A World War II Royal Observer Corps Sector or Colour Change Clock, by Elliot England, Serial No. 11576, date stamp 1939 to rear of movement, fusee movement all apparently correct, hardwood bezel and back box, back box stamped B26, stencil to left side door A1DESG, back box securing pegs present, painted dial in sector colours, 19ins diameter including bezel, with original pendulum and keyhttps://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/qa24dar9toifb73idwr2i/ABpqWV9p13uxlB1Ngg3cJJc?rlkey=gl3ardr5qr6s9rxrje8wiq8cn&st=mth5in3s&dl=0 The clock presents in excellent overall condition showing slight wear commensurate with age and usage. The dial appears to be in good condition showing no obvious sign of any restoration, likewise the glass and frame are bearing the original black paint and present in good condition. The hinge functions correctly with no sign of wear and the screws appear original. The outer wooden bezel shows no undue sign of previous damage or repair and shows the odd mark, again commensurate with age and usage and it appears to have had a coat of varnish but this is historic rather than recent. To the rear of the clock the woodwork presents again in honest original condition, the screws appear to be original, the hinges to the flaps at the side at the bottom appear original and in good order. Both flaps function correctly. The brass hanging tag is not original but is a replacement and has two new screw attached to it. The four wooden pegs that hold the cabinet appear to be in good condition and original. The cabinet itself again has original screws, no sign of any obvious previous repair or damage but may again historically have received a coat of varnish. The movement is honest and complete, does not appear to have any replacement parts, it winds and runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. We cannot warrant the originality of all parts but there is nothing glaringly obvious. Pendulum is present and is original. The key is non original but fits and functions correctly. Prospective bidders are advised to study all images closely prior to bidding. Overall a good honest example of a increasingly rare item.

Keith Vaughan (British, 1912-1977)Portrait of a Woman dated 'Aug 49.' (upper right); stamped with estate stamp 'K.V.' (on sheet verso)pencil on paper28.5 x 21.5cm (11 1/4 x 8 7/16in).Footnotes:ProvenanceThe Estate of the ArtistWith Anthony Hepworth, Bath, from whom acquired by the present owner, 2012Private Collection, U.K.At the end of the 1940s, Vaughan adopted a serrated, jagged outline for capturing the human form in life-classes and used it widely in his drawings. Portrait of a Woman shows Vaughan's interest in the boundary of a form, which he uses to suggest the solidity of an object. The present lot is a rare example of a female figure by the artist, and was probably made while he was teaching a life class at the Central School of Art. ‘Nelson’, a fine, rare and early Portrait Emile Jumeau bebe No.5, with pressed bisque head with large brown striated fixed glass eyes, shaded lid, brown feather brows, open/closed mouth with protruding top lip, painted pale pink with darker pink detail, shaded pierced ears, original blonde skin wig on cork pate, back of neck impressed 5, papier-mâché and wooden eight ball jointed body with fixed wrists, blue ink stamp on lower back, wearing a well made dark navy sailor’s suit with black silk scarf, matching cap embroidered ‘H.M.S. Nelson’, a white wool cloth shirt, socks, black leather shoes, a white cotton handkerchief embroidered ‘Nelson’, a pewter whistle on plaited string and gilt metal ship’s wheel compass on fob chain —26 ½in. (67.5cm.) high (minuscule eye chip to lower left eyelid, three white blemish spots around left eye, a slight flake from the inside edge of head rim, stringing needs tightening and very slight wear to joints) - sold with a reprinted photograph, transparency and Jpg of the original owner holding Nelson, the doll was given to Winifred (Winnie) Haslett when aged 9yrs (by family repute, circa 1884) for being a good girl at the dentist. She was born in 1875, the youngest daughter in a respected family in Belfast. Her father (John Haslett) along with her uncle (Sir James Haslett) founded a wholesale grocery business in Belfast (“J & J Haslett Limited”). Sir James Haslett went on to become Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1887. HMS Neslon was launched on 1814, but was laid up until 1854, then converted into a screw ship in the 1860s, before being given the Victoria, Australia as a training ship in the 1868. It seems unlikely that the doll was named after this actual slightly failed HMS Nelson, but probably after the man himself as a seafaring hero. It is believe that Winnie’s nanny made the uniform.
89cm curved blade retaining some original polish, some slight staining, British Liege inspector’s Acceptance stamp over S & K (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum) maker’s stamp, double broad arrow "Sold out of Stores" stamp on blade, the back edge stamped with Prussian Crown over FW over 50 (Friedrich Wilhelm IV, King of Prussia, issued 1850), contained in its heavy steel scabbard. This sword was originally produced as an experimental one and issued to only about one squadron of the Prussian Guard Hussar Regt, perhaps only about 160 or less of these swords were made. It was rejected, and sold to Britain as an emergency weapon for the Crimean War. See ‘National Army Museum Review’ 1982, pp 42-44, for an article with photos and a full description of this rare Pattern.

Gottfried Benn Zweiundzwanzig Gedichte (1936-1943). [Privatdruck] August 1943. - Seit 2014 in hessischem Privatbesitz. LITERATUR: Lohner/Zenner 1.90. - Raabe 24, 24. - Dedication copy to his friend F. W. Oelze. Only edition, extremely rare. The magazine was printed in a very small edition and only passed on to closest friends. The 1970 exhibition was celebrated for introducing European audiences to new voices of Egyptian art, and giving a fresh account of Egyptian visual culture which up to that point had only been represented by the ancient art and sculpture of the Pharaonic and the craft of the Islamic periods in European museums. Battle for Liberation is a surreal and symbolic representation of the struggles faced by Arab peoples and mankind in general for freedom. Painted during a politically charged period, in 1970, during Egypts War of Attrition, the work depicts figures engaged in a struggle to achieve peace and fragmented surreal depictions of conflict and battle such as a figure galloping into a voide on horseback. Hamed Nada was an integral member of the Contemporary Art Group founded by Hussein Youssef Amin (1904-1984) in 1944. The movement explored issues of social realism and surrealism. Like his mentor Youssef Amin, Nada was fascinated by the mural quality of children's drawings, which particularly impressed him while teaching art at primary school in the 1950s as proved by lack of perspective and the figure's stylisation in these works. From the mid-1950s onwards Nada to look at the work of Ragheb Ayad, from the first generation of Egyptian pioneer artists, who had reinterpreted pharaonic art in his portrayals of ordinary Egyptians. Also, for inspiration Nada looked to Nubian folk art and African primitive art.Since the 1970s, Hamed Nada's oeuvre gradually shifted from tragic themes of the struggles of working-class subjects to more joyful and energetic scenes. The colours became more vibrant and the works displayed far more movement and rhythm than before. Both artworks provide you with a unique glimpse into the inner workings of Nada's lucid imagination and realisation of liberalised Egyptian men and women. A nouveau twist on ancient Egyptian art, Nada incorporates depictions of animals in his works reminiscent of hieroglyphics on ancient tombs, temples and cartouches. His use of animals further commemorates pharaonic mythology, where they existed both in reality and the celestial world. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

A marketing team led by Allan Shiach, Frank Newlands, Hugh Mitcalfe, and Willie Phillips positioned The Macallan as a premium whisky, earning it the nickname "Cognac whisky." The brand gained wider appeal through imaginative and provocative ad campaigns. A major milestone was the launch of the "Fine & Rare" series and a collaboration with Lalique, which created special decanters for rare, aged editions like the 50- and 60-year-old whiskies. It was founded in 1881 by William Robertson (of Robertson & Baxter) in partnership with Greenlees Bros on a site with access to water from the River Margadale, which provided ideal conditions for whisky production. The name "Bunnahabhain" comes from the Gaelic word for "mouth of the river." Unlike other Islay distilleries that focus on single malts, Bunnahabhain's still was primarily used for blended whiskies, including Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark, and later Black Bottle. The distillery was closed between 1982 and 1984, but when it reopened, it launched its first official 12-year-old single malt. Bunnahabhain's distillate is smooth, malty, and has a maritime influence due to its proximity to the coast. Unlike most Islay distilleries, Bunnahabhain uses unsmoked malt for its regular single malt production, setting it apart from the peaty whiskies typical of the area. Since 2013, Bunnahabhain has been part of the Distell group. | Bottle description | Bunnahabhain 1976 is a single malt whisky that was bottled by independent distillery Murray McDavid as part of their prestigious Mission Cask Strength series. INVERLEVEN 1991 | Distilled: 1991 | Bottled: 2007 | ABV: 40% | Region: Lowlands | Country: Scotland | Type: Single malt Scotch whisky | Distillery description | Inverleven was a Scottish distillery located in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, founded in 1938. It was part of the larger Dumbarton Distillery complex, primarily focused on grain whisky, while Inverleven specialized in single malt whisky. This arrangement was common in the 20th century, with several distilleries built within larger grain whisky complexes. Established by Hiram Walker & Sons, Inverleven primarily produced whisky for blended brands like Ballantine's and Teacher's. Known for its light and smooth style, Inverleven's whisky was ideal for blending. Unfortunately, the distillery closed in 1991, coinciding with the shutdown of the parent Dumbarton Distillery. Interestingly, some of Inverleven's equipment, including the unique Lomond still-designed for greater flexibility in producing various whisky styles-was retained and relocated to the new Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay. Although Inverleven never established itself as an independent brand of single malt whisky, its bottlings have appeared from independent bottlers and in limited editions. Today, these bottles are highly prized by collectors and whisky connoisseurs for their historical significance and unique character. | Bottle description | Inverleven 1991 is a single malt whisky bottled by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Licensed Bottling series. GLENGLASSAUGH 1965 MISSION CASK STRENGTH SERIES 40 YEARS OLD | Distilled: 1965 | Stated age: 40 years old | ABV: 47,8% | Region: Highland | Country: Scotland | Type: Single malt Scotch whisky | Distillery description | Glenglassaugh is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands, near Portsoy on the coast of the Moray Firth. It was founded in 1874 by businessman James Moir, but its operation was interrupted several times. The distillery closed in 1907 due to a drop in demand for whisky and remained out of business until 1960 when it reopened as the market began to grow again. However, Glenglassaugh faced challenges; its distinctive spirit was difficult to blend, greatly limiting its use. This ultimately led to its closure in 1986, and many assumed that the distillery would remain closed permanently. In 2008, however, production surprisingly resumed. In 2013, Glenglassaugh was incorporated into the BenRiach Distillery Co. group, joining the BenRiach and Glendronach distilleries. Although there was a 22-year gap in the distillery's stock, good cask management has allowed it to combine older whiskies with modern production to launch new bottlings. Today, Glenglassaugh's distillate is known for its distinctive fruit and honey notes, with some of the production also being peaty. | Bottle description | Glenglassaugh 1965 is a single malt whisky bottled by independent distillery Murray McDavid as part of their prestigious Mission Cask Strength series. It stood as one of the oldest distilleries in the region, though it remained relatively small and lesser-known compared to some of Scotland's more prominent distilleries. Over its long history, Millburn underwent several reconstructions and upgrades. In 1921, it was acquired by Booth's Distillers, who operated it until 1937, when it became part of Distillers Company Limited (DCL), the predecessor of today's Diageo. Millburn was renowned for producing a rich, malty, and lightly smoked whisky, appreciated both as a single malt and as a component in blended whiskies. Like many smaller distilleries, it struggled during the whisky crisis of the 1980s and closed permanently in 1985. Although production has ceased, part of the original distillery buildings have been preserved and repurposed as a restaurant and hotel since 1990, a common fate for many former distilleries of the time. Millburn whisky still appears occasionally through independent bottlings, making it highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs. | Bottle description | Millburn 1974 31 Years Old is a single malt whisky bottled by independent bottler Cadenhead's as part of their Closed Distilleries series.
