A GEORGE III MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCKThe dial signed Richard Marshall, LondonThe hood with ogee pediment and three brass finials, above arched glazed dial door and glazed sides, with fluted tapering uprights, the trunk inset with an arched panel door, flanked by fluted stopped quarter-columns, on panelled base and stepped plinth, the arched 12in brass dial, with strike/silent to the arch above silvered chapter enclosing a matted centre with inset silvered seconds dial and signature panel above the VI, the twin train rack striking movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell, dial/movement and case possibly associated237cm highCONDITION REPORTThe case has been restored at some point and is in good condition.  The trunk door is warped.  The gap on closing has been thoughtfully filled by a small fillet to the back of the arch on the door at the top and again on the bottom, so when closed no gap is visible.  Overall some marks, chips and knocks commensurate with age.  The two dolphin spandrels may have been changed as there is a vacant hole to each side just below the current holding screw.  There are also a number of other holes visible to the back of the dial. The movement does appear original to the dial.  However, the dial and movement may be associated with the case.With two lead weights, a steel and brass pendulum, one case key and a crank key.

With the finials removed the clock is 231cm tall to the centre of the plinth top.

He was clockmaker to George III from 1772 and was responsible for a number of important precision clocks made for royalty and the aristocracy.
