Three pairs of Derby figures 1780 -1800, modelled as dancing musicians on scrolled bases, incised marks to bases including numbers 10 / 3 and 301, and number 60 (4) the tallest figure measures 13.5cm high Condition report: Both figures of ladies have been broken and restuck, one is missing both hands, the other is missing one hand. The flute player is missing on hand. The bagpipe player lacks the top of his pipe. All figures have small typical losses and chips and enamel flakes. The standing pair of figures both have lost one hand each, there is a chip to the gentleman's hat.
A DISTRESSED TINPLATE HORSE BUS, no makers marks, may be scratchbuilt, appears hand painted, red and yellow and black livery and sign written for Highfield Park and Rudyard ?, Highfield Park Races for 1868 from Cartwright St, some damage and paint loss, length approximately 15cm, with a tinplate pull-along railway carriage, no makers marks, would appear to be scratchbuilt, maroon and black livery with opening door to each side, some damage, wear and paint loss, length approximately 15cm, on flanged wheels, gauge approximately 8cm, with a vintage wooden tumbling acrobat toy, a damaged Schuco tinplate clockwork toy, a small wooden pipe and the remains of two Hornby O gauge clockwork locomotives, No.2 4-4-0 engine in L.M.S. black (chassis only) and possibly No.2 4-4-2 special tank locomotive, in L.M.S maroon, both are distressed, but may yield some spare parts, no keys (7)
Charming Military Sword Built for a Child in 1844, slightly curved pipe back blade etched GEOe. SAMl. PARE 1844 FORGET ME NOT within a foliate banner, false edge at tip, pierced semi-basket iron guard of Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Undress type, iron gripstrap with stepped pommel, fish skin covered grip with silver wire binding. Blade 22”, overall 26.5”. Good condition with excellent black age patina overall.
Scarce 1822 Pattern East India Company Officer’s Sword, pipe back blade by Parker, London etched with EIC lion, foliage and a series of vacant banners [left blank for presentation] on both sides. Regulation gilt brass hilt, large EIC device in guard, folding side-guard, wire bound fish skin covered grip. Blade 32.5”. Good condition, some age wear overall, hilt slightly distorted.
Rare 19th century Italian Officer’s Sword, pipe back plated blade signed G.Perez, Verona, and deeply etched with crowned VRI cipher together with extensive military trophies, large iron guard pierced and engraved overall with foliage and incorporating the crowned VRI cipher, plain iron grip strap, copper wire bound fish skin covered grip, in its plated steel scabbard with 2 suspension rings. Blade 85cms. Good untouched condition, blade retains virtually all its original plating, some wear to scabbard plating. This sword was possibly produced for an Italian bodyguard for Queen Victoria during one of her visits to Italy, but we have not been able to 100% confirm this.
Victorian 1845 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword, gilt brass guard with crowned VR cipher to the centre, gilt brass pommel and back strap. Original grip with copper wire binding. Fold down clip to the reverse of the guard. Plain slightly curves pipe back blade measuring 81cms. Some surface staining and pitting to the blade and evidence of polishing. No scabbard.
Flintlock Holster Pistol by Fowler c.1820, 20 bore octagonal barrel with open sights, stepped signed lock with roller bearing frizzen spring, iron trigger guard with pineapple finial, silver lion’s head buttcap (not H.M.) horn tipped ebony ramrod with steel worm. An 18th century diamond-set, carved quartz and gold mounted horse's head snuff box, unmarked, possibly by the widow of the jeweller Louis Buyrette, Berlin circa 1760, the shaped-oval quartz cover with gold hinge mount decorated with a guilloche band on a base carved as the head of a horse with diamond-set eyes and gold bridle with diamond tips to the bit, height 7.5cm, length 6.8cm. Provenance: The Arnold and Barbara Burton Collection, Bonhams, New Bond Street, 18 June 2014, lot 7. With Wartski 1975. Bonhams' footnote reads as follows: The possible attribution to the widow of Louis Buyrette is due the similarity of selection in stone, carving and eye mounts to a series of dudlesack (German bag pipe) boxes, examples of which could be seen these rooms (Bonhams) 19 June 2013, ex-lot 68, and the Collection of Baron de Redι and Baron Guy de Rothschild, Sotheby's Monaco, 25-26 May 1975, one of which is illustrated by Snowman, plate 624. In plate 655, Snowman illustrates another carved hard stone animal head box that has very similar cover mounts.
A Dutch silver and enamel oval snuff box, C H maker's mark, possibly for Cornelius Herberts fl. 1710-59, the cover set with an enamel plaque painted after David Teniers with a tavern scene of three men taking snuff, drinking and smoking a pipe, the sides with a narrow ropetwist border to the top and bottom, 9cm across.
An 18th century silver and enamel snuff box, unmarked, rectangular form, the hinged cover applied with three dancing figures, gilded interior, the inside of the hinged cover with a finely painted satirical plaque of a well-dressed lady smoking a long-stemmed clay pipe and wearing a cocked hat with a red ribbon cockade, a winged putto behind her wearing a similar hat and sash, writing on a piece of parchment the words 'Je n'ιnrτle que des volontaires', length 6.7cm.
