An early 19thC portrait miniature by R.C. Woolnough, dated to the reverse 1801, containing a lock of hair, yellow metal frame, 9.5cm high By family repute the sitter is thought to be a midshipman Harrison, a sailor on board Nelson`s Victory between 1803 and 1805. He was however not thought to be in service at Trafalgar.

A Georgian yellow metal mourning pendant in fitted leather mounted case. Finely painted with an ivory portrait miniature of a woman, with guilloche enamel and lock of hair verso. 8cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Very good condition. Three small spots of surface spores/mildew raised from the surface, should be possible to delicately clean these away. The ivory is free from any cracking, the paint free from wear and excessive fading. The metal and enamel are free from faults. The case with some wear but certainly presentable.

Henry Bone RA (1755-1834): After Sir William Beechey, Portrait Miniature of Samuel Whitbread the Elder, bust length, wearing a brown coat and frilled collar, oval, 9cm by 7.5cm, framed Samuel Whitbread (1720-1796) was the owner of London`s biggest producer of beer, producing 202,000 barrels in 1796. Whitbread was an MP from 1768 until his death in 1796. For a similar miniature see National Portrait Gallery, npg.6603 which is possibly also the example sold by Christie`s, King Street, 6.11.01, lot 280 Good condition. Old paper label covered by more recent paper label to reverse. Unexamined out of frame and so may be signed to reverse. 011014
