This copy bears the nameplate of Thomas Taylor, Sawrey with pencil note on endpaper 'Beatrix Potter’s copy probably purchased locally, which I bought from Capt. Duke Castle Cottage Sawrey, who assured me that the title page (Plate1) was coloured by B.P. (Beatrix Potter)' a faint pencil note beneath reads 'from the stock of Herman Wilkinson in Cumbria' with his annotation above 'Wilkinson made many purchases of Potter items from Capt. Duke c.1966' [similar family books sold at Christies 1997 New York]

Whilst we have no reason to doubt we cannot authenticate any of the signatures.Sadly there is a small hole centre which is spurning a tear of two lines approx 2cm, two further small tears to the lower portion and some creases to the edges.
