PLATTERS THE: Vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph by all five members of the American vocal group of the early rock and roll era comprising Tony Williams, Herb Reed, David Lynch, Paul Robi and Zola Taylor (the 'Mercury Classic' line-up of 1955-59), the promotional image depicting them in head and shoulders poses together. Signed by each in blue inks to clear areas of the image, Robi with his surname only and Taylor with her first name. Very slight traces of former mounting to the corners of the verso which also features a printed discography. VG
STRAUSS RICHARD: (1864-1949) German Composer. A.L.S., Richard Strauss, in German, to a postcard photograph, Garmisch, 23rd December 1908, to Filip Kester, in German. Strauss thanks his correspondent for the photographs received `Thank you for your beautiful photographs which I have received with great pleasure..´ To the front image showing Strauss´ house at Garmisch. EISENSTEIN SERGEI: (1898-1948) Soviet film Director and film Theorist. Best-known for his film Battleship Potemkin (1925). Rare A.L.S., to a postcard, Alburquerque, 13th June [1930-31], to Monsieur Renaud de Jouvenel, Paris, in French. Eisenstein states `At the foot of this altar, I pray for you my dear little Renaud.´ To the colour front the postcard shows the interior of a well preserved church in the Indian Pueblo of Isleta, New Mexico, only thirteen miles from Alburquerque. Postmarked and post-stamped. G to VG Renaud de Jouvenel (1907-1982) French Writer, Polemicist and Journalist. Eisenstein travelled to US in 1930 after accepting a contract of Paramount Pictures, but after six months of disagreements, both parties declared the contract null and void. Eisenstein then, and before returning to Russia, accepted a private investors proposal and travelled to Mexico for the filming. It is during this period that Eisenstein sent the present postcard.
PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) Italian Composer. Signed 5.5 x 3.5 postcard, `Puccini´, one page, Paris, written in purple fountain pen ink, dated `Giovedi´, (`Thursday´), 8th November 1906, to Pavone, in Italian. The letter is addressed to Pavone, a Ricordi representative in London, where his opera Madama Butterfly is being performed. Puccini wants to know how is his opera welcomed, stating `Come va il teatro costí..´ (“How is the theatre going there?”). Puccini sends this postcard from Paris where he has travelled to meet Pierre Louys and work on a new libretto `Qui andremo fra un mese, se dice bene!!!´. Puccini also kindly asks his correspondent to send him a new copy of a book which has been stolen to him, saying `..pregati mandarmeno uno a me perché mi fu portato via..´ Postmarked to the verso and addressed in Puccini´s hand. Wieland Wagner was the opera Director of the Bayreuth Festival after World War II, and is known for his innovative staging and scenery. Wagner was involved in the development of the V-2 rocket during wartime. Rare signed postcard photograph `Wieland Wagner´, the Liselotte Strelow image for the Bayreuth Festival showing Wagner in a close-up profile portrait pose. Widely renowned for the superlative quality of his singing and the brilliance of his acting;Lucien Fugere (1848-1935) French Baritone. His exceptionally long career allowed him to sing until his 80´s. The image shows Fugere seated, in a half length pose, in costume. Cycling. Laurent Fignon signed 7x5 colour postcard. Laurent Patrick Fignon was a French professional road bicycle racer who won the Tour de France in 1983 and 1984 and the Giro d'Italia in 1989. He is former FICP World No. 1 in 1989. He nearly captured the Tour de France for a third time in 1989 before being edged by Greg LeMond by 8 seconds, the closest margin ever to decide the Tour.
