An original WWII Second World War medal group belonging to N. J. Surkitt, Seaman in the Royal Navy. Medals comprising of: 1939-1945 Star, The Atlantic Star, The Defence Medal & War medal. All on their original ribbons. Also included in this lot is a collection of personal effects belonging to Surkitt to include; Continuous Certificate of Discharge book, Gunnery History Sheet, Certificate of Discharge from TSS Maunganui, The Festival of Britain HMS Loch Alvie photograph, photographs of himself with his fellow shipmates, and on parade, along with The Gunnery Pocket Book & 1932 manual of Seamanship. Good collection.
A fascinating and charming Victorian Methodist Preacher's diary. Written by a Fred S. Howard c1900, from Bristol . Written within a ' Primitive Methodist Pocket Book ' from 1900, the diary largely mentions locations and passages that were preached, as well as comments on size of the congregation etc. Locations include; Air Balloon School, Warmley, Speedwell, Brislington, Wesley Chapel Kingswood, and various others of local interest. Some more interesting entries include; 'Mon 24th Dec 1900 - Committed a big sin, and determined not to repeat it again.' Makes for some fascinating reading. Rare.
An original WWII Second World War medal group belonging to a Phillip Davey . Comprising of his War Medal, Defence Medal, Italy Star, Africa Star (with 1st Army bar), and 39-45 Star. All with ribbons, on bar. Also included with the lot is a small photograph showing Davey and comrade, his identification tags, various cap badges, a Sweetheart type brooch (with photograph of Davey) and his military issue pocket watch (AF). Good collection. Consigned directly from the family. LATE ADDITION: 20:33 15/3/18: The vendor has also found Davey's miniature medals which have now been added to this lot.
*R.N.A.S. WWI group of three to 2nd Lieutenant S.T. Fowler, Royal Naval Air Service Later Royal Air Force who played a vital role in the sinking of SMS Konigsberg on 11 July 1915, 1914-15 Star (F.4655 S.T. Fowler. A.M.1. R.N.A.S.), British War and Victory Medals with M.I.D. oakleaves (F.4655 S.T. Fowler. P.O.M. R.N.A.S.), extremely fine, mounted for wear and presented in a period frame, glazed together with an archive relating to the recipients military service and engineering career including Temporary Commission certificate dated 13 October 1919 (2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force), a WWI watercolour of Short Seaplane No.1087 with Fowler and a Flight Lieutenant, the mount inscribed 'SHORT SEAPLANE N.1087. Grain to Plymouth. June 5th. 1917. Flt. Lieut V.R. Scriven. Petty Officer S.T. Fowler.', artist monogram lower right, 19.5 x28cm, framed size 32 x 39cm with details of this trip to verso, pocket diary kept by the recipient for the period of January to June 1916 with approx. 50 pages inscribed in pencil including diagrams another for 1915 (Siemens Brothers issue), pocket notebooks for 1917 and 1918, Soldiers' Pay Book for Use on Active Service dated 1915, manuscript list of Signal Signs in envelope addressed to Mr Fowler R.N.A.S., G.R. Army Book with memoirs written by the recipient in later life, a photograph album compiled by the recipient for service in East Africa, containing approx. 130 snap shot size black and white photograph, many captioned including J.T. Cull Station Commander RNAS, 14.5 x 8.5cm, Caudron GIII aircraft, Maktau, Tauga Campaign, Lieut Watkins Pilot with Major Keen Observer, aerial reconnaissance over Taveta Camp (taken by Gull with his own camera), a photograph of Miss Anne Louise Fowler (recipients sister), newspapers, magazines including The Air and Sea, January 1917 etc 2nd Lieutenant Sidney Thomas Fowler (1871-1970) was born in Bexley, Kent, prior to his military service Fowler worked at Bexley Power Station but in May 1915 he joined the Royal Naval Air Service where he played a small part in the sinking of SMS Konigsberg on 11 July 1915 in East Africa where he carried out work on one of the seaplanes which took part in the sinking of Konigsberg. The photograph album included in this lot has photographs of many officers and friends who Fowler served with including Flight Commander Cull who was the pilot of one of the spotter planes involved in the attack and which crashed after it was hit by enemy fire. Both Cull and his Observer survived after being picked up by a small boat, an extensive eyewitness account of this action written by Fowler is included in the lot. (a carton)

1937 Alvis 4.3-Litre. Dated December 1937, a 12pp brochure for the model, with monochrome pictures of component parts, rolling chassis, specifications and prices. The rear pocket with two double-sided styling cards. The front cover is a little rubbed. Also, a 1935, multi-fold brochure for the 'Silver Eagle' Sixteen, fully opening to reveal blue-tinted pictures of body styles and prices. A little scuffed on the edges. (2)

*Mason (Frederick Howard, 1901-1930). An archive of material relating to the life and career of Imperial Airways mechanic Fred Howard Mason, including approximately 270 postcards, circa 1900/1920s, many real photo postcards featuring aircraft and Mason himself, many of the postcards written to Mason as he was growing up from his family and then many from Mason to his parents and sister in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, including approximately 90 postally unused postcards of aviation interest, together with over 200 postcard-size and smaller mostly family photos, some of aviation interest and featuring Mason, plus a pilot's logbook "No. 2" covering the period 1924-26, six small and worn pocket diaries of earlier dates, various certificates and documentation, including marriage certificate, will, pilot's certificate, various teacher's certificates and related, plus a small group of letters and manuscript documents, plus various Air Ministry and HMSO printed reports for air estimates, etc., eight technical engine manuals and similar, etc., largely unsorted but the postcards loosely contained in four modern plastic albums Fred Howard Mason died at the age of 29 while working as a mechanic for Imperial Airways, when the Handley Page he was travelling in stalled and crashed in fog after an engine fire at Neufchatel, Boulogne, France. *Police Tunic. WWII German Issued Police Tunic (for former Waffen-SS Member), issued service blouse for Police service men, of green wool construction with aluminum pebbled buttons. Retains its collar tabs and shoulder boards. Shows slight overall use and retains a period applied insignia for former Waffen-SS member under the left pocket, made from a green wool backing and featuring the SS insignia in bullion, marked on the interior with maker and size Rare example.
