A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE 'DRAGON' BELT PLAQUE LATE MING DYNASTY The oblong body carved in relief to one side with a dragon winding its body through swirling clouds and flowering lotus, its bulging eyes gazing intently at the sacred pearl it pursues, the reverse concave and with eight small holes for attachment, the stone of an even tone with some minor inclusions, 10.4cm. Cf. Christie's New York, 14th September 2017, lot 725 for a related Ming plaque carved in openwork with a confronting dragon.
A CHINESE WHITE JADE OPENWORK 'DRAGON' PENDANT MOUNTED AS A NECKLACE 20TH CENTURY The circular pendant carved as a fierce dragon twisting its body amidst swirling clouds, the plaque mounted in enamelled silver decorated with flowers and a butterfly, all suspended from a necklace comprising of forty-nine pale celadon jade beads, the pendant 5.5cm, 38cm overall.

A TIBETAN REPOUSSE POLYCHROME AND GILT-COPPER PLAQUE DEPICTING NAGARAJA 14TH/15TH CENTURY Nagaraja (the Naga King) depicted as an anthropomorphic deity, his head framed by a canopy of three serpents, he brandishes a sword and holds a flaming chakra, an ancient Indian weapon, his expressive face framed by dark hair and surmounted by an ornate three-pronged crown, he wears a fine dhoti and sumptuous jewellery including sacred thread, the serpent deity surrounded by flames highlighted with traces of red pigment, together with a modern stand, 31cm, 441g. (2) Provenance: from a French private collection, acquired in the 1980s. Cf. The Albuquerque Museum, Tibet: Tradition and Change, p.118, pl.59 for a similar 14th century repoussι image of Nagaraja from the Densatil Monastery, Central Tibet, in the Zimmerman Family Collection. Naga is the Sanskrit word for 'serpent'. In Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, naga are semi-divine beings which are half-human and half-snake. They can assume wholly serpentine or anthropomorphic forms and often serve as guardians and protectors to humans. A brass plaque from a lifeboat found adrift during WWI off the Sinai Desert, details verso, framed 18th/19th century coins, a Polish axe, a military sword and a pair of brass serpent-form candlesticks (5). CONDITION REPORT Blade of sword approximately 90cm and fairly heavily pitted throughout. Pommel is secure, but there is definitely 'jiggle' present.
A brass ship's clock, the painted dial set with Roman numerals and marked 'Chadburn's Ltd Liverpool' with secondary dial, mounted on a wooden plaque, dial diameter approx 15cm.
