Book of Bomber Command Heroes, an extraordinary WWII interest autograph book. 230 autographs including Many DFC, AFC MID medal holders. Sadly over 80 were killed and many shot down and held as POWs. Comes with hundreds of pages of research on all the autograph. A unique collection of autographs, poems, sketches collected by schoolboy Raymond Harry Spalding, who lived close to the RAF bases at Mildenhall and Lakenheath in Suffolk. His personal autograph album contains over 230 signatures, dated between March 1941 and November 1942, from Bomber crews serving in the Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and volunteers from the USA. Most of the crews have signed together on the same pages, adding their aircraft call signs (e.g. O Orange, T Tommy, N Nuts, V Victor, C Charlie, P Peter, D's Crew, U's crew) and their ranks/roles e.g. Flying Officer Pilot, Sgt Bomb Aimer, Navigator, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner, Front / Rear Gunner & Observer. Some have added their Squadron. Most are from 149 and 115 Sqns with others from 419 and 57 Sqns. Some have added their own personal touches in the form of poems verses, proverbs, comic remarks and drawings which include Pinocchio, Goofy, a Wellington Bomber and a Flying 'Jumbo' elephant. Others have added words of wisdom for young Raymond. On several pages, there are some army signatures, 149 Sqn was involved in the famous wartime propaganda film "Target For Tonight" which was filmed at RAF Mildenhall in 1941. The signatures include Sgt William McCabe (rear gunner) who featured in the film, with a pasted-in contemporary news clip stating he was now training to be a pilot. Names include.
