Make & Model:Morgan , 4/4 Date of Reg:WEC109Y Colour:Blue cc:1584 Fuel Type:Petrol Mileage:57866 Transmission:manual Summary:The previous owner of this Jubilee 1584cc Morgan 4/4 two-seater owned it for 26 years. It was registered in October 1982 and has had five registered keepers since then. The odometer shows 57,866 miles and the last MoT expired in November 2020 after being tested the year before at an indicated 57,268 miles. However, as an historic vehicle, it is now MoT-exempt. It features an aluminium body, composite wings and leather seats, Fiat twin-cam engine, walnut dashboard and hood and tonneau. Recent work includes new tyres, a reconditioned Weber carburettor, new plug leads, Varta battery, starter motor, windscreen wipers and the rear brakes overhauled. The car has been little used between 2020 and 2025; the vendor suggests it will need a general checkover and service. It is running and driving but the vendor notes that the exhaust silencer is a little noisy as are the alternator bearings (but the system is charging). The front brake offside inner piston is also slightly tight. Paperwork includes the V5C, a Haynes workshop manual for the Fiat 132 (for engine information), a few invoices and MoT certificates, a print-out of the MoT information back to 2006, radio instructions and a couple of brochures. There's also spare keys too.

With its 1950 Plus 4, Morgan moved upmarket in size, weight, power and price. The British manufacturer realised it might lose some potential customers but was happy to live with the situation for a while. By mid-decade though, the Plus 4 had become more potent and Morgan felt it should, again, field a lower-power car. This explains the revival of the Morgan 4/4 though it was completely different from the car that carried that title during 1935-1950. In fact, the new 4/4 was closely related to the Plus 4. The main difference was engines, purchased from Ford instead of Triumph. The re-born 4/4 began production in 1956 and ran all the way through until 2018. Like other Morgans, it always had the same chassis design, body construction and styling, a kind of technological time warp that customers keep coming back for. Morgan built old-fashioned cars the old-fashioned way and vehicles of that nature just won't be hurried. This handsome 1600cc 4/4 was first registered on 1st May 1980 and is presented with cream coachwork which has recently been repainted and a contrasting black hood and trim. This example is offered with V5C registration document and an invoice for the recent repaint and five tyres. We are informed the underside has recently been treated to preserve it for future years. The four seat configuration of these Morgans makes this a very practical example with the additional wet weather gear perfect for those summer drives to members club meets or touring the great British countryside. Registration No: EX 6915 Chassis No: D236 MOT: ExemptJAP-engined V-twin MorganSubject to a comprehensive body and engine overhaul in 2003Affectionately known as 'Castrol' and previously displayed at the Haynes International Motor MuseumIn need of light recommissioningAn ingenious concept, HFS Morgan built his first three-wheeler in 1909. Based around a tubular steel frame, its low centre of gravity and advanced 'sliding pillar' independent front suspension endowed it with excellent road-holding. Progressively developed, the single rear-wheel-driven platform played host to a variety of JAP, Matchless, Blackburne, Anzani and Ford powerplants over the years (though, the prototype used a Peugeot unit). Fearsome competition cars, Morgan three-wheelers driven by the likes of HFS himself, Clive Lones and Harold Beart acquitted themselves well on race circuits and trial stages alike (Mrs Gwenda Stewart recorded 115.66mph during a record run at Montlhery in 1930). An evolution of the JAP powered Aero model, the Super Sports appeared in 1927. By 1933 Morgan's three-wheeler chassis could be ordered with four types of body, namely: Super Sports, Sports Two-Seater, Sports Family and Family. The Super Sports was notable for its chromium-plated exhaust pipes that run the length of the body. Interest in Morgans of this period has never waned and, if anything, increased in recent times - the company's inspired decision to create a modern three-wheeler having brought the early cars to the attention of a new audience.Built in 1933 and fitted from new with an 1100cc water-cooled JAP V-twin engine, little is known of the early history of chassis D236. However, a note from a previous owner suggests that the sporting three-wheeler was laid up during World War II and remained off the road until 1952, when it was subject to a rebuild and registered as ‘EX 6915’ which has been retained to this day. Evidence suggests that the car was used for racing during the years between its first rebuild and acquisition by the previous owner in 2010, and a recent chance sighting of a photograph of the car at a sporting event was found by our specialist hanging on the wall at the Fox & Hounds pub near Godstone, Surrey attesting to this.A note on file from the previous owner shows that the car was subject to a second complete overhaul in 2003 and painted in the current colour scheme of Castrol Green & Red, which resulted in the two-seater becoming fittingly known as ‘Castrol’. Upon acquisition, it was noted by the previous owner that the JAP engine was fitted with a racing camshaft, which was swapped back to a standard camshaft to make it more usable on the road, along with the fitment of electronic ignition and a new Amal carburettor. Such was the standard of ‘Castrol’, that in 2019 it was chosen by the Haynes International Motor Museum to be on exhibition with several other Morgans to represent the marque. Unfortunately, the previous owner’s age meant that his collection of Morgans ended up being laid-up for several years and when they needed to be sold off the vendor stepped in and purchased ‘Castrol’ and a more modern 2012 stablemate as non-running projects. A significant lack of time now means that both cars will be sold at our Buxton auction and are both offered 'as found' by the vendor in non-running condition in need of mechanical work, although it is noted by the vendor that both cars’ engines turn over and roll freely. The vendor has also noted that the bodywork is very straight, although cosmetically the paint and chrome has suffered from storage and may need some work if perfection is sought.Seldom do these pre-war three-wheelers get offered at this price level as they remain incredibly sought after. We feel that ‘Castrol’ would make a very rewarding project for any prospective purchaser. It is offered with a history 'write-up' from the previous owner and its UK V5C Registration Document. Registration No: WJH 681T Chassis No: B4244 MOT: September 2025Showing a warranted c.17,000 miles on the odometerBenefitting from an extensive restoration in the mid 2000sA bounty of invoices, books, MOTs and spare parts included in saleSubject to previous interior re-trimIntroduced in March 1968, the '1600' was notable as the first Morgan 4/4 model to offer 100mph plus performance. Based around a box-section chassis equipped with independent 'sliding pillar' front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and disc/drum brakes, its traditionally constructed thin-gauge metal over ash bodywork contributed towards a commendably low kerb weight (circa 700kg). True to the marque practice of using proprietary running gear, the newcomer was powered by a Ford-sourced 1599cc four-cylinder crossflow engine allied to four-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission. Initially available in basic or 'Competition Model' guises, the latter's Ford 1600GT (86bhp) unit was standardised during 1971. With its evocative styling, characterful interior and involving driving experience, the 4/4 1600 proved a beguiling proposition.Displaying a warranted c.17,000 miles on the odometer, ‘WJH’ was first registered on 8th August 1978 and was the subject of an extensive restoration in the mid-2000s. It was 2006 that Melvyn Rutter Ltd prepared a significant list of areas that required attention upon which a process of addressing them was initiated, and at a significant cost. The Morgan required a full interior refresh along with an engine overhaul and attention paid to the handbrake, bumpers, exhaust, tyres, battery and alternator, in all totalling 189 hours of labour and costing over £15,000. Some 3,000 miles has been covered since the work.In 2024, the Morgan benefitted from improvements and upgrades that included an electronic ignition kit, 4 plugs and a coil at a cost of £339, £900 spent on the repair and respray of the bonnet and £275 spent on a 'tune-up'. There is an amount of MOT paperwork included, evidencing the mileage history of the car. The last paper MOT was at 13,805 miles in 2005, the oldest on file, a 1984 MOT, shows 1,897 miles. There is a quantity of invoices, books, MOTs and spare parts included in the sale, along with a copy of the original handbook. This attractive Morgan was registered in January 2005 and was the first production roadster lightweight from the world-famous Malvern manufacturer. It was designed primarily for racing while still being an excellent road car. It raced primarily in the Morgan Challenge race series which consisted of between ten and twelve single marque races. It also competed in the MG Thoroughbred Championship, the Birkett Relay and the British Heritage Relay. This successful Morgan has won class podiums in nearly every race and has an extremely enviable race history which includes three times overall winner of the Morgan Challenge, seven times winner of the Powertorque Roadster cup and overall winner and several class podium positions in the annual six-hour Birkett relay team race. In 2011 the car was lent to celebrity driver Jo Woods for the Silverstone Classic charity race and was involved in a racing accident. What followed was a complete rebuild from the chassis up by the Morgan factory, resulting in a car as good as new. This lightweight roadster and its desirable record are well known in racing circles and rightly so. The file for this car is as impressive as its record on the track and contains invoices with a combined value in excess of £45,000. This handsome Morgan is offered to auction with a V5c registration document and an MOT test certificate valid until March 2025 and is ready for track, hill climb or just a fun trip to the pub. #50 of 60 special 60th Anniversary Plus Four Super Sports models, uniquely presented in Gulf Motorsport colours. The Morgan Plus 4 was the company’s most popular model since its launch in 1950 and represented the sweet spot within Morgan’s diverse and celebrated range of models, possessing more power and performance than the contemporary 4/4, whilst retaining a level of fuel economy that made it ideal for long-distance touring. A versatile and well-balanced sports car, the Plus four became a Morgan institution, before being superseded by the all-new Plus Four in 2020.Chris Lawrence and Richard Shepherd-Barron’s admirable win in the 2-litre GT Class at the1962 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Plus Four was the inspiration for Morgan’s creative marketing department to suggest a limited edition 60th Anniversary model based on their then current third generation, 2-litre Duratec-powered Plus Four. Only 62 examples (1962) would be built each, carrying a numbered metal plaque displaying the unique build number and would feature a number of design/styling cues from the Le Mans winner. On offer here we have car #50 which has been owned and enjoyed by our vendor since 2017 and has covered just over 19,400 miles from new. It’s finished in Iris Blue (one of the six ‘launch’ colours available) which is very similar to Gulf Blue (328), an early 1970s Porsche colour adopted by Gulf Oil Motorsport, with Gulf Orange (019), as their signature colours. The Morgan’s first owner chose to enhance the Iris Blue bodywork with orange detailing and Gulf decals and we believe that this is the only 60th Anniversary car so finished.#50 is powered by a 2-litre, 16v, variable cam, four-cylinder running Jenvey throttle bodies and offering 200bhp. Motorsport underpinnings comprise an LSD, Panhard rod, uprated exhaust system, shock absorbers, anti-tramp bar, brake reaction bars, an aluminium front under tray, and black Minilite centre-lock wheels with 3-eared spinnersOther features include black leather heated (on a Morgan!) bucket seats with embossed headrests, engraved Banjo steering wheel, Tawny-wood dashboard, net door pockets and glovebox, stop-watch timing clocks, a heated screen, Pioneer stereo with USB input, an 'Anniversary Plus Four Super Sports' numbered badge, bonnet scoop with full louvres and bonnet pins, flat back panel with louvres and a Le Mans filler cap. Inclement weather is kept at bay by a 9-stud screen and hood and a Tonneau cover.Above its normal servicing, the Morgan had a full nut and bolt and electrical check-over in August 2019 by marque specialist, Richard Thorne and again in 2023 when a new clutch master cylinder was fitted. More recently it’s also had plugs, a new ECU and the throttle bodies balanced.Surely one of the most evocative Morgans of recent years with sound motorsport provenance and ready to be enjoyed.Specification Make: MORGAN Model: PLUS FOUR Year: 2012 Chassis Number: SA94420K2B5004773 Registration Number: CN12 FKE Transmission: Manual Engine Number: E3962029JP Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 19409 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black leatherClick here for more details and images
Offered to market from its first and only keeper, having covered a mere 2,200 miles from new, this 4/4 is surely the best one of its kind. The Morgan 4/4 was first introduced in 1936 and remained in production for 83 years until 2019, making it one of the longest running production models in automotive history earning both the model and the manufacturer a spot in the Guinness Book of Records. The 4/4 maintained Morgan’s ethos by being traditional, lightweight and dynamic with a box-section ladder-frame chassis mated to a traditional body construction with an aluminium skin over an ash wood frame. In 1993 the 4/4 was offered with Ford’s 1800 Zetec engine which was faster, cleaner and more frugal than its predecessors. With a kerb weight of just 868kg, a revvy DOHC engine and rear-wheel drive, this British built sports car was everything Morgan wanted it to be.Finished in Indigo Blue over Stone leather, this delightful 4/4 presents in exceptional condition, commensurate with its warranted ultra-low mileage of just 2,200 miles from new. Additionally, it is a one-owner vehicle, still showcasing the factory chalk marks on the hood. The vendor had to wait nearly ten years after submitting the initial order form to receive the car due to high demand and the hand-built nature of Morgan. It comes with the original order form from Mike Duncan Morgan agents, confirming that P522 NOE was specifically ordered in Indigo Blue with Stone trim, complemented by blue piping, blue carpets and stone piping, and a Walnut dashboard. Included with the vehicle are various documents, such as old MOT paperwork, the original order form, the handbook, sales brochure, and the current V5C Registration Document. The vendor personally collected the car from the factory and is now offering it for sale having cherished and evidently adoring the car for 27 years, but due to the impracticalities of a small, low sports cars the car is no longer able to be driven comfortably, so the time to move it on has arrived. With a lovely specification that complements the car well, this 4/4 represents serious value with every collectible box ticked.Specification Make: MORGAN Model: 4/4 Year: 1997 Chassis Number: SA94418004DO9834 Registration Number: P522 NOE Transmission: Manual Engine Number: H6033 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 2500 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: TanClick here for more details and images
Make & Model:Citroen, AX GT Date of Reg:H925PPW Colour:Grey cc:1360 MoT:2025-04-02 Fuel Type:Petrol Mileage:34400 Transmission:manual Summary:Now a rare machine, this Citroen AX GT was registered in August 1990 and has an MoT through to April 2025. Its odometer reads 34,400 miles, which is believed to be genuine - there is a service record through to 1994 (at 15,793 miles) after which there's a gap until the MoT in March 2011 at 31,804 miles. However, the car was known to be in storage for several years. The car's originality extends to the original dealer plates and tax disc holder on the car (Duff Morgan of Norwich) as well as a dashboard with no cracks, which is rare for a MkI AX. It has received a respray at some point prior to the vendor's ownership. Recent work includes a new cambelt, water pump and head gasket in 2023, while the last service was in May 2024. The Citroen is reported as running and driving well, albeit with the vendor noting that the heater blower only operates on speed setting 3 (a common AX issue, which is resolved by replacement of the blower motor resistor pack).Paperwork includes the current and past V5C, MoT certificates back to 2011, assorted invoices, some old tax discs and a brochure. There's also the book pack with owner's manual, Blaupunkt radio instructions, Citroen dealership directory and service book with five stamps, the last in May 2024 at 34,133 miles.

Registration - P812 RYRChassis No. - SA944200004T09831M.O.T. - February 2025Odometer - 41,214 Beautifully specified and presented in Connaught Green, this example of Morgan’s 4/4 is offered at no reserve. Under the hand-sculpted bonnet sits a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Rover sourced engine, which drives a five-speed manual gearbox. The four-seater convertible sees the deep green paintwork complemented by wire wheels, and a green canvas roof sitting above a traditional black leather interior with walnut dash and wood-rimmed steering wheel. It is offered with full wet-weather gear – sides, doors, and windows.Specified with clock, rubber-backed carpets, aerial and speakers, front spotlights, sports seats in the front, and pleated seats in the rear, and rear-mounted luggage carrier, ‘P812 RYR’ was well kitted-out by the original owner. The original bill of sale from 1996 is included, as is a huge A4 folder, filled with invoices and receipts of work carried out. The Morgan was a Category D insurance write-off in 2007, but has since been repaired. The indicated mileage is 41,214 miles, which is not guaranteed, but is supported by a pack of MOT certificates with the car. Described as in good condition in general, the vendor says that a respray would boost this 4/4 to the next level. However, the bodywork, paint, and interior are all considered in ‘good’ condition, while the engine, electrics, and transmission are rated ‘excellent’.Beautifully specified Morgan 4/4Classic four-seater convertibleOffered at no reserveMorgan proudly claims that the 4/4 was the longest-running production vehicle in the world, having been introduced in 1936, and only ceasing production in 2018. And little changed in terms of design from 1955, when the Series II was launched; styling remained largely the same from then on. Morgan used 4/4 Series monikers up to V, and then labelled its models by engine size, with a wide range of engines used over the decades, from Ford Kent units and Fiat Twin-Cam engines, to more modern Ford Zetec powerplants. The four-seater option of Morgan’s classic roadster was halted in 2018, with no successor as yet.
Registration - YK66MGWChassis No. - SA94420K2G0004141M.O.T. - March 2025Odometer - 13,600With famously long waiting lists, Morgans are real collectable cars, and this 2017 Plus 4 is a particularly desirable example. Finished in classic Royal Ivory with Imperial Red leather interior, it has not only been garaged all its life, but also kept in an air chamber – and the vendor says it has only been used on dry days, borne out by an odometer reading just 13,600 miles. It benefits from paint protection film as well. A further highlight is that it features the very rare extra-wide body. It has had just one owner since new, and comes complete with full mohair weather equipment including a screen bag, tonneau and hood cover. It also has aero racing mirrors, stainless steel door check straps, clear front indicators, luggage rack, headlamp stone guards and a bonnet strap (which is currently not fitted). ‘YK66MGW’ features a 2.0-litre Ford GDI engine that produces 154bhp. It has a five-speed manual gearbox, and things are made easier for the driver by the rare fitment of power steering. It has Performance sports seats with lumbar adjustment, and they are also heated. The walnut dashboard forms part of an interior that’s described as being in ‘excellent’ condition – indeed, the whole car is described by the vendor as being ‘excellent’. The car comes with two keys, and the vendor adds it has SSL front suspension that benefits from new chrome king pins. Naturally, it also has a full and very comprehensive service history. The Morgan Plus 4 is a long-running model that has been produced in various periods throughout the Malvern firm’s history. The powerful two-seater first ran from 1950 right through to 1969, before being revived between 1985 to 2000. This car is a third series model, reintroduced in late 2005, powered by a Ford Duratec engine. Original models produced 145bhp but this car is a later version, producing 154bhp. 1994 Morgan Plus Eight Registration Number: 202 ASM Chassis Number: R11148 Recorded Mileage: 81,380 - Rare opportunity to own a one owner from new Morgan Plus 8 - Recently rebuilt engine, always maintained to the highest standards - Splendid combination of Connaught Green over Tan Leather Placing a V8 engine in the front of the traditional Morgan roadster was a wonderfully barmy idea in the 1960s. The Plus 8 was Britain’s fastest-accelerating production car for a time and proved so endearing that it remained on sale, in relatively little-altered form, until midway through the 2000s. Although Rover's attempt to acquire the Morgan Car Company in 1966 was unsuccessful, the company did grant Morgan access to its lightweight aluminium V8 engine, originally from Buick. Race engineer Maurice Owen quickly saw the potential and fitted the engine into a Morgan Plus 4 chassis. After successful trials in 1967, the Plus 8 was officially unveiled at the 1968 Earls Court Motor Show. Over its long production run, the Morgan Plus 8 has retained its classic look, with only subtle changes like wider wheel arches for larger tires. However, beneath the surface, it has evolved significantly, gaining better gearboxes, fuel injection, rack-and-pinion steering, improved corrosion protection, and modern features like airbags and catalytic converters. Despite these updates, the Plus 8 remains a true Morgan, cherished by enthusiasts as a quintessentially British classic. It's a car that consistently earns accolades at shows featuring 1960s and 1970s classics. Purchased new by the vendor from F.H Douglas in Ealing, West London, the original factory specification certificate is present (Signed by Charles Morgan). Options from new included: Tan Leather, Walnut Dash, Galvanised Chassis, left hand door mirror and rust proofing. The Morgan is equipped with the celebrated 3.9-liter Rover V8 engine, a staple of the Plus 8 range in the 1990s. Producing around 190 to 200 horsepower, this engine delivers strong acceleration and that unmistakable British V8 roar, making the driving experience as thrilling as it is nostalgic. Later cars are powered with more modern BMW powerplants, but some say the true Plus 8 experience is still to be had lodged behind the thunderous Brit-engineered Rover V8. We’d hardly disagree, having experienced this fine car, which gives all the thrill you’d hope for from a true V8 Mog. The Plus 8 has been thoroughly cherished and enjoyed since new by its only owner and is in fantastic overall condition, reflecting meticulous care and maintenance over the years. The car has seldom seen wet weather, and the galvanised body has fared fantastically. The bodywork is straight and true, and the glorious Connaught Green paintwork exhibits a deep, glossy shine. The odometer shows 81,380 miles, and the car is in excellent mechanical order. Clearly thoroughly enjoyed and regularly shaken down, fastidious servicing has ensured that this Plus 8 runs as beautifully as it looks. The original engine was fully rebuilt and reinstalled earlier this year by a respected marque specialist, and is running beautifully. Other recent updates include a new Simons hood. A splendid example of British craftsmanship and tradition. With its striking presence and undeniable charm, this Plus 8 embodies the quintessential spirit of the classic roadster—the ultimate post-vintage hot rod. Ready to give many years more enjoyment to its new owner, the Morgan is supplied with a service record and documentation, valid MOT and UK V5C.
The Morgan Plus 4 was the Morgan Motor Company's first car with four wheels, introduced in 1936 following the end of production of the famed three wheeled motorcycle engine models. Its model designation ‘4-4’ (later ‘4/4’) stood for four wheels and four cylinders. Apart from a break during World War II (and the period March 1951 to September 1955) the 4/4 has been in continuous production from its debut right up to the present day. The Plus 4 is a larger and more powerful version of the Morgan Motor Company's 4/4 model and was made between 1950 and 1969, 1985 to 2000 and was again revived in 2005. Always a popular choice for sports car enthusiasts across the globe, the combination of the typically British 1930's styling with its flowing wings, modern performance and reliability have ensured the Morgan is as popular today as it ever has been.Presented in desirable Dove Grey with PPF and with perforated black leather seats and Morgan wings logo embroidered head rests in contrasting stitching and sitting on black wire wheels including a spare. This Ford engine GDI 1,999 cc (2014 to 2020) example presents as new, a lovely example of a Plus 4 that not only has a number of optional extras but benefits from the SSL front suspension upgrade. The equipment added to the car includes 2 eared spinners, round door mirrors, clear front and rear indicator lenses, front and rear over riders, tread rubbers, front driving lamps, chassis rail covers, polished stone guard, silver front mesh grill and coloured Union Jack bonnet badges. Inside the car boasts a Moto Lita black leather steering wheel, radio/CD/MP3/Aux. input audio system, elasticated door pockets, Sun visors, Chrome rear view mirror door check sets and leather trim details. Registration No: 501 UYR Chassis No: 105E115195 MOT: Exempt • Well known historic racer with ownership history from new • A previous Goodwood Revival entrant • 1500cc pre-crossflow engine • Mechanical overhaul in 2020 with over £15,000 worth of expenditure Ford's fourth and last Anglia - the 105E - broke cover in 1959. The styling displayed a strong American influence and included a sweeping nose, notchback rear window, and muted tail fins. The newcomer benefited from an equally new engine, a 997cc OHV straight-four unit codenamed ‘Kent', versions of which powered all manner of Fords for years after. It was mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top three ratios. The suspension was by MacPherson strut at the front and leaf-sprung live axle at the rear. Motorsport is engrained in the Blue Oval's DNA and the 105E Anglia played its part in the company's competition history, including winning the 1966 British Touring Car Championship. Chassis ‘105E115195’ is a well-known example, that was converted into race car specification in 1997 and has previously belonged to John Smith, JF Toplis, Ralph Forbes, Andy Baillie, Nick Morgan, John Atkins, Alex Postan, Grahame Bryant, and Peter Kennerly, and competed in many rally and race meetings; including the Goodwood Revival in 2001 and 2003. Its roof once carried the signatures of 52 drivers, including Sir Stirling Moss, Gerry Marshall and Win Percy, although none are now visible. The Anglia is accompanied by a large history file including previous ownership records, previous FIA papers and HSCC identity form, restoration photos, technical information, a collection of invoices and MOTs, and sundry paperwork. Benefitting from a significant mechanical overhaul in 2019 – 2020 with over £15,000 worth of expenditure, the Anglia received a full engine overhaul of the 1500cc pre-crossflow engine completed by Gathercole Race Engines (invoice included in the images), a new underslung pedal box, and a full brake kit from Burton Power. In current ownership since 2022, the 105E been used on track once in his ownership, after a thorough preparation. ‘115195’ would now benefit from a tune before any future competition, but represents a reasonably priced entry into historic racing. Past President’s neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel, privately engraved to reverse ‘The Rt. Hon. The Lord Strathcarron President 1974’, good very fine and better (5) £300-£400 --- David William Anthony Blyth Macpherson, 2nd Baron Strathcarron, was born on 23 January 1924 and was educated at Eton. He inherited the Barony upon his father’s death in 1937 and flew with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, reputedly serving with Coastal Command on reconnaissance and search-and-rescue missions over the Atlantic Ocean at the height of the U-Boat campaign. Demobilised in 1947, he continued to hold a private pilot license until the 1980’s. As a young man Strathcarron was fascinated with and in awe of the motor car; bought a Morgan Super Sport for his sixteenth birthday, he took up motor racing after leaving the R.A.F., driving vintage cars from his own collection including Alfa Romeo’s, Austin Healey’s, Bentley’s, Jenson’s and Riley’s. Appointed Motoring Correspondent of The Field, he founded an automotive supplies business in 1960 and three years later wrote a fine account of his experiences in motor racing, titled Motoring for Pleasure. He later won the Lord’s versus Commons motor race at Brands Hatch in 2000, aged 76 years, further adding to his accolades by bagging the fastest lap. During his time in the House of Lords, Strathcarron took an active interest in many motoring issues. As Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Motorcycling Group he took great pride in working with the Motor Cycle Industry Association to create a system of compulsory basic training for learner motorists, introduced in December 1990. It was further said that he usually voted with the Conservative Party, but barely spoke about politics. Outside of Parliament, Strathcarron busied himself as President of the Guild of Motoring Writers and was involved in the British Racing Drivers’ Club. He died on 31 August 2006, seven weeks after a motorcycling accident involving a dustcart; the Daily Telegraph later fondly described Strathcarron as: ‘an engaging amalgam of Mr Punch, Bertie Wooster and Mr Toad.’ Sold with copied research and a hardback copy of Motoring for Pleasure, the inside page bearing Strathcarron’s signature and adding: ‘Beaulieu 1993., Written 1963.’
