Brigade at Fort Polk, Louisiana from 15 June 1969.Posted to United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) on 16 August 1969 he saw service in Vietnam from 6 September 1969 as part of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in the role of an Indirect Fire Infantryman (Mortarman) with the 2nd Battalion 8th Cavalry Regiment (Airmobile).1st Air Cavalry Division 1969 -1970In late 1968, the Division moved and set up operations in III Corps at the other end of South Vietnam in late 1968. They were still there when Operation Cheyenne Sabre began in areas northeast of Bien Hoa in February 1969. Their actions here were to prove decisive and by the end of the year the enemy's domination of the northern areas of III Corps had been smashed - thoroughly. When Operation Rock Crusher was launched on 1 May 1970, the First Team was "First into Cambodia" hitting what was previously a Communist sanctuary. President Nixon having given the go-ahead for the surprise mission. They pushed into the 'Fish Hook' region of the border and occupied the towns of Mimot and Snoul whilst troopers scattered the enemy forces, depriving them of much needed supplies and ammunition. The men of the 2nd Brigade found an enemy munitions base that they dubbed 'Rock Island East' on 8 May. The Mission to Cambodia, ending on 30 June, far exceeded all expectations and proved to be one of the most successful operations of the First Team. All aspects of ground and air combat had been utilised and the enemy had lost enough men to yield three NVA divisions and enough weapons to equip two divisions. Further successes included a year's supply of rice and corn seized, uncommonly large quantities of ammunition taken, including 1.5 million rounds for small arms, 200,000 anti-aircraft rounds and 143,000 rockets, mortar rounds and recoilless rifle rounds. As well as 300 trucks, a Porsche sports car and a plush Mercedes Benz sedan. The campaign was to have severe political repercussions in the United States for the Nixon Administration however and pressure was mounting to remove America's fighting men from the Vietnam War. Although there would be further assault operations, the war was beginning to wind down for many troopers.Posted away from Vietnam on 5 September 1970 Scovil began his return to the U.S.A. on 22 September 1970 and on 11 October he was an Indirect Fire Crewman with the 6th Battalion of 32nd Armour based at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he completed his Army service on 8 April 1971.Sold together an original archive comprising:(i)Combat Infantryman Badge(ii)Air Assault Badge(iii)Valorous Unit Award 1st May - 29th May 1970 for "Fish Hook" region Cambodia(iv)Dress Cap Badge(v)Specialist 4th Class patch (2)(vi)Riband bar for uniform(vii)1st Air Cavalry Division patch(viii)8th Cavalry patch(ix)8th Cavalry cap badge(x)Assorted copied research which shows various service details including medal entitlement.(xi)Safe Conduct Pass(xii)A further set of uniform medal ribands…

1988 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC Coupe. reg no. E812 MUW, family owned from new, (5 registered keepers) and approx. 93,254 miles from new with history. This attractive Mercedes Coupe was purchased new by the vendor's father in 1988. He had it finished in a very desirable specification of dark blue with cream hide upholstery. He had the car well maintained by Mercedes' main agents and in later years used Derek Wells Mercedes Specialists in Needham Market, Suffolk. In more recent years, the car was laid up, and after his death, his daughter instructed Derek Wells to recommission it for her personal use. Between 2019-2022, there are various invoices for this work from Derek Wells totalling approximately £16,000, and from completion of the work, an extra 10,000 miles has been covered during her ownership. In recent months, the vendor's beloved Mercedes has been in dry storage, and reluctantly owing to her emigrating in the near future, she has decided to sell it. The overall condition is very good, and it is running and driving, although there is scope for further improvement. In particular to the chrome work and refinishing of the wheels. It is rare to find a 500 SEC with relatively low miles and only two owners, and particularly one which has had so much money lavished upon it and with such a good provenance. It is supplied with V5, handbook, stamped service book, various invoices and related ephemera. (Subject to 12% buyers' premium inclusive of VAT). Please see condition report for further information: Since the printed catalogue was published we have obtained the full documentation for the car which was held by the owner, the V5 is showing 4 former keepers (5 owners total). The owner has provided us with the following explanation.“My father was involved in a lengthy litigation regarding his previous business. The vehicle was signed over to an Insolvency Company, it was then popped back under my father, it then reverted to the Insolvency Company, the matter was then resolved and put back under us. In all of that time, the vehicle remained with my father. “Therefore whilst the car has been in her family from new it is not a 2 owner car as previously stated. In addition we can confirm the following entries in the service book…17/4/89- 5,414 miles10/7/90- 8,711 miles 21/6/91- 17,735 miles30/6/93- 22,150 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)24/3/94- 30,545 miles 26/8/94- 38,672 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)23/11/94- 42,161 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)16/3/95- 47,080 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)8/9/95- 55,528 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)23/1/96- 60,858 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)28/5/96- 65,257 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)8/5/97- 66,292 miles8/5/98- 73,269 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading)28/8/07- 82,056 miles (although this is recorded under the oil viscosity heading) The current mileage is also confirmed by the MOT history of the car.

The car was registered in February 1990 and the MoT is valid through to June 2025. The vendor tells us that the car runs and drives well and has been used for longer trips around the UK (including on business) as well as trips to car shows. There is an occasional ‘lazy tappet’ tick at start-up, which goes away when the engine is warm. He further tells us that the car has been very reliable over the last 40,000 miles/3.5 years. Recent work has included renewed suspension arms, bushes and dampers, rebuilt gearbox, new cooling system, new battery and alternator, new air conditioning compressor, dryer and condenser, new exhaust box, new engine mounts, new steering pump, new heater blower, new fuel injectors and electro-hydraulic actuator, two new electric window regulators, re-upholstered front seat and refurbished wheels. The vendor has spent around £14,000 in the last 3.5 years to bring the car up to its current condition. Paperwork includes the V5C and a copy of the previous one plus invoices, MoT certificates and the book pack with owner's manual, UK and European dealership directories and the service book with entries up to 163,202 miles in August 2012 (although there are invoices for servicing beyond this).
