A collection of assorted antique 19th century (and other) militaria / related items. To include a Brown Bess socket bayonet (rusted), 2x 19th century powder shot flasks in leather and brass, an antique shotgun cartridge making tool and a 20th century (likely WWII era) folding machete. Interesting collection.
Mixed Lot: German model 1884/98 knife bayonet, 1915-18 production, stamped to the ricasso with a crown and maker's name Erfurt (file cut to both sides of blade and lacking grips), length 38cm, together with an Indian WWII period machete with squared off single edged blade stamped GCF, 45 and with further stamped wooden grips, 497, and a further crude example with Government broad arrow, B44, length 49cm each, various dates and makers, (lacking scabbards) (3)
A scarce Vietnam War period Survival/Fighting machete, DE straight edge spatulate blade 7”, marked “The Stecher Haxit, Taylor, Eye Witness, Sheffield, England” with US, Canadian and British Patent Nos, at forte and “Chopping Edge” and “Cutting Edge” on each edge at tip, plain wooden grips secured by 3 steel studs, in its leather sheath with belt loop and hilt securing strap (broken). A 1943 Legitimus Collins & Co machete, No.1250, complete with sheath marked Carson Co. Ltd, dated 1940, together with a WWII Case XX machete bush survival folding knife (3)the machete fits the scabbard although slightly loose, machete is 1943 and the sheath 1940, so may not be original pairing
A British WWII Military Machete and Scabbard by Josh Beal & Sons, Sheffield, the blade stamped 'ENDURE JOSH BEAL & SONS CAST STEEL SHEFFIELD', the brown fibre grips are secured by five copper rivets through copper washers and two broad WD arrows on one face, 1941, there is a hole at the top of the machete to take a wrist lanyard, the scabbard is the standard British pattern made of leather with three rivets securing the belt loop to the scabbard mouth, the face of the belt loop is impressed with the stamp B.H.G. 1942.
AN INDIAN CHOORA DAGGER, 30cm heavy section blade with armour piercing tip, chiselled with foliage and deer at the forte, two-piece riveted bone grips, contained in a later velvet wrapped wooden scabbard, a modern white metal mounted Kindjal and a brass hilted machete, the hilt in the form of an eagle. An unusual Javanese or Balinese short machete wedung. c.1900, swollen SE blade 22.5cms chiselled with a pair of nagas and with extensive inscriptions on both sides including a magic square, dark hardwood hilt and sheath each silver mounted and all parts covered with inscriptions. A 19th Century Continental Percussion Belt Pistol, converted from a flintlock, the 12.5cm round steel barrel octagonal at the breech and inset with maker's poincon,the walnut stock with single steel barrel band, steel trigger guard and belt clip, the butt with foliate chased brass pommel (af); also, a leather shot flask, a Sudanese machete and leather scabbard, a French M1872 Gras bayonet and scabbard and an arrow (5). Pistol - action does not work. Pitting to metalwork. Brass butt cap would originally have had spurs which are now missing. Shot flask is damaged. Machet blade has nicks to blade edge and leather scabbard is scuffed. Gras bayonet has pitting to scabbard.
