The stock has the usual knocks, marks and dents typical of a military rifle that has seen use, there are no splits or repairs however there is a chip to the toe of the butt. The rifle serial number to the receiver is 241786 whereas the bolt has number 6401 stamped. There are no other serial numbers. The leather sling is perishing in places.

The bore is filthy and needs a good scrub. The rifling is worn around the throat. Whilst there is no obvious signs of pitting this cannot be ruled out. the rest metal work has a fair amount of wear and the bluing has faded to a grey brown patina. The stock has some vice marks to the forend as well as some file marks around the front trigger screw. There are dents scratches and marks throughout but no splits.

The stock has been varnished, this is perhaps a later refinish as the rifle serial number stamping to the forend is very faint and hard to read, there is no size stamping to the butt however it measures 12.5inches from the end of the rubber plate to the wrist joint. The action works correctly with a strong spring. There is no sign of a cancelled serial number on the magazine and the mag appears to be original to the rifle.

The bore has some wear to the edges of the rifling and very slight frosting on some lands towards the muzzle however a strong rifling pattern remains and there are no obvious faults. The carbine has had an extension to the barrel to allow it to comply with USA law on barrel lengths. The action appears to function correctly. The serial number to the rifle is 79028 and 028 is repeated one the bolt, magazine plate and nose cap. The bluing has some wear and is fading in several places, there is the odd very light corrosion spot found scattered across the rifle. There are no splits or repairs to the stock however there are some small dents and scratches but nothing defacing. The leather sling is perishing in several places. The bayonet is in very good condition generally with only small signs of use. There is some light corrosion to the end of the scabbard and also a small mark on the ricasso from a finger print.

There are some very light patches of surface frosting that can be seen in some of the lands and some of the grooves. The inside of the breech has some powder residue which looks like nitro. This whole are and the bore would benefit from a good clean. The action works correctly with strong spring. The rear sight functions as it should. The action has possibly been reblued to match the rest of the gun as the stampings to the lock are not as crisp as the stampings found on the rest of the rifle. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are some knocks and dents but nothing defacing. There is an oil stain to the butt at the top of the butt plate join.

There is a crack to the trigger guard and whilst it is still holding, some work on this would be good before the rifle is used in the field. Some of the magazines have tape repairs to make the fed lips grip the rounds tighter and not spring out.

A fair amount of material would need to be removed to bring these back to spotless bores.The wall thicknesses are not known but there very thick for a shotgun with this once being a rifle. The chokes are not known. The blacking to the barrels is worn throughout and fading to plum/grey.The barrels are on face and tight on the action with no wobble with the forend removed. The actions function correctly with snap caps. The finish to the actions and rest of the metalwork matches that of the barrels.The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are occasional scratches and dents from use but nothing defacing. The edges of the forend have some small chips. The chequering is worn overall but is all still present. The barrels weigh1486grams, the action 1277g and the forend 138g.
