Albrecht Dürer (German 1471-1528), SAINT GEORGE ON HORSEBACK (B. 54; M., Holl. 56; S.M.S. 41) Engraving, 1505/8, a fair Meder B or C impression, with thread margins 107 x 84mm Provenance: Sotheby's, Old Master Engravings, Etchings and Woodcuts, 1966, lot 7. CONDITION REPORT: Overall good crisp impression. Foxing to the mane of the horse and to the head of the dragon. Very faint spots in the background. Slight horizontal creasing across the centre. Indistinct blue circular collectors stamp to the top right corner. Print held by two (presumed acid-free) tape to the top.
A pair of terracotta two-handled garden troughs, mid 19th century, by J M Blashfield, with basket weave decoration, both stamped 'Blashfield's Patent Pottery', 75cm long 19cm high (2) J M Blashfield's workshop was based in Millwall, Poplar, with a sales outlet at No. 1 Praed Street, Edgware Road, London. He later moved to Stamford, Lincolnshire, to be nearer the clay beds. He won medals for Terra Cotta at the Paris International Exhibition in 1867. One of his most important commissions was supplying architectural terracotta for the decoration of the new Museum of Fine Arts in Boston - unfortunately, this stretched his resources too far and the Stamford Terracotta Factory closed in 1875. CONDITION REPORT: Minor chips.
