Hammond detailing the action "On June 15th Captain John Irvine's armoured observation post was blown up by a mine and he became separated from his troops, he obtained another truck and on his way to rejoin the guns found a second troop engaging some tanks. He manned one gun until it was knocked out and after seeing to the evacuation of the Commander who was wounded, Captain Irvine took charge and for five hours under continual shell fire reorganised the depleted detachments and supervised the evacuation of the wounded".
