Jebens ». И. С. 98-99. (№74) Adolph Ivanovitch JEBENS (in Russland genannt als GEBENS) (Plehnendorf, Ostpreussen 1819 – Berlin 1888) Porträt eines reitenden Kosaken des Leibgarde-Ataman-Regiments. Um 1857 (Terminus ante quem). Öl auf Leinwand, doubliert auf Karton. Rahmen. Größe des Bildes 44,2 X 35,5 cm. Rückseitig bezeichnet : "Ad. Jebens".

Blake (Col. J.Y.F.) A WEST POINTER WITH THE BOERS 8vo (210 x 150 mm) A Personal Narrative of the Commander of the Irish Brigade. 411 pages, frontispiece portrait, many illustrations, green cloth with a photograph of Blake mounted on a horse laid on upper cover, edges uncut. Front hinge has been simply repaired and is holding firmly, the cloth on the spine is bubbled, overall a good copy. Many of the Irish Brigade were, like the author of this memoir, Irish Americans who were both anti-English and anti-Imperial. Blake`s memoir covers the first part of the war in Natal and the subsequent guerrilla phase in the Transvaal. His account is, despite its extremism, one of the best written by a foreign volunteer serving with the Boers. Blake was, like De Villebois-Mareuil, a frustrated idealist who was in conflict with the temper of his age. He died in a hotel room in New York in 1907 and is thought by many to have committed suicide. Good Boston Angel Guardian Press 1903 Reserve: $100 Click here to view further details and to bid

John Hutchinson A BOTANIST IN SOUTHERN AFRICA 252 x 160 x 40 mm An account of the author`s botanical expeditions to various parts of Africa. Hutchinson`s background as a botanical specialist from Kew was well known, and in South Africa he was given a very friendly reception by eminent South African botanists. But it was his association with General Smuts, who was also a botanist of note, that makes this book so interesting. Smuts accompanied him in the Northern Transvaal and across the Limpopo to Zimbabwe, and in Tanganyika (Tanzania). Pages i-xii pp 1-686. Frontispiece portrait of General Smuts. Copiously illustrated with black-and-white photographs, sketches, line drawings of botanical details. Folding maps. Full page maps to indicate regional distributions and the regions visited by the author. Dark green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Slightly scuffed at base of spine. Illustrated Dust jacket has cracked on folds but has been neatly repaired with brown and white paper reinforcements. Front and back endpapers are browned but the rest of the book has no apparent foxing. This is an unusually interesting book in Very Good condition. Theodore Roosevelt (October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919) was the 26th President of the United States(1901–1909). He is noted for his exuberant personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement, as well as his `cowboy` persona and robust masculinity.[4] He was a leader of the Republican Party and founder of the first incarnation of the short-lived Progressive (`Bull Moose`) Party of 1912. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt`s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician.
