Lyle Tayson (American, 1924 - 2014) "Leatherworker Craftsmen" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Canvas. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which appeared on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 13c Leatherworker stamp issue of July 4, 1977. During the Colonial era, leather was one of the most widely used materials. It was used for boots, shoes, coats, gloves, aprons, belts, harness, and many other things. Belts drove simple machines and served as valves in pumps. When America's War for Independence started, the need for leather for military use increased at once by leaps and bounds. The leather harness, for instance, pulled artillery guns and wagons. And, to protect fragile paper musket cartridges from dampness or damage, leather was used to make stiff waterproof cartridge boxes. Every soldier needed one, for damp cartridges could lose battles. As the army grew, more leather was needed. The constant cry from commanders in the field for supplies was not always heeded, but civilian craftsmen, and Leatherworkers in particular, were responsive when possible. To increase production, they shortened the tanning process, producing only slightly inferior leather. In their own shops they worked long and hard, knowing that in the army men went without shoes. These civilian craftsmen answered freedom's call as fully as soldiers and sailors. They, too, risked their lives and their fortunes as collaborators of rebellion. Image Size: 26 x 20.75 in. Overall Size: 30.25 x 24 in. Unframed. (B05136)

Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "C-17 Globemaster III" Signed lower left. Original Acrylic painting on Cold Press Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 32c C-17 Globemaster III stamp issued July 19, 1997. The C-17 Globemaster III is the world's most advanced military airlift aircraft. An ingenious design forces engine exhaust onto large wing flaps, resulting in slower landing speeds and permitting safe landings on short runways. The Globemaster III is currently in production and has broken 22 world records, including short-takeoff-and-landing. Image Size: 16.25 x 13.75 in. Overall Size: 19.75 x 15 in. Unframed. (B15648)

Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "Antonov 124 On Approach to Landing" Signed lower left. Original Acrylic painting on Cold Press Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Born near Moscow, Russia, on February 7, 1906, Oleg Antonov designed his first full-size aircraft while attending the National University at Saratov. After graduating from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1930, Antonov went to Moscow where he helped establish the Central Design Bureau for Gliders. With the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Yakovlev Design Bureau and worked on military aircraft. At war's end, Antonov established his own design bureau at Novosibirsk where he produced the single-engine An-2 biplane, one of the world's most versatile and enduring general purpose aircraft. In 1952, he relocated his organization to Kiev in the Ukraine and began work on the larger An-10 and An-12 multi-engine turboprop aircraft. Both served Aeroflot and the Soviet Air Force for many years in the harsh meteorological extremes of the far-flung Soviet Union. Over the next several years, Antonov produced a number of successful turboprop transport aircraft ranging in size from the eight-passenger An-14 to the huge four-engine An-22 that set several payload-to-height records in 1966. His An-124, the world's largest production aircraft, was a crowning achievement of a long and distinguished career. Image Size: 16.25 x 20 in. Overall Size: 16.25 x 20 in. Unframed. (B16209)

With a wing span of 222 feet, 8-1/2 inches and an overall length of 247 feet, 10 inches, the C-5 Galaxy is one of the largest aircraft in the world. The military transport plane's huge drive-through cargo bay is capable of accommodating 98% of the range of equipment used by the U.S. Army, thus enabling it to deploy troops, helicopters or tanks almost anywhere in the world.
