A Ridgway porcelain Botanic pattern part dessert service, circa 1830, each piece handpainted with a variety of botanic studies, the cavetto with moulded moustache rims and oval vignettes with floral sprays all against a royal blue ground heightened with gilding, comprising 2 square dishes, 2 oval dishes, 2 shell shaped dishes and 9 plates. Pattern No. 611. Plate diameter 21.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One square dish has two small chips to the enamel decoration to the centre of the yellow flower and just below. The body is in good order throughout with no signs of any chips, cracks or restorations. The other square dish has a 8.5 cm long fine hairline crack running from the rim to just inside the foot rim, if on a clock face this would be located at just before 3 o'clock. There is a very tiny chip to a small purple flower in the bottom right hand corner and also a 1 cm Y shape scratch. Other than that there appear to be no chips, cracks or restorations. Both shell shaped dish bodies are in good order and free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations. One dish has a small scratch to the enamel on a floral vignette. The other dish has small scratches to two of the floral vignettes, however both the main floral decorations to the centre appear to be undamaged. Both dishes ring out nicely when lightly tapped. There are two larger oval dishes, one of which has a rim to foot rim crack which continues within the foot rim a further 7 cm, if on a clock face located just below 3 o'clock. There is a small pinhead size chip to the enamel on the main floral bud but other than that the vignettes all appear to be in good order and free from any further faults. The remainder of the body to include the rim appear to be free of chips and restorations. The second oval dish has a 5 mm size firing crack to the rim, if on a clock face located at 5 o'clock. There are three notable chips to the green leaf decoration in the centre. The floral vignettes all appear to be free from faults. There are no obvious post production chips, cracks or restorations visible, however it gives out a very off tune ring when tapped, but having a powerful light and a jewellers loupe to look around the body we cannot see any obvious fracture. There are nine plates, all ring out nicely when lightly tapped. Two plates have small scratches to the central decoration, one of which is very minimal. One plate has a 2 cm fine scratch across one leaf leading into blue flowers. Otherwise the remaining plates all appear to be free from any enamel losses.
