. The interior was similarly revised, with strong links to the earlier 911 interiors while at the same time looking fresh and modern. Initially, two versions of the 997 were introduced, the rear-wheel-drive Carrera and Carrera S. In late 2005, Porsche introduced the four-wheel drive versions of the 997, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S which were announced as 2006 models. The 997 remains a worthy model of one of the most celebrated sports cars ever produced and also received a vast amount of positive reviews from the worldwide motoring press, with Jeremy Clarkson, a known detractor of Porsche cars, noting that the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul”.This example was purchased brand new by our vendor in 2007 and used initially for gentle commuting miles and then latterly only as an occasional weekend car. The car was used so gently in fact, that the brake pads all round are original, the front pads have around 9mm and the rears have 10mm left. The brake discs all round look almost unused, with no lip on the edges to note. The front tyres are even the originals, whilst these may be due for replacement due to age, this certainly shows the car has only covered very gentle miles as even after 21,584 miles, they still have a good amount of tread left on them. The rear tyres were replaced at 18,000 miles. This Carrera S was originally specified in Basalt Black, which gleams, with black leather interior, sports seats, Tiptronic gearbox, PCM, BOSE sound system, heated seats, rear wiper, multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, rear parking assistance, self-dimming mirrors and various other options. The history file is particularly comprehensive, containing all the books and manuals which were supplied with the car, including a hardback book about the 997, many bills and invoices, original purchase invoice and V5C registration document showing zero former keepers. The service book contains twelve stamps, all from Porsche main dealers, the most recent in November 2023, around 60 miles ago, an inspection video was produced at the time and can be forwarded to potential buyers upon request. This example is ideal for the collector who wants a cherished 997 which has been cared for by a single owner from day one or would be ideal for those looking for a modern classic to put into daily use, it ticks all the boxes.
