[QUEENS]: A good original 5.5 x 3.5 postcard photograph, the unusual image showing three Queens ALEXANDRA OF DENMARK (1844-1925) Queen of the United Kingdom 1901-10, consort of King Edward VII, her sister MARIA FEODOROVNA (1847-1928) known as Princess Dagmar of Denmark. Danish Princess and Empress of Russia (1881-1894) as spouse of Emperor Alexander III. Her eldest son became the last Russian monarch, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and MARY OF TECK (1867-1953) Queen Consort of the United Kingdom 1910-36, wife of King George V. The image shows the Princess of Wales, and Duchess of York, future Queens, and the Dowager Empress Dagmar, turning round to look at the camera from their open carriage stopped at the steps of a palace, [Bernstorff, Denmark, 1898]. BAKER JOSEPHINE: (1906-1975) African-American Dancer and Singer. Vintage signed postcard photograph of Baker standing in a full-length pose. Photograph by Piaz Studio. Signed in bold, dark fountain pen ink with her name alone to the image. Together with an unsigned large 4to souvenir programme for the Folies Bergere 'en Super Folies', 1937, featuring a colour reproduction of a painting by Domergue of Baker in a three quarter length naked pose and with numerous other images of her to the inside pages. JANA LA: (1905-1940) Austro-German Dancer and Actress, rumoured to have had an affair with Joseph Goebbels. Scarce vintage signed sepia postcard photograph of La Jana in a half length pose holding a dog. Photograph by D'Ora for Atelier Benda of Vienna and published by Ross. Signed by La Jana in bold fountain pen ink with her name alone to the image. Signed photographs of La Jana are scarce as a result of her untimely death from pneumonia at the age of 35. VG
BOELCKE OSWALD: (1891-1916) German flying Ace of the World War One. Credited with 40 victories. Boelcke is widely considered the “Father of the German combat air Pilots”, an influential figure also known as the “Father of Air Fighting Tactics”. His innovative turn of mind codified his combat experiences into the first ever manual of fighter tactics distributed to an air force, the Dicta Boelcke. Boelcke was killed in an air crash collision. Rare and excellent signed 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photograph by Boelcke, the image showing the air fighter standing outdoors, in uniform, alongside Crown Prince Wilhelm (1882-1951) and two more Verdun decorated officers, Oberlieutenant von Brandis, the hero of Douaumont, and Kurt Rackow, the hero of the capture of Fort Vaux, all in uniform. The photograph bears the printed heading “The army Commander in chief in Verdun, with three officers decorated with the “Pour le Merite” medal”. Signed in bold black ink `O. GINSBERG ALLEN: (1926-1997) American Poet of the Beat Generation. A.L., unsigned, to the verso of a postcard featuring Ginsberg's poem Homework to the recto, n.p., 27th December 1989, to Istvan [Eorsi]. Ginsberg sends congratulations to Eorsi on their quadruple set of plays in Hungary, remarking 'What amazing East European days!', and further stating that he will visit Prague in April and May 1990 ('perhaps get my small notebook back from Police!') and that he will travel with the poet Nanao Sakaki, who also has friends in Prague, before travelling to Iceland and Korea in August. Ginsberg concludes his letter by writing 'Young brilliant mainland China P.H.D. student just 3 weeks out of China first time staying with me. I have office (3 rooms) outside of apartment'. HESSE HERMANN: (1877-1962) German-born Swiss Poet, Novelist and Painter. Nobel prize in Literature, 1946. Signed postcard photograph by Hesse, the Verlag front image depicting a profile close-up portrait pose of the German author. Signed `Thank you and greetings, H. Hesse´, in bold black fountain pen ink, to the verso. EX
HITLER ADOLF: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. A very good signed postcard photograph by Hitler, the Hoffmann from Munich image depicting the Fuhrer in a head and shoulders formal pose. Signed in bold black ink to the lower right corner of the image, also dated `Koburg, 19th October 1935´ to a largely clear area of the image. VG Coburg was the first German town to elect a Nazi mayor in 1929. The Rathaus (Townhall) in Coburg was the first official building in Germany to fly the Nazi flag in 1931 and where Hitler spoke before 10,000 people. Hitler visited Coburg on 19th October 1935 for the inauguration of the war memorial in the Schlossplatz Arcades.
TWAIN MARK: (1835-1910) American Writer. Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain being his pen name. Best known for his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). An excellent signed postcard photograph by Twain, the image showing the American author standing, in a profile-back three quarter length pose, wearing his top hat. RUNDSTEDT KARL VON: (1875-1953) German Wehrmacht field Marshal of Nazi Germany during WWII. A former Prussian Officer. Rundstedt participated as Commander in the invasion of Poland, also during the Battle of France and in the invasion of the Soviet Union. Rundstedt was aware of the various plots to depose Hitler, but refused to support them. After the war, he was charged with war crimes but did not face trial due to his age and poor health. A good signed postcard photograph, the Ross image depicting the Nazi field Marshal in a head and shoulders pose wearing his military uniform. Signed in bold black ink `Heil Hitler! Von Rundstedt´, also dated in his hand `1940´. VG
MULLER RENATE: (1906-1937) German Singer and Actress, courted by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party during the 1930's. Muller died in mysterious circumstances at the age of 31, possibly murdered by Gestapo officers. Vintage signed sepia postcard photograph of Muller standing in an elegant full length pose. Signed in fountain pen ink with her name alone to a light area of the image. Her signature is a little light in places. Scarce. VG
MARIE OF ROMANIA: (1875-1938) British Princess, the last Queen of Romania (1914-27) as wife of King Ferdinand I. Vintage signed postcard photograph of the Queen seated outdoors in a full length pose in a garden and holding bouquets of flowers in her hands. Signed ('Marie') in bold fountain pen ink to a clear area at the head of the image and dated 1926 in her hand. Together with a small selection of unsigned printed ephemera including an 8vo menu for a dinner in honour of Queen Marie, Princess Illeana and Prince Nicholas of Romania at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis, 17th November 1926, and a yellow silk 14.5 x 2.5 armband bearing the black printed words State Reception (some folds & minor faults) etc. G to generally VG, 4

HORTHY MIKLOS: (1868-1957) Regent of Hungary 1920-1944. A good vintage signed and inscribed sepia postcard photograph, the image depicting Horthy seated in a three quarter length pose wearing his uniform and medals. With the blind embossed credit stamp of a Budapest photography studio to the lower right corner of the image. Signed by Horthy in bold, dark fountain pen ink and inscribed to General Sherill. VGThe present photograph may have been presented to General Charles H. Sherrill (1867-1936) American Politician and Diplomat who served as United States Ambassador to Turkey 1933-36. In 1935 Sherrill, as a member of the International Olympic Committee, met twice with Adolf Hitler during preparations for the 1936 Olympic Games and upon the two men disagreeing over the participation of Jews Sherrill threatened Hitler with an American boycott.
BRANDT BILL: (1904-1983) German-born, British Photographer. Widely considered one of the most important British photographers of the 20th century. Signed postcard photograph `Bill Brandt´, signed twice to the front and verso, the image showing his work Espace Clos (“Enclosed Space”) (1952). Signed in bold black ink to the lower white front border, and to the blank verso. The first being a slightly light signature. VG
[ALIM KHAN MOHAMMED]: (1880-1944) Emir of Bukhara 1911-20, the last Emir of the Uzbek Manghit dynasty. A vintage unsigned postcard photograph of the Emir seated in a full length pose wearing traditional ceremonial attire, including a sash and medals, and holding a sword within a scabbard in one hand. With a small official oval purple ink stamp to the verso. The verso also features an A.L.S., Marusya, by an unidentified member of the Imperial Russian Court of Tsar Nicholas II in the Crimea, n.p., n.d., in Cyrillic, to their Aunt Sonya, sending New Years greetings and continuing 'Is not the Emir very nice here? Remember him in the People's House? We would all be very glad to see you in the spring in the Crimea. The Tsar's family has returned….' About EX
BULOW HANS VON: (1830-1894) German Conductor, Pianist & Composer. A.L.S., Hon. Pres., presumably in his capacity as Honorary President of the Raff Conservatory of Music, on one side of a plain postcard, n.p. (Cheltenham, Gloucestershire), n.d. (13th May 1884), to Max Schwartz in Frankfurt, in German. Bulow asks for his correspondent to have the Bianca Neri prospectus translated into English and printed and sent to Messrs. Dale & Forty in Cheltenham and Messrs. Lyon & Hall in Brighton, remarking that 'There are always customers in these areas' and further adding that he will meet Schwartz in Koblenz on Tuesday afternoon and suggest that he 'write down anything that would need to be discussed orally'. In a postscript Bulow asks for a publication to be sent to Paul Heyse in Munich. Hand addressed by Bulow to the verso. One minor vertical crease, only very slightly affecting the text, GPaul Heyse (1830-1914) German Writer & Translator, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1910.
[RUSSIAN GRAND DUCHESSES]: Olga Alexandrovna (1882-1960) Russian Grand Duchess, the youngest child of Tsar Alexander III of Russia and younger sister of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. A.L., unsigned, on two sides of a plain postcard, n.p. (Copenhagen), 14th March 1924, to Ferdinand Thormeyer ('Cher et bon Siocha'), in French. The Grand Duchess thanks her correspondent for his swift answer to her letter and continues to inform him that they are attending church twice a week ('each year it brings me more joy'), further discussing mutual acquaintances and the weather, 'It is still freezing every night and outside of the city everything is still covered in snow. The lighting and the sun are the only things that warm us and remind us of spring'; Elena Vladimirovna (1882-1957) Russian Grand Duchess, wife of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and both first cousins of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. A.L.S., Ellen, to one side of a colour picture postcard featuring an illustration of Easter flowers, n.p. (Greece), 23rd April 1940 ('Today is my Father's birthday - he would be 93!'), to Countess Maria Ignatiev. The Grand Duchess thanks her correspondent for their letter and good wishes and hopes that she will enjoy a quiet and peaceful Easter in spite of everything, continuing to refer to mutual acquaintances ('Yes, poor Adini! I have no direct news of her, but heard that so far, they were unmolested, but it must be so hard for them all up there!') and concluding 'We are all going through anxious times - one can only pray & put one's trust in God'. Send the rest.´; Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869) two pages, 8vo, 8th August 1848. Lamartine states `.. regarding Mr. Blanchet, distinguished painter and octogenarian residing at Chateaudun.. because of his age, his personal situation and his talent, he deserves all your attention..´; Pierre Loti (1850-1923) two pages, to a card, Rochefort, 25th December 1910, to Edmond Perrier. Loti states `In case I repeat my words or have not thank . yet, please forgive me on both cases.´ Accompanied by the original envelope. Henry de Montherlant (1896-1972) A.L.S., `Montherlant´, a good and large signature example, one page, 4to, Paris, 24th October 1934, in purple ink. On his return from Africa he finds an article published by Revue de Paris and thanks his correspondent; Eugène Sue (1804-1855) one page, 8vo, 21st June? 1843, to Jules Vincard. Sue states `Here are the books my dear Monsieur Vincard, I wish that you find what you are looking for. Diego Armando Maradona (1960-2020) colour signed 4 x 6 postcard by Maradona, the image depicting the Argentinean world champion in a full length action pose wearing his Napoli football strip and captain´s bracelet. Signed 'Maradona Diego' in bold blue ink across the image, to a light area, also adding his squad number '10' beneath his signature & Franz Beckenbauer (1945- ) colour signed 4 x 6 postcard by Beckenbauer, the image showing the German world champion, known as “The Kaiser”, in a head and shoulders pose wearing his national strip.
