79cm clean fullered blade etched with scrolling foliage, ropes, crowned fouled anchor and crowned Royal arms, regulation brass gothic hilt incorporating a crowned fouled anchor, folding side guard, lion's head pommel, wire bound fishskin grip, in its engraved brass mounted leather scabbard, complete with knot, together with a Third Reich Kriegsmarine officer's dagger by Eickhorn recovered from the U110, together with a quantity of research detailing Dodd's account of his service aboard HMS Bulldog and to include a letter of provenance detailing how the sword came into the collection from Dodd's family before it was subsequently sold as lot 109 in Bonhams Antique Arms and Militaria auction of 12th December 2006.
circa 1780, 10inch sighted octagonal browned barrels signed Wogdon LONDON, geometrically engraved breeches, foliate engraved barrel tangs, border engraved stepped and bolted colour hardened locks signed Wogdon, full stocked with border and foliate engraved blued steel mounts, the trigger guards with acorn finials, in their green cloth lined oak case, the lid with Chippendale handle, complete with cleaning rod, turnscrew, mould, correct flask and mainspring clamp. These guns are in very good condition with most of their original finish and virtually unmolested stocks. Provenance: See Sotheby's London, Arms, Armour and Militaria, 8th Dec 1988, lot 358.

ALFRED CROWDY LOVETT C.B.E (BRITISH 1862-1919): A SKETCH BOOK CONTAINING INDIAN MILITARY FIGURES, INDIAN PERSONNEL, UNIFORMS AND GENERAL MILITARIA CIRCA 1880'SA total of 30 pages of drawings, pages 19cm x 13cmAlfred Lovett was an army officer commissioned into the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1883, and he was promoted through the ranks to Brigadier General. He was posted to India with his regiment as a lieutenant in 1883, initially in Karachi. He then moved to Poona, Ahmedmagar, Bombay and Narisabad. He commanded the 1st Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment with the BEF in 1914. He was appointed Brigade Commander in the First Division and made Companion of the Order of the Bath, and awarded CBE in 1919.While in India, Lovett illustrated an important book written by Major Macmunn, 'Armies of India' published originally in London by A&C Black in 1911.Lovett died from illness aged 57 years old and is buried in Scarborough Manor Road Cemetry, North Yorkshire.He was a very talented artist, painting landscapes, Indian Army uniforms and soldiers and his work is held in the Royal Academy.Provenance: British Private Collection.
