CHARLES JONES (1836-1892) "Sheep resting by Riverside, a figure with cattle in the background", oil on canvas, signed centre left, bears "Cider House Galleries Limited London" label verso 71.5 cm x 92 cm CONDITION REPORTS Has had significant areas of re-painting especially to the sky, bottom right hand corner as well as various places throughout. Has been re-lined and has several brown marks throughout, crazing and repair to crazing, surface scratches etc. Some areas of gilding along the frame line, the frame itself has cracks and some losses to the moulding etc - see images for further details
JOHN H E PARTINGTON (1843-1899) "Four young girls on a beach by cliff, a ruin on a promontory in the background", oil on canvas, signed and dated 1885 bottom right, 66.5 cm x 102 cm CONDITION REPORTS Has had areas of touching up throughout. Areas of crazing and cracking evident throughout. Several areas of dirt and re-painting where the paint has flaked. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. The frame has various splits and chips etc to the gilding and generally. Appears to have been re-lined - see images for further details.
A FOLLOWER OF MARMADUKE CRADDOCK (1660-1717) "Peacock and other exotic birds and turkeys in a landscape", oil on canvas, unsigned, 113 cm x 129 cm CONDITION REPORTS Has had two repairs, one to the top centre, the other to the bottom left hand quarter. Various areas of touching up to the crazing etc - visible under UV - this is pretty much all over. The painting has been re-lined, there is crazing throughout and is in need of a clean. There is wear to the outside edges, light surface scratching. Frame has cracks, flaking, chips etc. General wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for further details
EDWARD CHARLES WILLIAMS (1807-1881) "Shepherd and Shepherdess with sheep, dog and sheep in distance", oil on canvas, signed bottom right, bears "Cider House Galleries" label verso, 56 cm x 86.5 cm CONDITION REPORTS Has large areas of restoration in three places, especially two in the sky and one to the middle left hand side of the painting. It has also had various infilling to the crazing which is pretty prolific. Shepherd, shepherdess and dog have also received some attention as have other patches throughout - see images taken under UV. Generally in need of a good clean - has had some re-painting. There are marks where it appears to have rubbed against the frame on the edges. Has been re-lined - general wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details. 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Lady in blue dress", study of a lady with brown ringlets in a blue dress with foliate patterned shawl, her left hand bearing bangle with large sapphire, oil on board, unsigned, 63 cm x 74 cm CONDITION REPORTS She has various areas of touching up and restoration to the painting as a whole including filling-in of crazing. There is particularly an area to the left hand side of her ringlet to her forehead and to the right hand side above her puffed-up sleeve. The picture has also been re-lined. Generally crazing and cracking throughout and rubbing to the outside edges. General wear and tear to include some light surface scratches etc and dirt. Frame has chips, knocks and bruises etc all over - see images for further details.
ALFRED ELSWORTH (1845-1919) "Turkeys and geese by a farm gate", oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889 bottom left, 77 cm x 128 cm CONDITION REPORTS There is an area of re-painting/touching up to the turkey in the most foreground underneath its' neck. Has areas of crazing throughout, a couple of sports of dirt, general wear and tear and there is a cracking line at the top approximately 2 cm down in line with the stretcher on the other side. It has been patched in three places, one from the turkey in the foreground as discussed another just to the left hand side of its beak and the other at the top at the right hand side within the brick wall. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use. The frame is dirty, the gilding is flaking in places, light chips, knocks etc all conducive with age and use. JOHN THOMAS SERRES (1759-1825) "Naval engagement off Leghorn", various shipping outside harbour with walled city in the background, hills rising in the distance, oil on canvas, unsigned 53.5 cm x 76 cm CONDITION REPORTS There is a large black mark to the centre of the painting just to the right of the taller mast of the ship when seen under UV light. There are also a couple of dark marks to the bottom edge and the top right hand corner. There is a crack running in a straight line approximately 7 cm from the left hand side of the picture, crazing all over. There is also a crack to the right hand side approximately the same distance apart. Generally in need of a clean, spots of dirt in various places. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. Has been re-lined. The frame has crazing to the gilding with various losses all over - see images for further details. Provenance: Local private deceased Estate
