Bears letter dated July 1985 verso, 'Just a note to explain the painting the contents of which are all symbolic not being an actual place. I think the picture is a powerful one but a restful subject to live with - will you please try it for a week or so and if you find it unsuitable just let me know and I will try something else. Bears inscription verso 'As yet I have no title for this painting - it is really just an industrial scene containing the little things that appeal to me - terraced cottages, a mill or two and I still think trams are a good way to introduce human interest. I have made the mood a peaceful one, sort of late evening with the last of the sun just catching the mill tops. This is not an actual place but the buildings are based on some early drawings that were made in the Ancoats area of the city but the bend in the road was pure imagination to make the composition a bit more interesting. I only mention this to you so you won't go looking for the place, Sincere Good Wishes, Arthur P.S. Why don't you give it a title?' Below this is written 'Trams On A Bend'

Inscribed verso 'Here is a painting I call "THE TERMINUS" It is a composite picture based on a distant memory of those areas north and east of the city (Middleton-Oldham etc) in the old cotton trade areas where people were always coming and going and it was usually wet underfoot. Although no particular place, it has a little human interest and as you know I like painting mills & tramcars and it is my most popular subject. Please live with it a few days and if its not to your taste I will gladly change it, Sincerely Arthur Delaney'
