A LARGE PUCE-GROUND 'SLEEPING TEACHER & MISCHIEVOUS BOYS' VASE, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC PERIODChina, 1850-1949. The baluster sides rising from a thick tall foot to a waisted neck with flared rim. The exterior is finely painted in bright enamels against a puce ground with a charming and humorous scene of an elderly scholar who has fallen asleep at his desk and the chaos ensuing around him. One boy is standing behind the scholar on his chair, removing his hat, while another holds up a rod with a small spider attached to it in an effort to frighten the poor teacher once he awakes. The base and interior glazed turquoise.Inscriptions: To one side, 'The children bring happiness and joy. They laugh and sing and celebrate the new year.'Provenance: Lyon & Turnbull, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, 8 January 2005, lot 109 (invoice not available, old label to interior). A Scottish private collection, acquired from the above, and thence by descent.Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear and minimal firing irregularities only. Must be considered extremely rare in this splendid state of preservation.Weight: c. 7.2 kg Dimensions: Height 45 cmFurther boys are seen idling about or playing games, while one particularly studious child sits at a desk much like his master's, holding a brush and showing a pensive expression, and another is leafing through a book from a pile on a stand in front of him. The back with a poetic inscription. The recessed base with an apocryphal iron-red gilt-ground four-character mark Qianlong nianzhi.Expert's note: Most porcelain vases painted with the 'boys' motif use this subject to reference a certain festivity, such as the New Year or the Dragon Boat Festival. The present lot, however, lacks any such allusions and instead offers a humorous and very lifelike scene of children running amok in the absence of an attentive guardian, and is thus much rarer than comparable examples.

1992 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon GES 300 Transmission: automaticMileage:103725The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagon, short for Geländewagen (cross-country vehicle), is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. The G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz vehicles in their history with a span of 32 years. It was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran and offered as a civilian version in 1979. The first major refinements were introduced in 1981, including an automatic transmission, air conditioning, an auxiliary fuel tank, protective headlamp grilles and a cable winch. Fuel injection became available in 1982 when the 230GE was introduced in Turin, along with more comfortable and supportive front seats, auxiliary heating, wider tyres and wheel arches. For 1985, differential locks, central door locking and a tachometer became standard. This example is very well presented in metallic Beryll Blue, (which is actually Green in colour), with cream cloth trim. This GES 300 G-Wagon was originally supplied to Guernsey, the supplied service book shows it was first registered there on 12th June 1992. Unusually well appointed, this GES 300 comes supplied from the factory with metallic paint, automatic transmission, alloy wheels, heated front seats, electric front windows and even air conditioning. The service book also shows over 18 stamps and the accompanying history file shows many more receipts for maintenance and servicing work carried out during the vendor's ownership, many by main Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Today the car presents very well; the interior is well kept for a 31 year old 'utility' car, but perhaps this is indicative of the beginning of the luxury SUV market with little use as compared to a traditional utilitarian vehicle. The paint is also in good condition with only the odd blemish to be expected on a vehicle of this age. Owned by the vendor for the past 24 years, this is a very well-kept example, is in great condition throughout and is reported to run and drive very well, only now reluctantly offered for sale, due to the arrival of a new car. Supplied with the UK V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until 1st March 2024, an impressive history file, past MoT certificates, original Becker radio, jack, toolkit and first aid kit. To find such an original, good condition example of this 4x4 legend, let alone with such a comprehensive history file and so well optioned, is rare to say the least and an opportunity not to be missed.
2005 Aston Martin Vantage V8 Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:78350The 2005 Aston Martin Vantage V8 is a two-door luxury sports car that was first introduced in 2005 as a successor to the DB7. It features a sleek and aerodynamic design, with a powerful V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. Under the bonnet, the Vantage V8 is powered by a 4.3 litre V8 engine that produces 380bhp and 302 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of around 175mph. The exterior of the Vantage V8 is characterised by its low, wide stance and classic Aston Martin design elements, including a signature front grille and distinctively shaped headlights. Overall, the 2005 Aston Martin Vantage V8 is a high-performance sports car that combines style, luxury, and power, making it a popular choice among car enthusiasts. This superb example is presented in metallic Obsidian black with a black leather interior. The interior features premium leather upholstery and modern amenities, including climate control, electric seats, parking sensors, a high-end audio system, and a satellite navigation system. It comes with its service book showing 14 services, mostly Aston Martin with the most recent service carried out in June 2022 at 75,000 miles. There are many invoices with details of the servicing and works carried out in the last few years and a Stratstone maintenance print from 2013-2018, spare key, remote fob and a full year MoT test certificate. Its powerful 4.3 litre V8 is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sounds fantastic. This is the most desirable of this model being a manual gearbox and it is rare to find one in this condition which is superb.
2005 MG ZT Estate Transmission: manualMileage:63444In 2001, three years after the launch of the Rover 75, and less than a year after the demerger of MG Rover from BMW, the MG ZT and MG ZT-T were launched. During the cars' development, the models were codenamed X10 and X11, for the saloon and estate versions, respectively. The basic shape and styling of the MG ZT remained the same as for the Rover 75 but with changes to the front bumper, now with an integrated grille, and detail alterations including colour coding of the chromed waistline, a new boot lid plinth, and different alloy wheels and tyres sizes. During the first few months of 2004, MG Rover facelifted the design of the ZT and ZT-T to a less retro look, at the same time as the Rover 75 received a facelift. This didn't feature much in the way of mechanical differences to the ZT, most changes were merely aesthetic. The main changes to the car included the replacement of the twin headlamps, with a new, clear single headlamp unit. Between 2003 and 2006 the top of the ZT range, and the rarest, was rear wheel drive and powered by the Ford 4601cc V8 engine giving 300bhp, 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.This rare MG ZT is best described as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'. A relatively unassuming vehicle from the outside, with the only visible feature being the large bore exhausts. However, start the engine and suddenly you become aware of the Ford Mustang 4.6 litre V8 under the bonnet. This is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox making this a true drivers car and one to really enjoy on the open road. Performance is put at 260bhp and 407NM of torque. The interior is trimmed in black leatherette and cloth seats with electric windows, electric mirrors and digital climate control with air conditioning. Showing just 63,444 miles on the odometer, the previous owner fitted a bespoke (and very expensive) stainless steel exhaust system with sports cats and central silencer box, coupled to an OE back-box, helping unleash a little more sound of the American dream. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until October 2023, together with the original book pack and a collection of invoices. Verard's skillful blending of text and illustration is superbly exampled in this book. The present edition was reprinted from Verard's exceptionally rare first edition of 1 July 1494, the date of which appears in the colophon of our volume one; the colophon of volume three gives Vérard's new address as Rue Neuve Notre Dame, which was active from 18th August, 1502 until September, 1504. A central figure of the Arthurian Grail cycle, the character of Lancelot first appeared in the twelfth century work of Chrétien de Troyes and quickly gained a prominence in Arthurian legend. Celebrating the knightly ideal as embodied in one man, the present text was composed in the 13th century and is the most substantial prose romance recounting Lancelot's chivalrous deeds. Malory used it as a source text for Morte Dartur, and the work has been repeatedly adapted by later books and media, perhaps most famously by Robert Bresson's film "Lancelot du Lac" and John Boorman's "Excalibur."Literature: Macfarlane 166 (& cf. 35); cf. The present work comes to the market with a distinguished provenance; from the collection of Dr Mohammed Farsi. Here the artist is addressing Operation Badr of 1973, an event that marked a turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict and had a lasting impact on the region and the world. At 2pm on October 6th 1973, General Hosni Mubarak commanded a surprise military operation under code name 'Badr' (Full Moon) to cross the Suez Canal and seize the Bar Lev Line of Israeli fortifications. This was launched in conjunction with a Syrian assault on the Golan Heights, this attack marked the start of the Yom Kippur War. The early stages of the attack were known as 'The Crossing'; the crossing of the Suez Canal was seen as an extraordinary feat of courage, tactics, and technical proficiency. President Anwar Sadat was no longer seen as the prevaricator president, but rather Batal Al Abour or the Hero of the Crossing who had healed Egypt's deep nationalist wounds that the Israelis inflicted in June 1967. The singular event was the well-spring of Sadat's legend and, like all myths, the evidence in support of the man's greatness is more apparent than real. The Arab forces were able to make significant gains in the early stages of the war. Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal and established a bridgehead on the east bank, while Syrian forces advanced into the Golan Heights. This was a significant success for the Arab forces, who had suffered humiliating defeats in previous wars against Israel. Despite the initial success of the Arab forces, Israel launched a counteroffensive that ultimately led to its victory in the war. The Israeli forces were able to push back the Arab forces and recapture the territory that had been lost in the early stages of the war.The event had significant diplomatic repercussions and led to an oil embargo against the United States and other countries that supported Israel, which had a major impact on the global economy. It also led to increased tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States, as the two superpowers supported opposite sides in the conflict. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Gifted directly from John Lennon and Yoko Ono to Cesar. According to Keith Badman's book 'The Beatles: After The Break-Up 1970-2000, (Omnibus Press, 1999); 'On Thursday 22nd April, John and Yoko flew from Madrid into Palma airport, Spain...' The following day, 'John and Yoko were taken into police custody and questioned regarding their alleged abduction of Yoko's seven-year-old daughter Kyoko, from a playground in Madrid. Kyoko's father, Anthony Cox had, somewhat ironically for John, been attending a meditation session by guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, at the Cala Murada, the Majorca home of the Maharishi for the last eighteen months. John and Yoko had taken the child and looked after her at their hotel, the Melia in Madrid. In court, Yoko claimed that she was awarded custody in the US when she and Cox were divorced. Following the hearing, the judge listens to evidence behind closed doors and rules that Kyoko should return to Cox... On Saturday 24 April John and Yoko left Palma en route to the Virgin Islands to obtain a custody order to fight this ruling.' Just two days later, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr accepted Paul McCartney's decision to leave The Beatles and confirmed via their lawyer that they would not appeal against it. John Lennon: A Rare, Uncorrected Proof Copy Of 'Power To The People The Political Thoughts Of John Lennon', 1972, New English Library, London, with green card covers, the front with text Uncorrected Proof Copy - Not For Sale, containing a compilation of quotes from interviews given by John and Yoko in 1970-71, 6in x 7in (15.2cm x 17.8cm) Footnotes: John had always been known as outspoken in his views but his increasingly-political stance was signalled by the campaign for peace he and Yoko mounted, most notably with the 'Bed-In' held in Amsterdam and then Montreal in 1969. The couple became involved in various causes, John released his song, Power To The People in March 1971 and, after moving to New York in September 1971, appeared in demonstrations and performed at benefit concerts. In February 1972, the couple's US visas expired and in early March, their temporary extensions were revoked. They were then given deportation orders, due to John's drug conviction in London in 1968 and a four-year battle to stay in the US began. The couple had many high-profile supporters, including John Lindsay, mayor of New York City, who wrote to the Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalisation in Washington, DC, asking for the deportation order to be dropped. He argued that the drug conviction was not the real reason behind the order, but that John and Yoko 'speak out with strong and critical voices on the major issues of the day.' ('Lennon', Ray Coleman, Pan Books, 2000) It has been suggested that the publication of this book, a compilation of John's thoughts and opinions expressed in interviews, was halted as it was perceived to have been a possible cause for jeopardising John's long fight for his US Green Card. He was eventually granted permanent residency in July 1976. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: • • Zero rated for VAT, no VAT will be added to the Hammer Price or the Buyer's Premium. It was at this historic venue that Townshend first smashed his guitar and where managers Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp first met the band. The High Numbers played regularly at this venue in north west London, the club having been initiated by harmonica player Cyril Davies, a pioneer of British R & B.
