Florence Nightingale. The Every-Day of Life by J. R. Millar, various passages highlighted with blue pencil, original cloth, 8vo, London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1894 The half-title is inscribed, 'This book belonged to Florence Nightingale and the marks in it are hers. It was sent to me in the winter of 1912 by Mr Bonham Carter, Mary Juliana Pyne.' A further inscription reads, 'Given by me to Dorothy Cubison, May 11th Whit Sunday 1913, M.J. Pyne.' Loosely inserted is the pencil signature of Florence Nightingale removed from another work. Provenance: Mary Juliana Pyne (1841-1927) was a hospital Matron who corresponded with Florence Nightingale concerning career matters and with her support secured a key position at Westminster Hospital in 1880. *CR extremities and boards worn, cover partly detached.

Rackett/by David Garrick', contemporary calf, spines tooled gilt, folio, Paris: Chez Desaint & Saillant, Durand, De l'Imprimerie de Charles-Antoine Jombert, 1755-1759. Thomas Rackett (1757–1840) was an English clergyman, known as an antiquary. At the age of 14 he recited to David Garrick the latter's ode for the Shakespearean jubilee and Garrick presented him with a gilt copy of it. Next year (1771) Garrick gave him a folio copy of Shakespeare with a laudatory inscription. This copy carries a pencil note that records it was sold at Sotheby's on December 2nd, 1920, for £445.00. *CR Occasional light spotting and rust-marks, volume 2 with pp.104–105 with margins soiled, rebacked preserving original spines, extremities lightly worn.

A group photograph of the participants gathered outdoors at the Imperial Conference of October-November 1926, signed by 39 of the 40 members, including Stanley Baldwin, A.J. Balfour, Austen Chamberlain, W.T. Cosgrave, Kevin O'Higgins, W.L. Mackenzie King, and others, the photograph by Bassano (signed in pencil below the image), 227 x 292mm, laid down on card, 454 x 510mm, in a later glazed frame, 65cm x 55cm overall.
