Elle était l'une des stars de la série télévisée Dynasty, qui représentait une vie de luxe, avec des hommes et femmes flamboyants portant de somptueux bijoux, un maquillage spectaculaire et tous habillés dans les costumes les plus coûteux. Joan Collins était l'une des femmes les plus belles et célèbres d'Amérique, voire du monde, adorée par des millions de personnes. Nagel fera son portrait comme Warhol d'ailleurs...Il aime travailler en studio avec ses modèles vivants et sélectionner le meilleur cliché sur la planche contact (comme Warhol). À partir de là, il réalise le dessin préliminaire. Il manie les couleurs à l'aide de pinceaux fins et de peinture acrylique, pour donner l'essence électrique de la personne. Le regard, le rouge à lèvres glamour, les boucles d'oreilles géométriques, les blazers surdimensionnés, les gants sans doigts et la pose provocante définissent cette génération emblématique de 'playmate' et de célébrité. « Lorsqu'il m'a photographiée pour la première fois, il m'a confié que mes lèvres étaient le trait le plus remarquable de mon visage, qu'elles semblaient avoir leur propre anatomie. Jamais mes lèvres ne se sont senties aussi nues. Il avait une façon d'analyser chaque détail pour mieux les révéler ensuite sur la toile. Il capturait l'essence même de ses sujets d'une manière à la fois glamour, glorifiée et simple. » Joan Collins.Les femmes de Nagel sont fortes, sûres d'elles et heureuses d'être des femmes. Elles sont devenues l'incarnation de l'Amérique de ce que devait être la femme idéale. Nagel mérite sa place parmi les plus grands artistes des années 1980 aux côtés de Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Tom Wesselmann et Andy Warhol. La pureté que nous trouvons dans ses 'Mona Lisa' et sa façon de transmettre la puissance distinctive de son modèle en un minimum de lignes importantes, fournissent son style unique dont il est le pionnier. Nagel a travaillé pour Budweiser, Intel et les cigarettes Lucky Strike aux États-Unis et dans différents pays du monde, mais c'est son travail pour le magazine Playboy qui a rendu son travail familier à tous les hommes qui parcouraient les pages du magazine, en particulier dans la section Playboy Advisor. Le service artistique de Playboy faisait confiance à Patrick pour fournir une illustration qui fonctionnerait. Aucune de ses peintures n'a jamais été rejetée. Il est aussi connu par le groupe de musique pop Duran Duran, pour lequel il a dessiné la couverture de l'album Rio, qui a été acclamé comme l'une des plus grandes couvertures d'album de tous les temps. L'œuvre de Nagel rappelle également les gravures sur bois japonaises, la silhouette figurée sur un fond neutre, avec de fortes zones de noir et blanc et des angles de vue inhabituels et une perspective forcée. Au début des années 1980, son succès augmenta de mois en mois. Il était devenu un phénomène dans le monde de l'art et ses expositions se vendaient en 15 minutes, il était l'un des artistes les plus populaires, réussis et influents au monde.
